Come on inside the house and rest here in a warm private place in the heart of Chiang Mai. We call it a house, because we love a safe home like atmosphere where things are simply comfortable, kind and mindful that we look after our guests as a part of our family. We are the only place in the old city of Chiang Mai that has 14 swimming pools and all the private pools are temperature controlled

It's a beautiful property, though the best thing about it may be the staff. They are very well trained, with an attention to detail that is exemplary. I stayed in a Waterfall Suite and would very happily return if I went back to Chiang Mai. The breakfast was first class, too.

If you have a chance to stay at The Inside House I highly recommend you do so. The accommodations and service as are as good as anywhere I've stayed in the world. We stayed in the Waterfall Pool Suite 1 which was an amazing room with our own outdoor private pool, an outdoor shower, outdoor bathtub, indoor shower, complimentary mini bar and snacks (two beers provided per day and no wine or liquor) and an extremely comfortable bed. The staff is eager to take care of any of your needs you have and they remembered us every time we approached the reception area. When you leave the property they ask that you leave the room key with the front desk. It seems anytime you leave they check your room and tidy anything that may be out of place. Upon your return they welcome you and hand you your room key without having to ask who you are or what room you are in. I think the hotel has something like 31 rooms and I think this allows the staff to provide excellent service because they have fewer guests to tend to than a larger hotel. We booked through the hotel and had a complimentary dinner and airport car service provided. All of the meals we ate at the restaurant were fantastic and the afternoon tea is great as well. We only had it one day because we were often out exploring the Old City which you can do by foot because of the hotels great location. I can't say enough great things about the hotel and I'm not sure when we'll be back in Chiang Mai but The Inside House may be enough of a reason for us to make the 24+ hour travel back to this great city.

From the moment we entered this wonderful boutique hotel - pure perfection.
Staff, Service, Room, Food, all were far above other fine hotels we have stayed at.
Food and beverages in the room were available at no additional cost, breakfast was beautifully presented and served, afternoon tea was elegant!

I stressed a lot about where to stay in Chiang Mai and ultimately, the photos of this hotel and their breakfast made me book it.

Pros: Beautifully decorated, great breakfast, afternoon tea, free mini bar

Cons: Location, although in the old town, it's far from the main attractions, shower floods the bathroom, prompts unethical elephant tourism (see below)

Another con that needs to be mentioned near the beginning of this review is that they appear to support elephant camps that do not treat the elephants ethically. In their tv menu, they advertise different activities you can book in the area and one big attraction in Thailand is to see elephants. However, instead of partnering with an ethical elephant sanctuary, where you DO NOT ride elephants, this hotel has partnered with an elephant camp that promotes elephant rides and circus tricks. These camps are known to not treat elephants ethically, and it's just a shame that this hotel is advertising this sort of unethical tourism.

OK, with that said, the hotel is a beautiful property. We arrived early (11am) and could not check in until the afternoon so we left our bags and explored some temples in the area. Upon check in, we were greeted with welcome drinks and cold towels.

Our room was beautifully decorated and there were some delicious treats left for us to enjoy. Also, the mini bar is free and refilled daily!

The bed was comfortable but fairly small for a place that bills itself as a luxury hotel. Our room did not have a pool but it did have a balcony which overlooked the courtyard and because of our room location (209) there was a lot of noise from people in the courtyard.

The shower does not drain fast and it floods the rest of the bathroom. The toilet is enclosed in a glass area but there is not enough space between the toilet and the door so the enclosure is pointless as you have to leave the glass door open to use it.

The breakfast buffet and menu selections provided by this hotel are wonderful and, honestly, the best part about this hotel. The afternoon tea is a really nice touch as well.

The location within Chiang Mai isn't the best. It's around a 10-ish minute walk to the main temples and a 15-ish minute walk to the Sunday night market. It's about a 20-30 minute walk to chinatown. Most things to do are a ways away and we should have booked a hotel more central or on the east side of the city near the river.

We enjoyed our stay, but will not stay here again. The bathroom flooding, location and support of unethical elephant camps are too of a deal to me to justify staying here again. The food was really great, the building was beautiful and the staff were very friendly. Despite the negatives, we really enjoyed our stay, but would not stay again.

Sawasdee ka Mrs. Helle Hemnes, Warmest greetings from The Inside House! Thank you very much for taking the time to share your comments with us. We are glad you enjoyed your stay with our food and our friendly family member. We feel very dissapointed that we were not able to provide you with the same heartfelt and professional service that most of our guests experienced during their stay. I would like to offer you my sincere apologies for falling short of your expectations for the location, shower drain and elephant programs. Please kindly note that by providing elephant programs information for guests does not mean supporting unethical elephant camps. All elephant camps have dedicated their knowledge to help, save and care elephant’s life. Also they have well organized to manage elephant’s food supply and medical supporting. There are 3 kinds of elephant activities in Chiang Mai - Elephant at work: You will enjoy a variety of fabulous shows of elephants who love to show off their skills such as parade show, demonstration ridings show, musician show, sleeping show, dragging show, football show, painting show, massage show, picking show and darting show. Also you will experience riding in a safe howdah on the back of an elephant. - Elephant training: You will learn and interact with elephants as what an owner would do daily, during which time you are trained to approach your elephant correctly, know the elephant's temperament, feed and check its health, learn about and take care of your own elephant, bathe and brush it in the river, learn how to ride on its neck and communicate through different spoken commands. You will get a chance to bareback riding to visit forest, waterfalls or local temples. - Elephant sanctuary: You will get interaction with elephants by feeding, checking their health, take them walk for exercise, making vitamin ball, observing elephants mud spa and bathing but no riding. Thus, there are 2 ways to ride an elephant: Howdah and bareback. Most people forget that, historically, elephants have been carrying large loads of people and goods for thousands of years. In other words, it’s not unusual for elephants to transport a lot of weight. In fact, according to John Hutchinson of the Royal Veterinary College in London, an elephant’s skeleton accounts for close to 20% of its body weight, which is double that of many mammals. This more robust frame combined with straight limbs enables them to resist gravity’s downward force and carry a larger load. Most people who argue that riding is unethical are really disputing the treatment and training methods of captive elephants in general. And the sad fact is, many tour operators that offer elephants rides do not treat the animals humanely but that’s not true for all of them. Again the family members and I regret that we could not meet you expectations but hope we have the opportunity to welcome you again to our house in the future. Yours sincerely, Pooh, Guest Service Manager and The Inside House Family

The Inside House is a beautiful small boutique hotel in the heart of old Chiang Mai. The attention to detail and comfort by the staff is wonderful and the whole facility is quite lovely. Great breakfast was included in our nightly rate and we also had several evening meals at the restaurant which were very good. Our room was extremely comfortable and we took advantage of the beautiful marble tiled swimming pool several times each day. The front desk staff recommended and booked several day trips for us including an excursion to an elephant sanctuary which was a great experience. I unreservedly recommend The Inside House, in fact we booked for 5 nights and extended it to 7. The staff are outstanding, very friendly, professional and thoughtful. We hope to return!

Hidden in the center of Chiangmai, The inside house is a newly open boutique hotel that we think everyone should come and stay at least once for a memorable experience in the North of Thailand.

The hotel is conveniently located just 10 mins walk to Wat Phra Singh and many other attractions just less than 20 mins driving away.

The interior is uniquely stunning decorated in Thai Lanna colonial style in majestic white color. In the middle of open air inside there is a sacred “Pho” trees to make you feel traveling back through time to centuries ago when Lanna became an independent kingdom.

“Nothing but impressive” could be a word popping up in your minds when you step into the glass pool room, a uniquely designed to make you wonder and enjoy your experience.

For a couple one can swim in the glass pool while the other enjoy afternoon tea, seems like aquarium in your room!!! Rooms are slightly compact but still feel spacious.

Floating breakfast is a must to make your experience even better given it is a breakfast to “see through” by you buddy or couple.

Pool is majestic white blended with all Lanna style walkway.

It is simply once-in-a-lifetime experience at The inside house.

From check in until the moment we departed for the airport in the house Mercedes, our two days at the Inside House exceeded our expectations.

Check in was swift and friendly and as we were a little early, our room wasn't quite ready and we were escorted to the patio to have afternoon tea (included in rate) which was very good and enhanced by the outside location.

We had a Bodhi Pool Suite which was clean, light and spacious and as the name of the room suggests, our own pool on the balcony.

Treats and a bottle of bubbles were waiting for us in the room and I was delighted that they use one of my favourite L'occitane amenities. There was a shower cubicle and a bath tub in the good sized bathroom and the bed was large and very comfortable.
There was even a packaged nail clipper provided - something I have never seen provided in a hotel!

All the staff we engaged with were helpful and friendly and we both thought the location of the 'House' was ideal for walking in and around the city. The Wat Phra Singh temple is only a few hundred yards from the house and is certainly worth a visit.

Our rate included breakfast and one complimentary dinner which were both very good and I found eating breakfast sitting near the Bodhi Tree was a very pleasant experience.

The only slight niggle was the noisy traffic and soi dogs at night that could impact on light sleepers, however, ear plugs are provided and this was no fault of the establishment.

We were only here for two nights and I could have stayed longer if our itinerary wasnt so congested and I wouldn't hesitate booking here again.

An excellent stay!

The Inside House is not directly located by the hustle and bustle of the main tourist area but is only a short walk away and well worth the slight inconvenience for the peaceful location, hotel quality and amazing staff. From the moment we arrived, the staff was welcoming and friendly. The check in process took a few extra minutes but they want to make sure every detail is covered, especially if you book any tours or airport transfers with them.

The rooms are beautifully furnished, and no detail is overlooked regarding amenities. Most hotels have hairdryers, but I have never stayed in one that also had a hair flat iron for use as well. Our rooms both had a garden tub available although we did not have an opportunity to use it as the weather was much too hot.

All meals are served in the small restaurant. We booked directly with the hotel and had an included promotion of breakfast and afternoon tea daily plus one dinner. Breakfast was ordered from a menu with many excellent choices, the tea provided an ample amount of food and the set menu for dinner was very good. The restaurant staff was always attentive and made sure to answer any questions.

The rooms and grounds were lovely but what set The Inside House apart for us was the staff. Everyone was always smiling and welcoming no matter the time of day or weather. To single out any one person for extraordinary service would be impossible as everyone we dealt with was exceptional.

As someone who mostly stays in larger 5 -star chain hotels, we were looking for a bit more of a unique experience during our stay in Chiang Mai, but were a bit hesitant to stay in a boutique hotel. The Inside House was one of the most spectacular and special hotel experiences we have ever had. We pulled up on one of the main roads in the old town, that was quite busy which made me nervous, but then the second you walk into the main lobby you feel like you stepped into a fairytale! Every detail of The Inside House was immaculate! The rooms are stunning and bright, the staff were so kind an helpful and they hosted the cutest new year's eve cocktail reception for all the guests with delicious food and drinks! The room also came with free drinks in the fridge and every afternoon you get a service of tea and treats included. So yummy! If you are a lover of beautiful things (not to mention the most instagrammable hotel in the city) you have to stay here during your time in Chiang Mai. The ONLY thing I would recommend to the hotel staff is to please invest in blackout blinds. The blinds were quite thin so the sun came streaming in early and it was a bit too bright in the room for us personally. Thank you Inside House for such a magical stay!

Just WOW!

Everything about our four night stay at The Inside House was magnificent.
Upon arrival the staff were really friendly and helpful, we were shown around the hotel and got a great run down about the room and what was included in our package.
We had one of the King Rooms with Balcony and it was just such a tranquil space with a real air of colonial splendour.

Booking direct meant we got some perks thrown in, including 4 items of laundry per day (really useful), the fabulous afternoon tea and dinner at the hotel for one night.

The dining room was a real treat. A great breakfast menu with some interesting choices. The Pad Thai Scramble was a really great breakfast, a real twist on the classic Pad Thai.
Afternoon Tea was a real surprise with a great selection of patisserie and cakes. We looked forward to that each day.

It was great to be able to sit on the balcony and the high living garden wall was a really clever way of hiding what was probably an uninspiring view.

Location is great being inside the old town itself and it's just a 5/10 minute walk to the main temple and walking market street.

Hi! As a senior without any children, I actually prefer non-kid-friendly hotels 😳 but I will say that there were a lot of families with young children. The pool area is decent and the dining room staff bent over backwards to accomodate families. It isn’t like a resort with lots of family-related activites, and in Chiang Mai, location doesn’t really matter as it is so wide-spread. We could always find a TukTuk or Taxi. Hope this helps!
