My husband and I stayed at the lovely, atmospheric Atlanta Hotel in January of this year (due to several other trips, I’m way behind writing reviews). We had happened on it in a guidebook by chance, and we’re so glad we did – staying there was a highlight of our visit to Bangkok. It’s a stone’s throw (easy / 5-minute... More

The Atlanta is at the end of a long soi (street) off the madness of Sukhumvit road and just about within walking distance from either Nana Sky train or Ploentchit which afford an easy link to the airport, Chatuchak market, Jim Thompson's House and the refined and cooling shopping malls. I did enjoy staying here, mainly for the quirky experience... More

It's not without its faults but to paraphrase the sign on the counter - at these prices you can't complain. The rooms are nothing like the lobby being simple but clean. You're not paying for anything you don't need at The Atlanta. The food here is exceptional and we found most of the staff to be pleasant. Word of advice... More

I have stayed here twice.I like the location and the fact that it was one of the oldest hotels in Bangkok. BUT it STINKS of cat pee.....No getting around it.It smells everywhere!! It has a nice restaurant but the lobby and storage areas, pool and computer areas all stink. They need to get rid of the cats and renovate.Because I just can't... More

Really nice accommodation and not far from Bangkok train station. Clean, quiet and in walking distance of many places! Swimming with a beer or 2 really helps to cool you down. Prices are very reasonable, definitely worth a go! I will stay there anytime when visiting bangkok again.

The Atlanta Hotel is since more then 15 years my favourite in amazing Bangkok! It is centrally located, near the skytrain station Nana in Sukhumvit area! The staff is lovely and helpful, especially my dear friend Anong, the rooms spotless clean and the swimming pool nice and lovely! You start to love this place as soon as you walk through the door. True, the notices may make you feel the place is very conservative and some people may be put off by the signs saying "No sex tourists allowed" or "The Atlanta does not welcome undomesticated people"or "Families are welcome only if children are kept under reasonable control".... It's an unusual experience and love it. I have sent various friends there, most have really liked it but some friends didn't. It's quite conservative in many ways, but it's refreshing to be someplace which avoids the riff raf of murky tourists etc, who are in Bkk for different reasons. The pool is great, the resturant also very good and... More

Overall, for the price it's a great option for Bangkok. Love the restaurant with both local and western options. The two ladies who run it are great and so friendly. I especially like the older woman. She is like your mom away from home, Nice pool. The free Wifi works in the lobby and restaurant but in your room is... More

Staying in Sukhumvit

Neighborhood Profile
Sukhumvit
With a mix of shopping malls, hip bars and food stalls lining both sides of Thailand’s longest road, you’ll rarely encounter a dull moment along Sukhumvit. While the main road itself doesn't offer a lot in terms of entertainment, it's the adjoining 'sois' (alleys) where the magic happens. Popular spots are soi 11 for a lively night out, soi 4 for naughty nightlife and soi 21 for world-class shopping at Terminal 21. It's hard to cover everything this area has to offer in on day, so be sure to take your time. Sukhumvit is heavily congested with traffic during day and night, so getting from A to B is most convenient using the BTS Skytrain right above it.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The historic Atlanta Hotel in Bangkok is, literally, untouched by modern pop culture. Walking into The Atlanta is like walking into another world, a long lost world. Most of what a guest sees and hears is old and classic - and authentic. ***The Atlanta Hotel in Bangkok, founded in 1952, features many superlatives, notably, the most photographed and oldest unaltered hotel lobby in Thailand, the first hotel swimming (diving) pool in Thailand, the largest selection of Thai vegetarian dishes in the world, a unique jungle-like garden right in the middle of Bangkok. The western menu features dishes made in the 1950s style - dishes that were on the original menu of The Atlanta, and prepared in the same way. ***The historic Atlanta Hotel in Bangkok has strict policies: sex-tourists, drug users, trouble-makers, and undomesticated people are not welcome. Any of these found on the premises are dealt with summarily. Because of these strict policies, The Atlanta Hotel has many detractors or even enemies. The Atlanta Hotel upholds its principles and policies without compromise. As of 1st September 2013, smoking will no longer be permitted anywhere on the premises. ***The Atlanta Hotel is also home to destitute cats and terrapins. Injured and abandoned cats seem to find their way to The Atlanta. Many are rescued from elsewhere. There are at the time of writing 36 cats. Some live in an enclosure on one side of the garden; others live in the staff section of the hotel. The terrapins are all rescued and saved from loss of habitat. There are at the time of writing 27 terrapins. They live well in and around the pond of the jungle-like garden of The Atlanta. Two staff are employed full-time to look after the animals, and visiting vets often volunteer their services, which The Atlanta welcomes. There is a celebrated drawing by a regular guest of The Atlanta of the lobby featuring cats lying on the round sofa. The caption reads (in Italian), "Cats, the real guests of The Atlanta." Guests of The Atlanta are typically animal lovers. *** The Atlanta, being at the bottom of a lane, has no passing trade. All our guests are either regulars or friends of regulars. The Atlanta has many returning guests who have been coming to The Atlanta since the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and, of course, much later. ... more   less
