I’m apologizing for an earlier rating of 4. I complained that the Tv viewing was less than stellar. My wife said I’m a curmudgeon, and didn’t travel 10,000 to watch tv. Sooo….. I’m giving it a rating of 5. Honestly, one of the coolest hotels I’ve ever stayed in, and the nicest people I’ve ever dealt with! (Kind of a Thailand thing!) Buuutt….TV, not so much! 🤪

We absolutely adored staying at this beautiful hotel. It definitely evokes another era and we felt royally pampered. We didn't come across anything to rival it in Chiang Mai. Our room was luxurious, with a choice of pillows, and the perfume from the tree overhanging the balcony intoxicating. We enjoyed the choice of breakfasts which were all well cooked and presented. At the other end of the day we took advantage of "happy hour" in the library, which was most welcome after a day packing in sightseeing and as a reviver before dinner. We didn't get the opportunity to eat in the evening at Ping Nakara, but there is a wonderful bistro just next door which overlooks the River Ping where the choice and quality is excellent. We were grateful to be treated to a couple of local trips out in the old Mercedes which was an unexpected indulgence. All members of staff were exceptional: warm, welcoming and friendly. Final thanks to Ping Nakara for sending my coat on to a hotel in Bangkok. I left it behind in the confusion of loading our luggage into the taxi but they posted it to me at no expense. I would highly recommend this wonderful hotel and would have no hesitation in visiting again in the future.

Beautiful hotel in a convenient location. Happy hours every day from 5-6 I believe. Friendly and helpful staff. Lovely pool. It was always super quiet. For smokers, there’s a smoking area right outside. Nice little balcony. Just a pleasant experience.

We enjoyed our stay at Ping Nakara. While the location from the old town/restaurant area is probably a bit more than walking distance, we could easily manage with taxis/tuc-tucs. Rooms were very comfortable and nicely decorated. There also is a nice pool in the garden. We very much appreciated the breakfast and the bar in the evening. If you directly book with the hotel, they offer complimentary airport transfer - also with their Mercedes oldtimer. Recommended !

While this hotel structurally is beautiful, it didn’t feel like a five star hotel. The rooms are completely run down, with cracks in the walls. Our room initially started to leak from the ceiling after it rained, and I basically had to beg to be moved to a different room. There wasn’t an initiative to move us to a different room, which you’d expect from a five star hotel. We were finally moved to a different room but felt like the front desk lady was very irritated with us. And she was not very hospitable. Furthermore, anytime we’d enter the hotel and that same lady never addressed us or said hi. There also seems to be a large language barrier and didn’t feel like overall communication was good. We sent some laundry to housekeeping and called to follow up on it the next day. One of the front desk ladies said it was ready and they’ll bring it over. We waited and waited for it but couldn’t any longer due to a tour reservation. We give the front desk a call back, to which they tell us the laundry won’t be ready until the evening. There’s so much missing here! I wouldn’t recommend this to someone expecting five star service.

I very much enjoyed my stay at the Ping Nakara Boutique hotel. The standout for me was the fleet of vintage Mercedes cars. I do recommend you add airport transfers in one of these lovely cars. It’s only a few dollars more than a taxi but much more enjoyable. The hotel was also kind enough to drive me into the city on a few occasions, although reception seemed hesitant to do so and encouraged me to get a taxi instead. Whilst I did tip the driver, I would have been happy to pay for these trips. I would have also been happy to pay for the use of one of these cars for the entire day, with the driver, to tour around local attractions. The rooms are very comfortable and very spacious with a balcony. My room even had a large bath. The complimentary in room snacks and sweets are a very nice touch. The breakfast offered a good selection and the staff on duty at breakfast each morning were lovely and very welcoming. Sitting by the pool was lovely, quiet and peaceful. The hotel is not in the centre of Chiang Mai but their are a number of restaurants close to the hotel including Nakara Jardin which is behind the hotel, overlooking the lake. This restaurant offered a lovely afternoon tea and many French options. Nearby is also, L’opera French Bakery which is nice for lunch as well as Anantara resort which is nice for dinner.

The Ping Nakara is a beautiful, boutique hotel very conveniently located in the heart of Chiang Mai. The building itself oozes bundles of charm and, even with age and Chiang Mai’s humid climate, remains in very good shape thanks to responsible management, efficient maintenance and exceptional housekeeping. The staff and the service it provides is quite outstanding. The gentleman at the front desk, the restaurant staff, the bell hop/driver, the bartender, the ladies at the spa and the incredibly hardworking cleaning/housekeeping team are a force to be reckoned with and it is they who add the zing to the Ping. Thank you all for a most wonderful stay!

This unique boutique hotel was lovely in terms of layout, style and elegance. We enjoyed the pool and the breakfast included was most adequate. The spa was extraordinarily great value for money, and I would highly recommend having a massage and facial, as it was truly a divine experience. The rooms were well appointed, and look just like the photos online. As it was very hot at the time of year we were there, the air con was greatly welcomed. The big minus for the hotel was the reception experience. On arrival there was general confusion about our booking, the ladies were in the backroom the whole time, and it was difficult to get input on what to do, or where to go. There just seemed constant confusion and a lack of energy at reception overall. There was a lack of local knowledge or guidance, and I expected some really great insights on local restaurants or adventures such as cooking schools etc, but it was not forthcoming. Just a minor thought, but the hotel clothing of the staff also missed a beat. Everyone was in tired looking grey polo shirts. A minor point, but for such a lovely hotel, I thought there could be something more fitting/traditional for the team to wear. Finally the old mercedes was a hoot. Loved being driven to the airport in it. Added to the adventure.

The Ping Nakara is a really lovely hotel in a great location. Our room was beautiful, very comfortable with a nice balcony. It had an authentic colonial charm in both the rooms and the public rooms. The pool was lovely and the little library bar was charming. Breakfast was nice and the staff would happily make you a cooked breakfast and you also had a choice of a buffet as well. The staff were really kind and were always happy to help. We enjoyed our stay in Chiang Mai, and the hotels location close to some great restaurants the Ping River and the night markets was perfect. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

The moment you walk into this hotel, you feel the peaceful vibe and it’s elegance. The service from all the staff was superb. Beds are firm but they will happily put on a very comfortable duvet for you. The rooms are very large, very comfortable. Everything was very clean. We would happily stay here again.
