Villa Phra Sumen sits in the heart of historic Bangkok, located on Phra Sumen Road which ran along the ancient city's walls and connected Phra Sumen and Maha Kan Forts over two hundred years ago. Among the 14 forts that were built to protect the city from enemy attacks in the late 17th century, Phra Sumen and Maha Kan Forts are the only ones that still stand today. Villa Phra Sumen is also centered among Rattankosin Island's most popular highlights, including the Emerald Buddha, Wat Pho Temple, The Temple of Dawn, Bawon Niwet Wihan Temple, Suthat Thepwararm Temple, Brahmin Temple, The Golden Mount, Loha Prasat (Metal Palace), The Grand Palace, Ananda Samakhom Throne Hall, Vimanmeak Mansion, The Giant Swing, Democracy Monument and even some charming communities which still go about their ways in the traditional Thai way. The urban boutique resort comprises 2 converted and restored historic buildings, offering 29 guest suites combining both contemporary and classic Thai styles. Towards the back of the property is a two story building situated along Rop Khrung Canal built of wood and concrete. Each suite offers high ceilings, wooden floor, antique furniture and windows opening onto the canal, from where guests can see the traditional lifestyle of people living in the area. The front 4-story building offers tastefully and functionally finished rooms, but with private balconies overlooking the internal courtyard. Villa Phra Sumen is perfectly suited to guests seeking serenity and privacy in an environment which conjures of the atmosphere of hundreds of years ago. Our dedicated staff looks forward to welcoming you to a pleasant stay in old Bangkok and at Villa Phra Sumen.

The Villa Bangkok Hotel emerges as a serene Thai sanctuary, with its pool earning accolades for offering a tranquil oasis to guests. While the hotel's ambiance is celebrated for its cool, Thai-inspired elegance, a few guests have noted a somewhat gloomy feel in certain areas. The spacious rooms with Thai décor are generally well-received, although higher floors are recommended for better vistas and some cleanliness issues have been called out. The hotel staff is consistently commended for their friendly and helpful attitude, enhancing guest experiences. Its coveted location is a stone's throw from cultural landmarks, despite some accessibility concerns. Opinions on value vary, with some seeing it as a bargain with great amenities, while others view the pricing as steep.

Nice, trendy, minimalist hotel which looks like it has been recently refurbished. The hotel uses a mixture of bare concrete, bare plaster and recycled wood, and whilst not normally to my taste, it has been done very well and really works. The fixtures and fitting were quite new and looked to be good quality and room had a nice bathroom. Bed and pillow were pretty hard, but this is common in Thailand I find.

Room had a nice balcony but be careful, especially if you had a few drinks, as it is much lower than room with a steep step down. Pool was decent size based on size of hotel, clean and water was reasonably warm. the sun loungers were also new and good quality. They have washing machines and driers for a small fee near the pool area which is handy.

Whilst food prices a little higher than average for the area the food was very good, portion size small by western standards but pretty much normal for Thailand. The staff were also ways very friendly and helpful and entry to main hotel is access controlled via room key, giving good level of security. Hotel is only about 10 minutes walk from Khoa san Road, so not badly placed and backs onto canal, which is a nice place to walk.

We really enjoyed our stay over Christmas 2019 in this perfect located hotel. The room was spacious and clean, the pool had a good size in a wonderful patio and was perfect for cooling down after a day out in the city. We had once breakfast which was good. But one of the best things is the location, as you have plenty of very good food places (both breakfast/ coffee and original Thai) but also the palace and important temples in walking distances.

The only downside was that our night sleep got disturbed every night (!) of our 5 day stay. We were not sure if it was because of the room location to the canal neighborhood or because of noisy people in the house. The stuff also was not helpful solving this problem...

Beautiful antique furniture in each room makes it feel unique and personal. The pool is with a lovely tree filed court yard to give shade. We could walk to Khao San rd but the hotel is in a quiet area . Will stay there again.

We have been here four years ago and loved this place. You entered the hotel and had this quiet garden and a lovely place to sit and enjoy the canal behind the hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful. How surprised where we when we arrived this time. No garden anymore but a pool with young men in it drinking their beer. No canal view anymore but more rooms. The staff was nice but not friendly. Most of the time on their cell phones ignoring the guests. When we returned to our room we recognized that no one was in our room to make the beds or clean the bathroom. It was hard to sleep because you heard every word from your neighbors and the doors closed so loud that you woke up every time someone returned to their room.
This used to be a really nice hotel. No it’s just a hotel. Nothing special and not worth coming back.

We had a room with a pool view which was nice because we wanted to get fresh air and leave the door open in the morning. The staff was professional and we appreciated the housekeeping staff making up our room daily. A great location and there are good coffee shops and a nice momo restaurant I recommend to try it!

I had a pleasant stay in the hotel. Rooms are big enough, some of them facing the street so it can get noisy. Bathroom is clean and well equiped with shower stuff. Internet works fine altough I stayed one night in the bottom floor room next to the pool and the signal there was quite bad.

Villa Bangkok (aka Villa Phra Sumen), has all of the friendly and relaxed Thai charm completely lacking in the impersonal mega resorts.

Likewise charming it's location in Old Bangkok which surrounds us with a setting providing a strong sense of Thai cultural antiquity in the buildings, shops and sidestreets where one is taken back in time.

It is within walking distance of the Chao Phraya River where it is highly recommended that whenever posdible, one takes the river taxis and boats, instead of the congested streets, to navigate around Bangkok.

The staff is very polite and always most pleasing. I speak/read/write Thai and they were a truw pleasure, most accomodating.

The rooms were quintessential Thai in appointment with beautiful wooden floors and uniquely Thai style decorative touches.

I will always return to Villa Bangkok in Old Bangkok City whenever I stay in Bangkok.

This was an excellent place to stay, in a good location in Bangkok. I strongly recommend paying a little more for a room overlooking the garden, as there is no noise from traffic and below is a calm oasis of trees and a swimming pool.
The room is a good size and the air conditioning (much needed) is excellent. Breakfast can be bought down on the ground floor of the building. The staff are very friendly.

Nice hotel very clean and the staff very pleasant and very helpful. Good location and a great price. Pool area is really nice. The hotel is quite querky, with an industrial looking to the bedrooms. Good size bed, great walk-in shower, with shower gel, shampoo and a hairdryer. Tea and coffee in the rooms also a fridge and two complimentary bottles of water each day and a free safe in the room.

Nice basic hotel, very close to some of Bangkok's top attractions. It was a simple, clean, comfortable room and surprisingly very quiet considering where it's located- it's about a 10min walk from Khao San Road. The staff were great, super helpful and friendly. I also appreciated the travel and taxi info they sent prior to my arrival. The hotel info was given in Thai & English which was really helpful when getting a taxi.

The area it's in had everything you needed, but depending on your tastes it might not be suitable for everyone's tastes as it's a well known place for backpackers etc and is a bit rough round the edges. I felt safe though.

The other thing I'd say is make sure you have insect repellent. Bangkok is super hot and attracts the mozzies, so the repellent was very much needed for the room!

But overall if you're looking for somewhere clean, simple and basic to stay for a couple of days in Bangkok, I'd recommend.

Hi, no free shuttle from the air port. We paid roughly $2600 baht one way for a private taxi arranged by the hotel. However, the hotel does provide free transport to the hotel from the pier.
