The Ping Nakara is a really lovely hotel in a great location. Our room was beautiful, very comfortable with a nice balcony. It had an authentic colonial charm in both the rooms and the public rooms. The pool was lovely and the little library bar was charming. Breakfast was nice and the staff would happily make you a cooked breakfast and you also had a choice of a buffet as well. The staff were really kind and were always happy to help. We enjoyed our stay in Chiang Mai, and the hotels location close to some great restaurants the Ping River and the night markets was perfect. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

The moment you walk into this hotel, you feel the peaceful vibe and it’s elegance. The service from all the staff was superb. Beds are firm but they will happily put on a very comfortable duvet for you. The rooms are very large, very comfortable. Everything was very clean. We would happily stay here again.

Superb hidden gem. Beautiful character rooms with generous verandahs and large bathrooms Lovely, quaint hidden bar behind a fake bookshelf. Incredible staff who are all warm, welcoming, friendly, and go above and beyond to help guests. Nearly the Jardine tea room is a beautiful oasis for lunch or afternoon tea, where surrounded by greenery, you can watch the river drift by. . Great for couples as so peaceful.

From pick up from the airport to drop off at the airport our stay was excellent! We organized airport collection and they picked us in the an old 1960’s Mercedes which was a joy! Our room was spacious to say the least, very colonial style, in keeping with the look of the hotel! The complimentary snacks and soft drinks were a delight to have! The staff were very friendly and attentive at all times! On checking out early we were surprised to meet the guy taking us to the airport outside our room waiting for us and our luggage! Breakfast was excellent and cooked fresh to order The cocktail hour from 5-6 (buy one get one free) in the hidden bar in the library was great! If we were going to the gate entrance of the old town, if the guys at the entrance had time they offered to drop us off, if we didn’t feel like walking! The hotel is not far from the night market, within walking distance, and in fairness the old town is to! Would we go back…..yes we would!!

The staff were great! Especially loved Mr. Noom :) The best chicken satay I have ever eaten at their restaurant for lunch. The bartender in "the library" knows how to make a good martini. The entire place was absolutely lovely! And the beds were incredibly comfortable. Highly recommend staying here.

We stayed at the Ping Nakara for 4 nights in February. Our experience was as follows: The hotel is situated in a nice, quiet area close to the river. It is only a short walk to the night bazaar and is fairly close to the old city. The hotel building is really quite beautiful. The communal areas around the lobby and the library bar, as well as outdoor area around the pool are really nicely maintained. The rooms: We started off in a room in the third floor. It was very large, nice decor. Well appointed. A little bit shabby/ wear and tear but overall good. Unfortunately we woke after the first night to a dreadful smell of drain/sewage filling the room. After speaking to reception we went out for the day. When we returned the smell was almost gone. The following morning we woke up to the smell again, except this time it was truly eye-watering. Again we spoke to reception and requested to change room, which they gladly accommodated. They did say that 2 housekeepers had found there to be no smell when they checked. Trust me when I tell you - it was dire. We moved to another room on the third floor which was different but again well proportioned with a pool facing balcony. Again overall nice room but some real wear and tear needing investment (water marks on ceiling, flaking grouting on tiles, shower head fell off whilst showering). You can get a lot for your money in Chiang Mai, so when you pay high prices, you expect things like this not to happen. The breakfast: very good. Lovely to sit out by the pool. Fresh and well presented food. Great eggs, breads, croissants and fruit. Of note there is no restaurant. This was not a problem for us as we enjoyed going out every evening. The bar: twice we had drinks at the library bar. Cocktails were superb and the happy hour was great value. The facilities: obviously this is a small hotel and you are so near the sights of Chiang Mai it doesn’t really need to provide anything beyond accommodation and breakfast. They have a classic Mercedes which you can request (at cost) for transfer to/from the airport. We didn’t use this service. They veranda area is a nice place to relax. Service: Always polite. Compared to some of the places we’ve stayed in a Thailand, perhaps a little frosty at times in conversation. However, to be fair they provided a lovely gesture to us of a bottle of Prosecco as we were celebrating our honeymoon. Thank you it was greatly appreciated. Overall: Lovely building, large rooms. Some in need of update and maintenance (especially for the hotel price…). Good breakfast and bar. Excellent location. Service overall good. Value for money compared to other hotels in the area - hmm….

Lovely colonial style three-storey boutique hotel with pool and spa, situated within easy reach of the old city of Chiang Mai and even closer to the River Ping and its river cruises and the charming Nakara Jardin next door to the hotel for food and drinks in a beautiful riverside garden. The top floor room we had at Ping Nakara was spacious and well furnished and the king-sized bed and pillows were exceptionally comfortable. Our room had a private balcony with table and chairs overlooking the pool, the hotel interior and a variety of trees. It would be hard to find fault with this hotel and its staff. We were very well looked after and will definitely be recommending it to our family and friends.

This is a stunning hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. With beautiful colonial style decor, it has a relaxed ambiance and the spa treatment we had was amazing. I was going to the Night Market by myself and they gave me a lift in the hotel Mercedes! They also gave us a little gift when we checked out and every day, we had complimentary goodies to eat! Highly recommended

Ping Nakara does colonial style without the spectre of wallowing in a dubious imperial past. It has a special character which reminded us of a refined and unique take offered by the Iroha in Phnom Penh. The architecture, public areas and room suites ooze design style and understated comfort. Service, breakfast, and housekeeping were all first class. A great base to explore all that Chiang Mai and the surrounding area has to offer. We will definitely be back.
