We live in Chiang Mai. This week is our anniversary. Instead of traveling south we chose a “staycation” and decided on Viang Luang as we had watched it being built over the last few years. What a beautiful hotel! Every detail is perfect! The rooms, the halls, the stairs, the lobby, walkways with artistic touches, even the water troughs ( sewer drains troughs) are covered with metal flowery motifs. The pool is crystal clear and peaceful. Breakfast is exactly as you order it. They speak good English and if you take the time to say exactly what you want for eggs and bacon etc. you will get what you ordered. All staff are friendly and kind. Their umbrellas, we used for walking as this is the rainy season, are very large. The hotel is located near many places to eat and many important wats ( Buddhist temples) and located in walking distance of many historical sites. We appreciate fine workmanship. The persons who designed and built and supervised the construction of this hotel did so with love. It is so obvious. The gardens with flowering plants and many orchid species, the textiles swaying in the breeze from pillar to pillar, the umbrellas, cabinets with collectibles, fine China cups in the room, the minibar amenities, the gleaming white grout in the bathroom, the woven and teak lounge chairs on the balcony, the woodwork outside and inside, the vanished teak floors, all are lovely and Thai style of a by- gone era of luxury. We are so happy we stayed in our own city for our anniversary! If you live in Thailand, consider a staycation in Chiang Mai!

The location of this hotel is what makes our stay worthwhile. We spent our weekends in old city walking around and visiting the magnificent monasteries. The Sunday Night Market is so close to this hotel and this enabled us to spend the most of our time walking around, eating, shopping and doing massage. The staff are helpful and the rooms are nice. The weather is not hot enough for us to use the pool but the design is very nice. The breakfast does not come with a huge range of choice, but, don't miss out the fish congee! It is the best tasted fist congee I've ever had!

We moved to this place without a booking from a place we had previously booked across the street because the bed over there had been terribly uncomfortable and the room too small with no windows. Immediately, upon inquiry at the front desk, the vibe here was great. Then we saw the room. For the same nightly rate we'd had across the way without breakfast (and windows) we had a palatial room with huge bed, top quality linens, great furniture, huge bathroom and a complimentary fruit basket. Really can't say enough about this place. SO GOOD!!! For $100/night for a couple with breakfast, this place really delivers the goods! Will definitely be back and probably will never stay anywhere else in Chiang Mai! Special mention goes to the breakfast. I see some people claiming it's boring on here. Yes, if you came half way around the world to eat bacon, eggs and toast... I suppose it's about as boring as you are! The varied asian options were all of great quality, lots of healthy options, and some over-the-top items added in for that luxurious touch. (perfectly stir-fried asparagus and shrimp... for breakfast?! boring??!!! come on!! So good!)

Ihan hyvä aamiainen ,ihana sänky ja tyyny. Rauhallinen ilmapiiri. Hyvä sijainti ihanassa vanhassa kaupungissa. Kiinalaisia tietenkin liikaa, mutta onneksi olivat eri siivessä! Olimme vain kaksi yötä !! Enemmänkin olisi viihtynyt....
