Despite majority of Chiang Mai hostels being dead quiet, Spicy's was still close to fully booked with a really social atmosphere. The staff are incredible at making everyone feel welcome, especially Andrew who goes out of his way to make sure a people are having a good time. They arrange nightly activities which brings everyone together and i was extremely... More

Beds are uncomfortable, but it's doesn't really matter something cute is going on every night that allows you to have a great time with everyone in the hostel. You talk with people at breakfast and it's easy to make friends. It's location I don't think is a major problem I just walked to the old city but you can take... More

We stayed here on a 2 month backpacking trip around Southeast Asia and it was great! Good location and tons of backpackers stay here so it's a great place to meet people and find people to adventure with and hear about things to do. They have wifi, breakfast, clean facilities, and a balcony! Would definitely stay here again

I have never stayed in such a homely hostel. The owners are the kindest family with the sweetest golden retriever ever 🤗and the Western staff are fantastic too. Very helpful with booking excursions and advice on what's worth doing or not. The beds are comfortable, the bathrooms are clean and well maintained and the hostel is so safe. There's a... More

In Chiang Mai, you'll be hard pressed to find a better hostel than Spicythai. The beds were comfortable, communal showers worked well, and the people working/staying there were all so nice. All day long there will be people watching movies in the common area and most (if not all) nights there will be drinking games played at the big table.... More

Well the best part about SpicyThai is the way you connect with other travelers. The common area brings everyone together. Also the whiteboard that they use to organize activities is a life saver. The hostel is clean, comfy and it feels like home. I would definitely recommend it to anyone staying in Chiang Mai.

overall, im not going to recommend this hostel. This is due to one important factor- location. Alarm bells rang early on, when picked up from the coach station, the red taxi dumped me in the city and told me the place was '5 minutes that way'. Sensing this was a lie, i hailed a tuk tuk who didnt seem to... More

The hostel is very sociable; every evening staff would put up on the white board what the idea was for that night for everyone to see - kick boxing, night market, night out ... Etc. Movies on all day long in common area and a small breakfast (toast, banana, coffee etc provided). Down sides were the building really, could do... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In 2006, we created our Spicy Hostel that has since hosted thousands of very happy travelers... Do not miss your opportunity to experience the spiciness in Chiang Mai.Beginning in September 2006, we have shown this country what a real backpackers hostel is and how to run a great hostel. Rated No.2 in Asia 2007 and No.1 in Thailand 2008, Spicythai has really brought the backpackers hostel to life in Thailand. A group of young locals with lots of travel experiences and warm hearts have created each Spicy and have brought them to the top of the game in a very short time. Six years of success prove very well that we have been doing the right thing. Now Spicythai is in its new location: an even bigger and more beautiful house in a more convenient location, close to the Old City.Special Features at Spicythai;Apart from normal stuff that you will get at budget hostels such as free toiletries, a book swap, reference books, bed linens, parking, city maps, tour information, etc, we offer more including:- Strong and firm handmade bunk beds (no funny noises to annoy you while sleep)- AC in all dorms (we live in the city so AC is a good investment for climate and pollution)- Free coffee and tea with toast, butter and jams- Kitchen with free spices and oil- Original honesty system mini-bar with 24/7 easy access- Big-screen TV & home theater system with cable TV and an incredible collection of movies and TV series- Communal computers with high speed internet until midnight and 24/7 free WiFi- Free use of storage closet ... more   less
