We booked our first in Thailand at Awana house. Turned out to be a great choice. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Room was spacious and clean. Wi-Fi was also good. The next morning they were happy to make us breakfast even though it was a little late due to our jet lag. The pool was great as we adjusted to the heat. The sitting area was cool and laid back and they served amazing smoothies at a very reasonable price. After checking out we realised we’d left a shirt in the wardrobe. A quick email and they found the shirt and kept it till we returned to chiang Mai. They even washed it. Highly recommended.
The owner of this place couldn't have done more for us. Always cheerful, checking we are okay and very happy to help and advise. Our room was very comfortable and our kids enjoyed the pool. There is a covered roof top area to read and relax which we made good use of.
If you want to experience some real Thai character , just a stone throw from Tha Phae Gate , then this is the place for you . A perfect setting , adorned with thai art , comfortable loungers to read a book and a small pool to top it off. A very friendly and knowledgeable guest house owner who couldn't do enough for us , also refusing to take any extra payment as we were checking out very late. Will definitely return on my next visit to Chiang Mai.
Awana is a little gem, in a very quiet street by close to the northern gate. They stand out for their friendly and k owledgable staff,. You enter via an amazing little jungle-like am well kept garden. Big room, well kept, and a place with a lot of character
Our stay at Awana was the best. Waew and Bernard were the kindest most helpful people. The pool is a little bit cold, but the warmth of the people adjusts for that. The room is are nice and clean, the balcony doesn't offer much of a view. The rooftop terras is a nice place to chill, with big beds and a lot of tranquility. We just loved our stay.
Lovely quaint hotel clean goid food and excellent staff ... May was very very helpful. Very close to tapae gate and lots of nice stuff. Would highly recommend very good value for money. We will be back.
We recently stayed here for 13 nights. We found all the staff to be very helpful and courteous always answering any questions. The rooftop patio is a nice way to while away a few hours during the heat of the day. We found our room sufficient for our needs and the location of the hotel to be near everything we went to experience.
This was our second trip to Chiang Mai and we were very excited. We booked 3 nights at the Awana house as our first stay based on reviews and did some other travel and returned to Chiang Mai to stay at a different property. In all our Thailand and Vietnam travels this was our worst stay. Mediocre beds and rooms, the rooms were clean and did provide bottled water in glass bottles when requested. I was not expecting a tour guide but the staff was painfully unhelpful with questions regarding the area so we could get our bearings. We did not eat there much since anytime we would try get food or drink the staff looked extremely put out. Breakfast was not included which is fine but with our experience at other properties this was the only one breakfast was not included and the cost here was higher. The hospitality at the Awana House gets an extremely low score from us. The location is great and the restaurants on the street were all amazing. If we hadn’t prepaid I would have switched to the property next door. They were so friendly and helpful when we went to eat there and their food was fabulous. The pool was more of a cold dunk since it does not see the sun which is nice to cool off after a hot day but don’t expect to spend swim time in it. I hope this review helps a family decide where to stay with so many wonderful properties and people in Chiang Mai I feel the Awana House is running on their write in Lonely Planet. Maybe once they gave travelers the Northern Thai hospitality that blew me away at other places we stayed but now they don’t really care anymore they book up regardless.…
Such a great budget place to stay, right next to the main 'gate' but as quiet as can be. Charming entrance / reception /bar area, helpful staff, large clean room, 1 min walk from wherever you need to be. Just lovely!
We were a little doubtful that they was the guest house/hotel for us when we first walked in. It seemed hidden and dark with high steps to mount. But Awanahouse grew on us. We had a nice large room with balcony on the 3rd floor, daily maid service, a variety of breakfasts (not included in cost) of which the muesli with yogurt and fresh fruit was tasty and very filling. Staff was always friendly and willing to make suggestions and give directions. No one ever swam in the pool during our stay but we were here during mild winter. There’s a self-serve laundromat to the left and the end of the block. Wash was 20 Baht but we had to buy a packet of soap. We hung our wash dry on the balcony—another reason not to be the cheaper rooms without balcony. The roof is a nice place to chill-out and not very busy. Tuk-Tuk drivers know little English so directing them to Thae Pae Gate was all we needed to do to get us back at night. Awandhouse won us over; very good price and good location.…
