my second review about Banilah : each time I come to Chiang Mai I stay there. my home away from home. good price, bicycles included, great location in Santitham area ( north west of the old city, 10 min to the old city 10 min to Nimman) and the nicest staff always so helpful and friendly.
A good hostel completely runt by woman. The location is just outside the old city centre 10 minutes by bike (which they provide for free). The staff is very kind and helpful as well, they show the secrets of the neighborhood regarding good food. The reception is not 24/7 open but with every question the will help (getting a cab etc.) Regarding the rooms they are clean however the bathroom is on the balcony (which is private so you're not literally stand outside), the room is good. In the common area (reception) you can drink coffee or something else (they not serving breakfast) and there are walking a few cats on a lease ( but they doesn't bother you at all). There is also a opportunity to watch movies. I would recommend this place, for the lovely staff and the location…
As a young solo traveller I was worrying a little about where to stay in a new city. Hostel? Hotel? Guesthouse? I settled on banilah, and overall I am glad I did. I had a private room, and the staff was incredibly nice and helpful! They really went above and beyond to help out their guests and I really appreciated that. That being said as a young solo traveller, if you are looking for a place to meet others, or somewhere convenient to other hostels/travelers the location is a little outside the city center. However, it's quiet, it's authentic, and has a really cute donut and coffee shop nearby and a food market. The staff really try their best to orient you to the city and area too, and they let you borrow bikes! Overall I had a pretty wonderful experience there.
I stayed in this hotel for a couple of nights. The lady at the reception was really very helpful and gave lots of tips and explained how to get around the city. She also booked day trips and called for taxis. The room was big and clean but the my bathroom was at the balcony which didn't bother me much. The hotel is around 45 mins from the centre.
My first time staying at Banilah was last January/February/March. It's so fantastic -- at this price point -- that I recommend it in my article on Chiang Mai for Bicycling Magazine. I'm a travel writer so I've stayed at hundreds of properties and Banilah has a very special place in my memory and heart. The staff are not just pleasant, they are efficient and responsive, and the room is a great value for the price. I came back again this year and have stayed about 6 weeks. I will come back next year. And I've NEVER opted to stay at a value hotel vs. AirBnB/short term rental. But Banilah is THAT good.
