Detailed Reviews
My family opted to stay in this hotel for about 1 week. The hotel is situated in very convenient location: MRT station is right in front of the hotel ( u see the exit to” Bangkok Centre Hotel” on your arrival at the Hua Lamphong station, select this rather than looking for Hua Lamphong Hotel itself as this hotel is a small hotel while Bangkok Centre Hotel is a bigger one just nearby).
When u look at the map visible inside MRT train, u can see the railway symbol above the name Hua Lamphong station. Yes, railway station is just on the opposite side of our hotel: cross the road to get there. But it seems that such railway station is mainly for travelling to locations outside Bangkok. If u want to travel anywhere from the hotel, u can go by MRT, tuk tuk( with many tuk tuk waiting in front of the hotel usually), even motorbike taxis or taxi...
Seven- eleven convenient stores are everywhere in Bangkok and it’s not exception to this hotel. We can buy ice to keep in water bottle for long day travelling from 7-11. My kids love Meji Milk from this store. Starbuck is also nearby.
I see many foreigners stay in this hotel. The hotel has been operational since 2009.
The lift is quite slow as per comments by many other reviewers but we can walk using stairs instead.
If u dont like this hotel someway, the nearby hotels are Metro Hotel, Bangkok Centre Hotel...

We booked two rooms as we were travelling as a family of four. Deluxe double and a standard double. The deluxe room was a reasonable size with good air con, bed was firm but comfortable. Could done with more pillows. Bathroom wasn’t deluxe, good size but shower was poor. And the toilet door hardly shut and scraped loudly when rolled. Road noise was loud and constant. Location is ok 10 minutes to china town. We won’t be visiting again.

+1
the hostel is perfect for a overnight stop and also for a few days. our room was small but very nice and modern decorated and the walls were painted in fresh colours.our bathroom had a shower and a western toilet, everything was brandnew. the washbasin was not in the bathroom but very stylish integrated inside the room. the lobby is small, colourful and also furnished in a modern style, but there is no elevator. the staff is very friendly and helpful in any case of your interesstings. they offer also tourist tours in and around bangkok and residents have free wifi. also computers for checking the internet are available.unfortunatelly our room had only singleglas windows and specially at night it was a little bit noisy, because a real big street is infront of the hotel. the hostel further offers laundry service and meals around the whole day. we had braekfast there and it was prepared fresh and very good. a mrt station is directly in front of the hostel and important shopping or amusement areas are easy reachable.
we had a pleasant stay at hua lamphong and can recomment this "high class" low budget hostel very much.

Book this hostel online two week before arriving. Surprised that it is clean. We stayed in a room for couple, just facing the town, in my case it was facing the Bangkok Railway Station. Like the environment, simple but nice, big bathroom, free wi-fi. Kettle is not provided but you can have one with deposits.

Let me start by saying that the hostel is okay. It's not the nicest or cleanest but it's great if you have to be at Hua Lamphong early in the morning
The bed was squeaky and the air conditioning sounded like a plane landing. I've stayed in worse.
Most of the staff were polite and friendly. One lady, with the two beautiful dogs, was so welcoming and friendly! However this can't be said of all the staff. There is one lady working at reception who is the rudest person I have ever encountered. She would ignore you if she didn't want to speak to you. She spent most of her time working on her phone. She was so unhelpful when asking for advice about Bangkok or other tours. This happened on numerous occasions. She should not be allowed to work on the front desk. If this was the UK she would have been fired!
Because of this I must say that if reccomend staying elsewhere! There are better and cheaper hostels in near proximity.

My friend and I stayed in this hostel for 2 nights as it is right next to hua lamphong train station. The area te hostel is based is not very nice but the hostel itself was great. We had a private room with clean bathroom and shower. We had free wifi and the staff were all very friendly and helpful with information we needed about moving into cambodia. I would definitely recommend this hostel and I would stay here again when I return to bangkok!

I was incredibly happy to have found this hostel right by the train station cause I was arriving late at night in BKK and leaving very early in the morning to catch up another train so the location of this hostel was just perfect!! When I entered I was amazed by the looks, it is a brand new place, everything is super clean and well decorated.
However, as soon as I exchanged my first word with the reception staff I knew I would not want to come back to this place unless it was strictly necessary.
I stayed two times at this hostel. I was on a visa run to Cambodia so I stayed one night on my way in and one night on my return.
The first time I got a pretty average treatment, a serious face from the woman at reception and little willingness to help or advice. When I came in she was sitting on one of the sofas and she didnt even get up until I asked whether someone was at reception. Then she went around the reception, asked me for my name and handed me the key to my room. No smile, no welcoming words, nothing. Straight away she came back to sit in the sofa and read a magazine.
Ok I thought..
But on the second time I stayed at the hostel, I knew I was not gonna be super welcomed by a big smile, but I would have never expected what I got.
I got my keys and walked up the stairs to my room to find that I was again given the room passed the emergency stairs (which felt very unsafe), and not only this, I was in a dormitory room with only one more person: a 50 year old man who was lying in bed and drinking beer. None of the other beds where occupied and it was already pretty late at night so I doubted anyone else would be coming at this time. As a female solo traveller, somehow this didnt feel right.. I needed to get some rest after a long trip and in these conditions I knew I was not going to.. so very politely, I came down to reception and I explained the situation to the woman and asked her if she could please move me to a room where there was more people. Without the minimum concern in her expression she said: NO.
I could not believe how little concern for her guests she could have, so I tried to explained again my reasons for wanting to change rooms. I even suggested that I wouldnt mind to pay extra for a private room. NO. She said again. I realised then that at that time I could not go anywhere else, I had to stay there!! So I didnt want to make a big scene. I tried to act as calmly as I could althought the little tact from this person had already hurt me so much. I asked her whether there were more people coming to my room, whether there were other reservations and she only said: You just wait!. And the worst thing is when I said: "well, I don't feel safe", to what she answered, almost laughing at me: "IT IS SAFE".
I had to turn around and go back to my room feeling appalled by what had just happened. I know it is not a big deal, nothing had happened so far, it was just me trying to ensure my safety. But I just would like to tell this person that she may want to be a woman, she may dress like one, but you will never be one unless you understand that personal safety is the number One concern for a female solo traveller.

Response from Nudchanart J, General Manager at At Hua Lamphong Hostel
Responded Sep 24, 2013
We had informed this customer that there were two Japanese girls coming to stay in this room. So, there are more female customers in this room but this customer insisted to change a room. We could not arrange that for her even it was better for us to get more money because all the rooms were full that night. By the way, this customer's discrimination on transgender is unacceptable.

Very good hostel. Nice clean and compact rooms, excellent cafe which serves really tasty breakfast, very good location (MBK mall, eat street) is nearby. Staff is friendly and will guide you in case you need any help. Tuk tuks are available right outside the hostel.

We stayed here for one night before transit to Chiangmai Mai by overnight train. It was an absolutely perfect location for this! It is located almost right outside the Hua Lamphong station (which is on a direct line from the major airport), and you can get to the Bangkok international train station via the Hua Lamphong station underpass - very handy when it's pouring with rain! It was a bustling location, with plenty to do around.. We walked from here down to the river and to MBK. A bit ambitious, but doable if it's not raining.
Beware the ol' tuktuk drivers out front. Will try to charge more than double what it should cost to go anywhere and will try to take you 'one stop' via their 'sponsor' to pressure you into buying hats or shirts or scarves or whatever they might be selling.
Ladies at the front desk were nice enough and didn't try to push you into tours etc. The room we had was very pleasant - double with en suite on 5th floor, clean, quiet, comfortable. There was a little tiny fridge, a TV, aircon (thank god) and a safe. Bed was comfy and shower was good but not great. All in all, comfortable stay.
