We only stayed here for one night before we went off to the islands, but the room was lovely, very clean, great welcome, very handy for Khao San Road, for its price we were very happy. Breakfast was delicious. Staff were more than happy to give advice on everything. Recommended

We stayed for two nights at this fantastic hotel and there's no doubt that next time in Bangkok we will stay nowhere else but this place. Everything about this cute little hotel was just spot on - great location (Khaosan road 40 baht by tuktuk/10 minutes walk), friendly and helpful staff, nice breakfast, wifi, great shower and reasonable prices. Lovely boutique hotel, well designed. Rooms are very comfortable, friendly relaxed atmosphere. Staff very friendly throughout and at end of our stay they sort out taxi for us and help with baggage. Nice breakfast with the variety choices. Satisfied and above expectations Thank you!

Had great stay at Villa Phra Sumen, all the staff were really friendly, polite and are helpful. Security is excellent and is obviously a high priority of the management which is a comforting thought. Rooms are strictly “No Smoking” so if you are a smoker this may not be the place for you, but if you’re not it’s a bonus,... More

This hotel surprised my friends and I. The lobby area is gorgeous and its great to just lie back on the bean bags and relax out of the sun. It's about a 10 minute walk from Koh San Road but when inside, you feel like you're in a peaceful, quiet little haven. The staff are great and the room was... More

My partner and I spent 4 nights here at the end of July and had a most relaxing break. The hotel is in the old part of Bangkok and has a free shuttle service to the Royal Palace which we took advantage of. The hotel is very comfortable and if you like to eat a lot for breakfast you won't... More

We stayed here our first two nights in Bangkok. The hotel was clean, staff were friendly, and there was great security! Breakfast is included, and food was very descent. Would definitely stay here again. Tip: Ask for a room that faces the courtyard and NOT the street

We found this hotel while browsing and couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised. Fantastic location, perfect and helpful staff and even free bikes to rent. The best part was a surprising game we got to play while checking in, which landed us a free upgrade from a regular room to a suite!! When we visit Bangkok again, we will stay... More

Really good little hotel. It was our first time in Bangkok & from the moment we arrived everything was great. Upon getting out of the taxi the concierge at the front of the hotel (who is there 24hrs a day to flag a taxi for you or be generally helpful) carried our bags through to reception & check in was... Very nice small hotel with awesome friendly staff. Rooms are very clean, nicely decorated. Shower is great. Price performance it's just great. Breakfast is good (continental or thai) and sufficient. Is in the middle of Bangkok old city. 10 minute walk from great sites like khao son road or the chao prao river. And many temples. Con: our airco performed... More

Staying in Banglamphu

Neighborhood Profile
Banglamphu
While you’ll see skyscrapers in most parts of Bangkok, it’s the gilded roofs of ancient pagodas that adorn the skyline of Banglamphu, the city’s historical and most touristic district. Hordes of tourists flock to this area to tick quite a few must-see attractions off their to-do list, with the Grand Palace being the most spectacular of them all. Banglamphu is also home to Bangkok’s infamous tourist ghetto, centered around Khao San Road. Visit at night to feast on road-side pad thai, cheap beers and if you’re up for it, some dancing fueled by buckets of Thai whiskey.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Villa Phra Sumen sits in the heart of historic Bangkok, located on Phra Sumen Road which ran along the ancient city's walls and connected Phra Sumen and Maha Kan Forts over two hundred years ago. Among the 14 forts that were built to protect the city from enemy attacks in the late 17th century, Phra Sumen and Maha Kan Forts are the only ones that still stand today. Villa Phra Sumen is also centered among Rattankosin Island's most popular highlights, including the Emerald Buddha, Wat Pho Temple, The Temple of Dawn, Bawon Niwet Wihan Temple, Suthat Thepwararm Temple, Brahmin Temple, The Golden Mount, Loha Prasat (Metal Palace), The Grand Palace, Ananda Samakhom Throne Hall, Vimanmeak Mansion, The Giant Swing, Democracy Monument and even some charming communities which still go about their ways in the traditional Thai way. The urban boutique resort comprises 2 converted and restored historic buildings, offering 29 guest suites combining both contemporary and classic Thai styles. Towards the back of the property is a two story building situated along Rop Khrung Canal built of wood and concrete. Each suite offers high ceilings, wooden floor, antique furniture and windows opening onto the canal, from where guests can see the traditional lifestyle of people living in the area. The front 4-story building offers tastefully and functionally finished rooms, but with private balconies overlooking the internal courtyard. Villa Phra Sumen is perfectly suited to guests seeking serenity and privacy in an environment which conjures of the atmosphere of hundreds of years ago. Our dedicated staff looks forward to welcoming you to a pleasant stay in old Bangkok and at Villa Phra Sumen. ... more   less
