We spent 3 nights at this unique, rustic and traditional Thai guesthouse on the river’s edge in Bangkok. Thinking back, it holds some of our most memorable moments in the City. I highly encourage you to book the Green Room (rm.#1) which is on the ground floor and offers stunningly incredible views of the Chao Phraya River. We opened the draperies after dark and spent endless hours watching the colorful party boats cruise on by, and by day the views were equally interesting and memorable. My only regret about the room was that you shower in a large cast iron bathtub and overspray control is impossible. We made a mess with our showers. The hotel is tucked behind a small temple and is somewhat hard to find. The entryway is through a short alley filled with motor bikes and wash pans. Thus, it is certainly not glitzy. We found it charming and the staff is laid back and friendly. They will cook you just about anything from their kitchen and their Thai food dinners are delicious. I would definitely return to this most memorable hotel and I would recommend it to my friends.

Loy La Hong is a unique experience in busy Bangkok. I could say set by the waters of the Chao Phraya River, but a more apt preposition would be “on” the waters. I stayed in the black room and if you looked closely through the cracks in the floorboards you could see the Cha water lapping the shoreline.
Words such as unique, boutique, charming, rustic, riverside, wooden, full of charm, traditional come to mind as I write this review. It is probably not the accommodation for everyone. If you want a plastic and concrete tower, then Loy La Hong is not for you. If you want to stay in a uniquely Thai style of accommodation in Chinatown, then I would highly recommend Loy La Hong.
I wouldn’t call them criticisms but two aspects you should be aware of: it was tucked away behind a temple and some taxi or Tuk Tuk drivers might not know it's location. Make a paper copy of their directions and check with the driver that he knows where to go. Secondly the black room was tastefully done but small, other rooms appeared larger. I would check to see which room you are being offered This is compensated by two lounge/dining room/ verandahs where you can spend relaxing hours watching the comings and goings on the river.
I stayed three nights and left early each morning to go sightseeing. I regret not having a lazy day lying around, drinking and eating.
Do give Loy La Hong a try, I found it to be wonderful.

Location location location. It is hidden behind a temple and they were working on the walking path outside this house that is on the river and so we were hesitant upon arrival. Once the door opened, though, that all faed away. The house is not on the banks, but literally IN the river. You can see when the tide is high the water lapping on the bank as you walk into the front door. Off with those shoes and into one of their seven guest rooms. We had the Red Room with its funkiness: small shower and cubby hole extra space with no true windows to the exterior, but it was AMAZING. The bed was SO comfortable. I would wake up every morning and step out of the room and onto the terrace overlooking the Chao Phraya with a fresh cup of coffee and just soak it all in: watch the barges go by. Their breakfasts are amazing. You choose from a menu the night before and they serve you on their terraces or inside the downstairs restaurant area. It is on the edge of Chinatown so there is much to do and see just right here. It's on the river so easy access to two piers with water taxis and the tourist boat to hop on hop off at all the major temples and must see attractions. We walked from here to two Michelin reviewed restaurants (only were able to get into one because we didn't have reservations) and the neighborhood felt safe even at 11PM.

One strike against if you are an early-to-bed kind of a person is that, being on the river, you hear the dinner cruise party boats every night. And there are a lot of them going up and then back down with live lounge singers on the way up and then dance tunes on the way back. This isn't until that late, but it could be a bummer if you are sensitive to noise. If I remember right, they offer earplugs for those that need. Watching the boats float up and down the river in the evenings was fun in itself.

I recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a more authentic experience of Bangkok than the polished westernized hotels offer. The house is absolutely lovely, and the rooms are comfortable and well appointed. Breakfast was delicious every morning, and we appreciated the easy access to beverages throughout the day. The staff are nice, although a bit standoffish. While not located in the nicest part of town, the neighborhood is quiet and we felt completely safe there. The hotel is tricky to find the first time you arrive, and drivers were often confused when we gave the address. The noise from the river can be loud, but we were able to sleep well for the most part. I recommend the Black Room for guests who prefer a bit more privacy, although it is directly on the river and can be a bit noisy at night.

This hotel was awesome. Marino the mgr was attentive to every detail throughout our stay. This quaint hotel had the best Thai food we ate in Bangkok and was prepared by the sweetest of staff. We were welcomed in and treated to lemongrass water while our bags were carried to our room. The room was unique, beautiful and most importantly to me…..clean with quirky spaces and a private secret entrance to the balcony upstairs overlooking the River. A Fireworks show started as we walked out onto the deck as if on queue for our arrival. I would have to be convinced to stay anywhere else when traveling back through Bangkok.

Excellent hotel to rest and enjoy a typical thaï style. View from the restaurant and the terrace was amazing. I especially recommand the green room my husband and I had booked ; perfect for couples, with an amazing bathroom and a stunning view of the river. Furthermore, food was delicious and fresh, and prepared in front of customers by the staff, who was really kind and caring, and perfectly english speaking.

The staff at Loy La Long make you feel so welcome as soon as you step in the door. Nothing is too much trouble. We stayed in the blue room, and it was AMAZING!!! A true Thai experience. While breakfast is included (and is wonderful!) don’t miss out enjoying something from their dinner menu, you won’t be disappointed. If you want a very special experience while in Bangkok, don’t miss a stay at Loy La Long!!

Both my partner and I are teachers and we wanted a way to unwind after a hectic end to the school year. Loy La Long was perfect for us! A traditional wooden style house, right on the river. Very chilled atmosphere, comfy and cosy room, with a wonderful little balcony overlooking the river. We initially planned to stay 3 nights but then extended our stay for an extra 2. The staff were smiley and friendly and the owner speaks excellent English and is very approachable. Great location in the heart of Chinatown, walking distance to many areas, but still quiet and away from the noise. Altogether, we loved our stay here.
Thank you Loy La Long!

Me with my family and friends from both Thailand and overseas come here regularly, and we were so glad to be able to come after covid. Service is always great, and the breakfast was tasty. Being able to see the river close by makes this place very unique. Location is also great, Chinatown is within walking distance for good food.

My hubby and I stayed in the Green Room. It is the most amazing place we loved it. The views from the Hotel is wonderful, laying on the bed watching all the activity go by on the River is fascinating. The food is amazing, the staff are sensational. A real treat to end our time in Bangkok.

We stayed at Loy La Long last week and spent each night on their wonderful second floor deck, watching river traffic pass by on the Chao Phraya River. Nobody reported any problems with the mosquitoes. It was tempting to leave the windows open when we turned in for night but we chose to close them tight and crank up the A/C instead. We Coloradans are a wimpy bunch when it comes to humidity.

How many nights do you recommend? I'm thinking 4 ??

I just stayed for 2 nights but would have loved to stay longer at Loy La Long, however if you're interested in seeing Thailand outside Bangkok I would spend more time in the north (Chiang Mai) and south in the islands. A city is a city, but LLL makes you feel like you've escaped the craziness that is Bangkok.

Hi, I can only say that the room - the entire hotel was extremely clean. We had no problems with bugs of any kind in the bed or the room. You must keep in mind that this B&B is on the river, any bugs that people may comment on will be enevitable where ever you stay, however non seen on this trip. Please dont let this comment put you off staying here - its a truly beautiful place to stay and you wont regret choosing here.

Although we travelled by public transport and no need for parking, there did seem a lot available. As it set in the grounds of a temple you may want to contact direct. Fantastic place to stay though and would go back again and again.
