I stayed in the river view villa for 3 nights during my Bangkok visit. The villa had everything I needed, it was a generous size with a separate lounge & study area, all beautifully appointed. The view of the busy Chao Phraya river with the passing barges, plentiful boats and ferries was a delight to watch. The famous Temple of... More

We stayed one night in this hotel. This hotel is really beautiful. It is authentic and well located in the city. I would definitely recommend it. The room is huge and you have a large terrace. The breakfast is really good and can be served on the terrace as well. The staff speaks a very good English and are very... More

I have used tripadvisor to plan trips for years, but our magical time at the Chakrabongse Villas has finally inspired me to write a review of my own. We could not have found a more perfect place to spend the final 3 days of a 2 week trip to SE Asia. Atom, the manager, and her staff were incredibly warm,... More

My friend and I stayed here for a few nights at the beginning of March. The villas are absolutely stunning with a beautiful pool and lovely dining area on the river. All the staff are polite, friendly and super helpful. Mr Ohm and Ms Atom were always there when we needed them, we especially appreciated the late check in and... More

It's not often you get to stay in a real palace. And the Traditional Thai teak sala hotel rooms on its palace grounds are unique and remarkable. Our room fronted the Chao Praya river, and candidly, our private lanai/patio was double the size of most hotel rooms these days. Not cheap, but an experience. And perfect for that very very special... We stayed for the last night of our Asia tour and wished we had booked for longer. The Villa is a beautiful place in lush tropical gardens on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. While the hotel has a fantastic location, near many of the temples, and nice grounds, I was expecting way more based on other reviews and the price. The flight my husband and I were taking to Bangkok was delayed twice, so after arriving late in the evening, we were informed that we would be charged an additional THB 1,000 per... More

Thank you for taking the time to inform us of your recent negative experience at Chakrabongse Villas Bangkok. It is disappointing to read that despite having won your confidence to book a boutique hotel instead of a high-end international hotel chain, our service on this last experience was so far below your expectations that you have decided not to recommend.... This was built in the 19th century by a Thai prince. It's on a busy street and right next to the river. Once you get behind the gates, it's your own private palace. Pool, garden, decks overlooking the river. I think there are only about 9 rooms. It's pricey, but worth it. Our dinner was about a 7-course meal (prix-fixe),... More

"Shhhhhh" you might want to keep this gem of an inn a secret. As a frequent traveler to Thailand you understand that overnighting in Bangkok is often necessary due to midnight arrivals and 1am departures. We were SO ready to get out of the airport hotels. Set on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, tucked into Old Bangkok, this... More

Staying in Banglamphu

Neighborhood Profile
Banglamphu
While you’ll see skyscrapers in most parts of Bangkok, it’s the gilded roofs of ancient pagodas that adorn the skyline of Banglamphu, the city’s historical and most touristic district. Hordes of tourists flock to this area to tick quite a few must-see attractions off their to-do list, with the Grand Palace being the most spectacular of them all. Banglamphu is also home to Bangkok’s infamous tourist ghetto, centered around Khao San Road. Visit at night to feast on road-side pad thai, cheap beers and if you’re up for it, some dancing fueled by buckets of Thai whiskey.
