Bangkok is a bustling urban jungle, but if you want to unwind in a lovely colonial setting far from the chaos, this is the place!
Location - it is not in the center of town, you will need to commute (either by boat or taxis), but what you get is tranquility away from the craziness of the city.
Commute - there is a house boat that takes you down the river, however they are not too frequent and you need to plan and book in advance
Rooms - Very spacious, very comfortable and I found the interior of the room quite ingenious.
Service - wonderful and very attentive.
Breakfast - amazing! Great quality and selection.
Other comment - the only thing I wasn't keen on were the antiques which were displayed everywhere, I found them creepy.
I have stayed in Bangkok many times however this is a very different experience and I really enjoyed and appreciated it!
Such a calm and visually stunning hotel!!!

Response from Nick Downing, General Manager at The Siam

Dear barbaran536 Thank you for rating us so highly following your recent experience with us. It's wonderful to hear you enjoyed so many features of the hotel including our Location, Private shuttle boat, rooms and breakfast. Of course, it's no secret that The Siam is far from a cookie cutter hotel and is known for the thousands of pieces of artworks, antiques and curios all from our owner's private collection which he has personally curated throughout the hotel. I am sorry if this isn't quite your style. However I do hope that the rest of the hotel is enough to draw you back to our home by the river in the future. Thank you again! Warm wishes Nick Downing General Manager.

Our stay at this hotel was lovely. We usually stay at a Four Season property when traveling, but wanted to take a chance on a boutique hotel.
The physical plant was as described, absolutely serene, and beautifully maintained. We only ate breakfast at the hotel so cannot comment on the food, but the breakfast was surprisingly good. You could have anything you wanted, and the baked goods were delicious - I wasn’t expecting the variety or quality- they appeared to have been shipped in from Europe but were local.
Our room was large, very clean and expertly maintained throughout our stay.
The best thing about the Siam hotel was the staff, starting with the general manager. He appeared to be everywhere at once, gently directing staff, but in such a way as to make the interaction between himself, the staff and guests completely natural. The various staff from doorman, Bellman, waitstaff and Butler all seemed to like him and he interacted with them as a peer, not a director, yet he was clearly in charge. It was a pleasure to watch that degree of people skill and customer focus.
Whether that was necessary or not is unknown because the staff uniformly displayed the genuine warmth and hospitality so typical of the Thai people. Our room Butler kept track of our schedule and ensured we were where we were supposed to be without ever seeming intrusive. All with that genuinely warm Thai approach. He is a gem.
The pool was lovely and clean, and located right on the banks of the river which made for a great entertainment while sitting and soaking after a long hot day (it was also great for lap swimming). The gym was astonishingly good for a hotel of this size and intimacy. It has its own small Muay Thai ring, It too was clean and well maintained at all times.
In sum, the staff executed so well it just felt like you were staying with friends who cared about you. The property’s location up river from the bustle of Bangkok allowed for a wonderfully decompressing 20 minute boat ride each way in the morning and afternoon. If you wanted to go downtown for dinner you could have a cocktail at the bar and bring it with you on the boat. Then they’ll pick you up after dinner. It just doesn’t get better!
Thanks for a lovely visit, we look forward to our return.

Dear wsull Thank you for sharing such wonderful comments recently. I am so happy to hear that your chance to try our home by the river delivered an experience beyond your expectation on so many levels. The title of your review is exactly what we aim for. With only 39 Suites and Pool Villas we can create relationships with our guests beyond what any large hotel can hope to do. In these challenging times we continue to keep our doors open for now to keep The Siam family together. As we navigate the day to day issue changing daily, we hope that we will soon be able to welcome guests from around the world again once the world and travel returns to 'normal' Until then, thank you again for such glowing comments. Keep safe and warmest wishes from us all, Nick Downing General Manager.

The Siam is an elegant luxury hotel nestled in lush, green surroundings featuring only 39 suites and villa rooms. The hotel is next to the Chao Phraya river on Dusit road in Bangkok.
The Siam's elegant bedrooms boast high ceilings, bathrooms have separate wash basins and full bathtub. The beds are really comfy and soft for a good night's sleep, and the spacious living room area has a personal bar. All bedrooms look out over The Siam's peaceful garden. You can enjoy swimming in the long swimming pool while enjoying a river view.
When it's time to eat we suggest the Afternoon Tea Set for 2 - a must to try! Yummy scones, finger sandwiches, chocolate truffles, fruit tarts and a selection of Teas. I recommended The Siam organic ice tea, it's so refreshing with a hint of lemon.
For breakfast you can have breakfast next to the river at Chon Thai restaurant. I really love the a la cart menu. They have a wide international selection including; chicken biryani, crouque monsieur, french toast, bagels, eggs, noodles and Thai food, with fresh coffee, hot chocolate, assorted bakery items, cheeses and fresh fruits.

From arrival to departure, this hotel showcased an exceptional service. The best staycation I’ve ever had this year!
The team led by GM Nick and Director of Sales & Marketing Khun Tarn welcomed me. Check in was a breeze and I was introduced to Khun Gub, the butler who then escorted me to my room. He was engaging and knowledgeable about the property while he gave me a short tour of the hotel facilities before going to my appointed room.
They have given me a beautiful riverview room which was so spacious and charming. Their bed is so comfortable that I ended up sleeping for over 10 hours which I don’t do normally. The BEST bed! This place made me feel so relaxed. Food service and quality is top notch.
The hotel is the best Instagrammable location in the city with its unique art deco all over the place and its awesome greenhouse. If you need tranquility, serenity and ultimate relaxation, this is a highly recommended hotel. The service is exceptional, warm and friendly. I spent half of the day taking photos and admiring it at the same time!
Another important thing to highlight is the safety and hygiene measures being implemented in the property in a subtle, non intimidating way and of course not to miss sustainability initiative as simple as having a reusable, refillable water container ( I love it and I brought it with me for my daily run sessions at the park ) which is an ingenious program called #RefillNotLandfill.
This is an uber luxe place away from the hustle and bustle. You will never be disappointed. Highly recommended.
Kudos to the team!

There are pluses and minuses but I did not hesitate to give 5 / 5 to The Siam. It is definitely a luxurious hotel.
It is a mix of a boutique hotel, a museum and a luxury hotel. It is quite impressive. Service is excellent. There is a library which is quite unusual nowadays and a lot of art work, mainly Asian but also European. The room is nicely decorated, the bathroom is large and beautiful, but the shower is a bit old but very functional.
Breakfast service is professional, but it seems they are no able to go out of their routine. I asked them for hot water mixed with honey and lemon juice and I had to ask twice, they did not really understand what I wanted. When I asked for a fruit salad I had to explain what a fruit salad was.
The fitness club is fine, there is even a Thai boxing ring. TV screen would definitely be a plus. There were individual TV monitors on the treadmills but they were not operational. The swimming pool is near the river but it is a bit narrow.
Afternoon tea at the outside restaurant is great however they are a bit rigid. When I asked for tea at the beginning and espresso at the end, they refused to include it in the set menu. What difference does it make to refill tea or to serve a cup of coffee after tea?
Service is a bit slow. I did not mind on Sunday, but I had work to do on Monday and I would have appreciated faster service.
Toiletry is a bit limited for a hotel of this category. Of course, they bring to your room whatever you need if you ask but there was not even a tooth brush in the room. Soap and shampoo are in a big bottle, it seems to be the trend to please the environmentalist but I prefer small individual bottles of soap, shampoo and conditioner. Individual bottles are more sophisticated than big / family size bottles.
There are many buildings around The Siam. It is not very noisy, but it does not give the impression of quietness that I expected. Honestly, besides the fact it is near the river, the area is not the best. On Monday morning there was construction near the hotel and it was a bit noisy.
There is no dress code. You may like it ...or not. Personally, I am not a fan of flip-flops and sleeveless shorts.

Dear FranckJa Belated thank you for your in depth comments last year following your experience at The Siam. It is true that one really does need to experience The Siam to fully understand the experience we offer. I take all your comments to heart and thank you for rating us so highly despite any issues that perhaps were not 100% at the time. I am pleased to say that all nearby construction has been completed and our boat schedule has returned (5 times a day, 7 days a week) since restrictions have been lifted), so this helps to once again connect guests staying with us to venture along the river to any number of destinations and escaping Bangkok traffic. I do hope we have the chance to welcome you back again in the near future and please feel free to reach out to me directly to assist. Warm wishes Nick Downing General Manager

This place is an absolute haven in bustling metropolitan Bangkok. Eclectic mix of old world antiques from Western and Eastern influences adorn the hallways and rooms. The location is in the quiet royal district and has perfect access to all the major attractions via the complementary ferry provided by the hotel. The breakfast selection is excellent, all a-la-carte with delicious choices for all taste. The in-room hotel phone is a cell phone (which you are encouraged to take out with you sight seeing etc) complete with travel tips and guides built in, and has direct access to the hotel staff so you can ask questions or have dinner reservations organised for you when your out and about.
Treat yourself and get a private pool villa and be transported back a world of luxury and glamour. The staff were faultless and went above and beyond to make sure all our needs were well met. Nick the GM was always present to talk to guest and our butler Sumet even ran us a bath after a long day of sight seeing in Bangkok. Couldn't recommend this hotel any more highly.

I had an amazing stay in Bangkok over the holidays at The Siam. I can only describe it as a hotel unlike any other. It has an art deco architecture that is both classic and modern, complemented by an amazing and eclectic private collection of antiques that give you a sense of Thailand's history. It has truly dramatic spaces shared with only 39 suites - it feels like you have the hotel to yourself. The service is intimate, with a private concierge for each room and a cell phone provided so that guests can contact the hotel from their rooms or while out in Bangkok. The hotel has a boat shuttle which can bring you to various sites along the river (including the Grand Palace and famous temples), to the nearby shopping centers, and to the skytrain. The ride is beautiful and majestic. We booked an excellent and reasonable private guide (highly recommended) through the hotel, and they arranged a Muay Thai lesson in their gym for my family. The hotel GM (Nick) and his team helped us with everything, fixed every situation, and put up with my last minute planning. I highly recommend The Siam for a very bespoke experience in Bangkok. The hotel was just named as one of the 23 most iconic hotels of the last century by Architectural Digest, and it is far more grand than the photos can capture. I stayed at other luxury hotels in Thailand during my trip, but this was the one I'll never forget!

Exceptional staff with warm greeting from everyone. Delightful lobby very classy lots of plants and glass, quite steamy, rooms are classy and comfortable with good coffee pods and lovely bathrooms. Very comfy beds and pillows and staff know where you are all the time moving to clean rooms and do turndown when you are out at exactly the right time. Food here is exquisite, small portions but exactly right and delicious. View over the river, the private boat, the quiet pool and intuitive staff make this the best of Bangkok as it’s still small and personal. Quiet location but go out at sunrise and the area is full of local life and market stalls feeding the workers. It’s delightful. Smart, cool, trendy and very classy. You can’t lose if you like 5 star.

We stayed here for 4 nights for our 25th anniversary, and I must say it counts in the top 2 hotel stays along with Umaid Bhawan, Jodhpur!
It is completely different from any luxury Hotel you would have stayed in terms of the design, decor and service! A photographers dream, a true labour of love that one cannot get enough of!
As they aptly say, its is truly "part museum", "part resort" and a delight for anyone who appreciates vintage, art deco and classical design.
The baby of designer Bill Bensely, this green haven feels like home, when you return after a full tiring day out in the city, and that in my view is the ultimate compliment for a hotel.
We stayed in the Siam Suite (212) which was large, plush, huge comfortable bed an spacious bathroom.
BY the truffle chocolate left in the room, made in house are to die for!
Our Butler, who kind of kept changing, but was Khun Bright for the last 2 days was super helpful.
The hotel gives you a local phone to use snd carry and the coveniennce of calling him for any questions we had was invaluable.
We had some starters one afternoon, the squid and scallop, and I have to say, although smaller portion sizes, they were delectable and some of the best I
have ever eaten!
The breakfast is a la carte from a selection of items and was very good too.
Breakfast is in their Thai restaurant, on the river, and I could sit for hours just soaking in the peace! There was a certain energy and calm just gazing at the Chao Praya river that was so soothing to the soul.
The Thai restaurant is also housed in the very old Thai Teakwood houses that were bought, refurbished, reassembled and moved to this location.
One can spend hours discovering the 25000 plus antiques, perfectly placed as though they always belonged there, or one can just drown in the lush greenery and amazing aromas!
The owners have clearly put their heart an soul into this hotel and the eye to detail is really commendable!
meeting with their GM Nick was a pleasure, so easy to talk to, and down to earth, no wonder the property feels and runs the way it does.
If I had to absolutely pick a flaw, it would be that my husband thought his massage at. the spa was very average, but then again, that could be that particular therapist only. The spa itself looks and smells fab!
This has to be on everyone's bucket list at least once, as it is an experience not to be missed!
Of course it spoils you terribly, where in staying anywhere else might become difficult!
As for us, we will definitely be back! In fact cant wait to goback!

While traveling with friends who were staying longer, we had the treat of staying here one night - and what a treat it was! The hotel is gorgeous and our room enormous and very nicely decorated. Service was also exceptional, and the staff was able to accommodate last minute requests without hesitation. The only slight drawback was location — being out of the center of town, it was a bit more difficult to get to and from temples and restaurants; however, the hotel’s boat that shuttles guests down the river is a nice perk.

Dear tribecaleblon Thank you for taking time to share such lovely comments following your recent brief time with us. I am delighted to hear you loved the rooms and the hotel overall, most importantly wonderful to hear that the service also delivered. I would agree that our location is always something to consider. For those planning to spend the majority of their time downtown to visit the large shopping malls and the downtown restaurants, then there are possibly better situated hotels. However it is true that our complimentary scheduled boat cruise connects our guests with some of the most popular (and also hidden) cultural and historic sights, places for retail therapy as well as an amazing array of restaurant options literally by the river or via a short transfer...and all without having to about Bangkok's famous peak hour traffic! All that being said, we truly hope that you choose to return to The Siam next time your plan to visit Bangkok and hopefully next time will be for a little longer! We look forward to welcoming you all back! Warmest wishes and thanks again, Nick Downing General Manager

Hello!
The plunge pools in the villas are:
2.5m wide x 4m long by 1.4m deep
They are not heated and no longer feature jacuzzi jets.
They are more for cooling down at the end of a busy day exploring Bangkok!
I hope this assists.
Please do reach out if I can assist further in any way
Warm wishes,
Nick Downing

Hello Chocolate...
Our 80sqm entry level Siam Suites do have windows and natural light. However I would point out that they are slightly unconventional in layout where you enter off the main atrium into a small sitting area (frosted windows to the atrium allow natural light into this area. You then pass through into the large bedroom itself which is like an inner sanctuary of the Suite. Beyond the bedroom is the large bathroom with central floating bath and windows to the outside. Natural light from here does path through frosted glass panes into the bedroom from this side also.
So yes, it is a little unco inventional in layout. However 99% of guests love the design, comfort and layout of these urban sanctuary to retreat to at the end of the day.
However should a guest prefer a more traditional layout with living room/bedroom windows overlooking the gardens and villas and towards the riverside, we have the Garden View Suites and River View Suites on offer.
I hope this clarifies and please feel free to reach out to me directly via our hotel website which can easily be found 'thesiamhotel'
I truly hope we have the chance to welcome you to The Siam
Warm wishes and safe travels,

I hope this assists.
