There are four star properties, five star hotels, and then, the Grand Dame Luxury retreats made for the rich and famous… or for those of us that are able and willing to buy that status for a couple of days. With the likes of The Copacabana, the El San Juan in its good years, or the Cipriani Venice, The Mandarin...

The Mandarin... What a place, it's elegant, grand and just mind-blowing. From the minute you see the traditionally dressed thai doormen, the 7-series BMW limousines and the floor to ceiling windows you know it will be perfect. The climate in the lobby is perfect and the staff incredibly polite. You can walk out to the riverside restaurant and have a...

I experienced Excellent stays for each of the past 46 years, several in some years. Feeling of being at home and more. From butler to front door attendant and at every level of staffing service provided is the envy of the Lodging Indusrty. The general managers Jan Goessing's , skills and management are a testimony to this end. A year...

We arrived from Narita WED at 11:05PM. If I can give you any advice, order the "Arrive in Style" package. I had an 82 year old man with me and this Oriental service took all the worry away. I didn't have to think about anything. We were guided through the process in everyway, so quick. I just looked at the...

There are a few hotels in the world that make their guests feel like superstars.. this is one of them. The staff are extremely courteous and the service is lovely. We had the dinner buffet one night and if i could've grown another stomach to fill with food, i would have. Being Muslim i appreciate that the meats are halal....

Overall it is a great hotel, staffs are friendly and very accommodating. Food are delicious but it is expensive, you pay for what you get at a 5 star hotel. Our room was large, clean and charm. Staffs spoke excellent English which impress me. If you are looking for a luxury hotel in Bangkok with impeccable service, look no further!

This is THE HOTEL in Bangkok, under all points of view. Historically, the Oriental was one of the big luxury hotel of colonial times and you can still feel it if in the old wing. The service is just amazing. The location is wonderful, on the shore of the Chao Praya river which is the beating heart of this crazy...

This is my fourth stay at the Mandarin Oriental in the last twelve years, and its impecable service and attention to detail continues to impress me. With the charm of a vintage place but the comfort of the 21st century, it continues to be one of my favorite hotels in the world. This last trip I stayed twice: the first...

Have stayed here a couple of times over the years and just recently stayed there again. Beautiful hotel with great service and excellent food, gym, etc. Everything is extremely expensive, which is to be expected by a 5 star. English Language is spoken well by the staff, which is quite rare in Thailand, which was a plus.

Staying in Silom

Neighborhood Profile
Silom
Despite the lack of any major tourist attractions, this lively neighborhood is a favorite of many. Whether it's the (somewhat naughty) nightlife of Soi Patpong, the various handicraft night markets or the plethora of dining options that tickle your fancy, a night out in Silom is a must on every itinerary. It's worth a stop during daytime, too: join office workers on a quest to tasty street food during lunch and shop at Silom Complex for a great mix of Thai and international stores. After a day of strolling around the congested sidewalks, a visit to Silom's Lumphini Park, Bangkok's answer to NYC's Central Park, is a welcome change of scenery.
