For those seeking to experience the vibe of Bangkok as a psuedo-denizen for a couple of days -- that is, to live/to sleep amid that ordinary urban street mix of local food vendors adjacent to gleaming skyscrapers, [and, with some solid benefits such as a being near a handy supermarket, the Skytrain Phrom Phong stop, a hip juice bar, and... This is our favourite boutique hotel in Bangkok. It is a small hotel - just 7 rooms and as a result, you have very personal service. From the moment you step through the doors, you feel like you are being taken back in time, to another era - it is simultaneously elegant and casual. It is not like any other... More

We stayed at the Cabochon for our first visit to Bangkok and would definitely stay there again. It's close to the Skytrain station so it's pretty easy to get around and here's a good selection of bars and restaurants within walking distance. It's tucked away on a side street off a pretty busy road so getting a taxi is basically... More

Every time I visit Bangkok, Cabochon is my accommodation choice. In fact, I've stayed there five times. And each time, the experience was better than the last. I love the old world charm, chic colonial decor, delicious breakfast, and warm and sincere service. Its restaurant Thai Lao Yeh serves good Isan inspired cuisine. The shaved ice desserts are to diet... More

This is a very quiet, relaxing place with excellent staff, a great restaurant, and bartenders who really know how to make drinks (a rarity in this town.) A cute upstairs pool. Good access (by taxi) to the airport. Breakfast is laid out not in the restaurant, but the bar: great move, lots of character in here and private nooks so... More

We stayed at the Cabochon for two nights and wish we could have stayed longer. Immediately upon arriving, we were shown into a 1920s style parlor and given welcome drinks of fresh coconuts. It was incredibly relaxing. The hotel rooms are beautiful, perfect with lots of tables, desks, and comfortable chairs —perfect for writers, readers, and artists. The bar and... More

I stayed in a 2 bedroom 'apartment' for three nights at the end of a trip. My travelling companion and I had spent quite a bit of time researching our options for accommodation & we were really pleased with our selection of Cabochon. The best things about it are:- Big room (or in our case apartment) with a free ongoing... More

We found this unique hotel to be in a good part of Bangkok. Close to the Skytrain that connects you to most of the city and to/from the Airport. Very helpfull staff and overall great service level. As this is a boutique hotel with very few rooms, you really feel you get special attention. Nice rooms, with beautiful decor and... More

Wonderful and quiet hotel, hidden away in Bangkok. Staff were very friendly, rooms were clean with interesting decor, very good food and breakfast, clean roof top pool with free towels and water - all in all an excellent welcome to Bangkok. Only downside would be that there are not that many restaurants/bars nearby but as taxis are so cheap and... More

Well-appointed, comfortable and quiet. Probably the best hotel we stayed in during our month in Asia. A wonderful little hideaway amidst the madness of Bangkok's 10 million noise-makers. Don't sleep on the restaurant, either. It's quiet but truly exceptional.

Staying in Sukhumvit

Neighborhood Profile
Sukhumvit
With a mix of shopping malls, hip bars and food stalls lining both sides of Thailand’s longest road, you’ll rarely encounter a dull moment along Sukhumvit. While the main road itself doesn't offer a lot in terms of entertainment, it's the adjoining 'sois' (alleys) where the magic happens. Popular spots are soi 11 for a lively night out, soi 4 for naughty nightlife and soi 21 for world-class shopping at Terminal 21. It's hard to cover everything this area has to offer in on day, so be sure to take your time. Sukhumvit is heavily congested with traffic during day and night, so getting from A to B is most convenient using the BTS Skytrain right above it.
