this place seems pretty nice..they've got a cafe and chill music, and the staff was friendly and helpful, which is why I give them a 2 rating.. BUT while laying in the bed, I got bit! at first, thought mosquitoes so got under the blanket to shield myself...wrong!! I got bit several more times! it was BEDBUGS! I caught and... More

We stayed in a budget double room. On arrival the staff were really friendly and welcoming which is always bliss after a long day travelling. The entry to hotel is really quirky and the decor really funky. The room itself is budget but has a bed air con and a fan so can't complain. The only annoying thing was the... More

My biggest fear came true. I woke up in the middle of the night with a huge roach crawling up my arm! I know it's Bangkok, but why was it in a guesthouse where the rooms should be "clean". Just unlucky for me I guess. Location was good, friendly staff. Wifi was poor & the locks on the door were... More

The dorm had no lock on the door,no windows,no ladder for top bunks,no lockers no real mattress, a thin plastic pad instead,no house keeping.no hospitality,no credit cards ever accepted.the private rooms were not much better. If you have unruly children that scream all night and run around like wild Indians, this is the place for you.The manager tried to charge me... We spent two nights here and found it to be pretty good. As it was our first time in Bangkok it was nice to have the restaurant downstairs with decent food although we soon learned that you can get much cheaper food elsewhere but this seems to be the norm with guesthouses. Great ambiance in the restaurant. Room was quiet... More

As you arrive at Shanti lodge the first impressions are amazing; Really beautiful tree cascading branches down the front of the restaurant/building; Pretty very authentically decorated restaurant/bar area, Greeted by staff and they seemed friendly. Shown up to room... room very rundown and not particularly clean although the air conditioning made up in part for this- worked very well, as... More

We spent one night in Shanti Lodge after 2 weeks in Laos, and i don't understand negative comments. Nice place, near center and river (one pier is verry close, perfect to go to famous monuments), peaceful, lot of plants and flowers, good food...

The three of us stayed in a 3 person room (3x single beds) and a shower + loo included for one night. The room was fine; we had air conditioning and the bed was comfortable. There was a lock on the door so we felt comfortable leaving our stuff in there when we were out and about in Bangkok. The... More

Fabulous place for those who like a nice balance of western comfort and vagabond vibes. A good location for seeing the city and ot a party place like KaoSan road, although KaoSan is a walkable distance away. The Management is great and the clientele seem happy. I will visit Shanti again.

Just sort of all around blah. It amazed me how tasteless the food was I mean it's THAILAND fer crying out loud. Ended up at the coffee stand across the street for breakfast etc coz it took forever to get served. I stayed at the recommendation of a friend and then he informed me later he meant the Tavee Guesthouse... More

Staying in Dusit

Neighborhood Profile
Dusit
When wandering around the Dusit Palace grounds, you'd almost forget you're still in a Southeast-Asian city. The Renaissance-style buildings and leafy gardens wouldn't be out of place in an European capital, and the serenity here is in stark contrast with the chaotic city life outside of its complex walls. Dusit is one of Bangkok's oldest districts, and while the rest of Bangkok is modernising at a rapid pace, Dusit seems to have stood the test of time. Come here to find family businesses in traditional shophouses, small-scale local markets and streets unfazed by modern city life.
