First time staying in Bangkok. Villa Phra Sumen is a 10 minute walk from lively Khao San Road and about 20-25mins from the Grand Palace (traffic included). The hotel itself is a lovely little gem with fantastic breakfast. The staff are so helpful and welcoming especially Grace, who met us when we arrived and P, who remembered our breakfast order...

Very nice and clean hotel, I felt very safe and staff was amazing, very helpful and kind. I will deffinitely stay here again if I'll be back in Bangkok. Not too many choices for breakfast, but that didn't bothered us. Geep was amazing and patient with us, all in all a great hotel with friendly staff.

My friend and I stayed at the Villa Phra Sumen Bangkok for 5 days in early May 2017. It truly is a quiet oasis from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. The hotel is 2 blocks walking distance from Khao San Road and within a 15 mins tuk tuk ride to all the major attractions. In addition, Thip Samai, which...

We stayed here for 3 nights when arriving in Thailand. It’s non-descript from the outside but has a simple resort feel when you step inside to the open lobby with comfortable chairs, hammock and pleasant greenery. The hotel had a bit of a rustic feel but with modern decor. The glass elevator is a nice touch as you can see...

I've just completed a 3 night stay at Villa Phra Sumen. The location is fabulously close to many main attractions and shopping areas. I was able to walk to Wat Po from here and back and also found some great street shopping and eating within easy walking distance. The staff here have a pretty good level of English which meant...

Stayed here for a couple nights when we first arrived in thailand and it was perfect. The reception is opened 24h, so it was no problem that we arrived in the middle of the night. They also sent us instructions how to find a reliable taxi at the airport as well as directions in thai for the driver prior to...

This is the ultimate in unique. Perfectly presented. Haven in the middle of the hustle and bustle of old Bangkok. We traveled with a toddler. It was perfect for him too. All the big sights are close at hand.

Staying in Banglamphu

Neighborhood Profile
Banglamphu
While you’ll see skyscrapers in most parts of Bangkok, it’s the gilded roofs of ancient pagodas that adorn the skyline of Banglamphu, the city’s historical and most touristic district. Hordes of tourists flock to this area to tick quite a few must-see attractions off their to-do list, with the Grand Palace being the most spectacular of them all. Banglamphu is also home to Bangkok’s infamous tourist ghetto, centered around Khao San Road. Visit at night to feast on road-side pad thai, cheap beers and if you’re up for it, some dancing fueled by buckets of Thai whiskey.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Villa Phra Sumen sits in the heart of historic Bangkok, located on Phra Sumen Road which ran along the ancient city's walls and connected Phra Sumen and Maha Kan Forts over two hundred years ago. Among the 14 forts that were built to protect the city from enemy attacks in the late 17th century, Phra Sumen and Maha Kan Forts are the only ones that still stand today. Villa Phra Sumen is also centered among Rattankosin Island's most popular highlights, including the Emerald Buddha, Wat Pho Temple, The Temple of Dawn, Bawon Niwet Wihan Temple, Suthat Thepwararm Temple, Brahmin Temple, The Golden Mount, Loha Prasat (Metal Palace), The Grand Palace, Ananda Samakhom Throne Hall, Vimanmeak Mansion, The Giant Swing, Democracy Monument and even some charming communities which still go about their ways in the traditional Thai way. The urban boutique resort comprises 2 converted and restored historic buildings, offering 29 guest suites combining both contemporary and classic Thai styles. Towards the back of the property is a two story building situated along Rop Khrung Canal built of wood and concrete. Each suite offers high ceilings, wooden floor, antique furniture and windows opening onto the canal, from where guests can see the traditional lifestyle of people living in the area. The front 4-story building offers tastefully and functionally finished rooms, but with private balconies overlooking the internal courtyard. Villa Phra Sumen is perfectly suited to guests seeking serenity and privacy in an environment which conjures of the atmosphere of hundreds of years ago. Our dedicated staff looks forward to welcoming you to a pleasant stay in old Bangkok and at Villa Phra Sumen. ... more   less
