I stayed in the Castle in 2013. Jim, the owner, was an absolute gentleman. We came up to have a few drinks and enjoy the pool. The weather turned and it was torrential. Jim allowed us stay free of charge. He said you couldn't turn people away in that weather. After a lovely meal and a great sleep, we left with the best impressions ever. Go there, you'll love it. We'll be back, and then some.
I have been here 20 times or more. The Castle Resort is a gem. Wonderfully located below Sarangkot with all those paragliders. Best place to start an easy trek or even an expedition in the Himalayas! I will be back latest in April 2020 to have one or two more drinks with Sophie & Joe Hammond. Rolf
I returned to the Castle Resort once again last May with my son after an adventurous trek to Upper Mustang and we were very happy to relax in this haven of peace. The castle actually is a small and unpretentious, yet very comfortable but atypical Homestay. There is a red tower, hence the name castle, and even hosts a small and cosy pub. The owner, Pipe Baba is Irish and you will often find him sitting there telling exciting stories of his and his lovely wife's Sophia climbing expeditions as they're a both mountain lovers and have been all over the Himalayas. They could even organize a trek for you. I love this place set in such a lush and tranquil environment, away from the hustle and bustle of busy lakeside. It's situated on top of a hill overlooking the beautiful Fewa lake and the world peace pagoda but only 20 minutes walking distance away from the center. It has a lovely garden and even a pool which we thoroughly enjoyed to loosen up our muscles after the trek. And best of all, you will be greeted by the owners Boxer dog, a bunch of chicken and sometimes even monkeys. 5 minutes up the hill there is now a Yoga center with a lovely view over the lake and the Hatha Yoga session I attended was unexpectedly good and professional. Just a little further up is Sarangkot and the sky is filled most of the time with colorful Paragliders, you should go and one of pipe Baba's and Sophia's friend does professional tandem flights. I love it and do it whenever I can! If you don't mind getting up early, you also should take a hike up the mountain behind the castle to watch the splendid sunset and to get a good view of Machapuchare or commonly called: fishtail mountain. Believe me, it's worth it and it only takes about 1 hour or so to walk up. I couldn't recommend this place more and many thanks again dear Sophia, Pipe Baba and staff for making our stay with you so relaxed and comfortable! Alisha and Max…
The hotel is 10 min walking from the road but offer a very quiet space with good view and good accomodation out if the busy and turistic down town. Food is great, foreign owner make sure everything is fine. The swiming pool i great in day time to rest after a trek. People are very nice like else where but also very helpful. I had plan to do a 2 days treck alone but rabin, one of the staff proposed me to come along with me, damn it was so useful for all little logistic details and no hesitation on the track which can poison your trip and he has been a very pleasant company, such a lovely guy. I thank him so much and i thank the hotel management to have let this happen. Hubert valois
This resort was beautiful. Though the road is very bad to reach the resort but after you reach there once you will love the view of pkr city and its worth reaching there. I loved the place and will visit again..
We are a group of seven friends and we were so happy when we arrived at the hotel. It looks so nice. It's a bumpy ride up the hill, but it's totally worth it. Rabin and Ganga helped us very good with everything we needed. The hotel is clean, there was hot running water. The people were really helpful. The food is delicious, everything is organic, from their own gardens.
We had the best stay in this hotel. We were informed and helped to do a trekking from Nayapul to Poonhill. We were able to leave our BIG bags in the hotel so that was great! We also got a room when we came back from the trekking. Not only was the food tasty also he service (from Rabin and Ganga ) was great! Tomorrow we take the bus to CHITWAN, also bootjes via this hotel (1000 npr per person).
We were a group of 7 people on a trip trough nepal. During the stay we were met with very pleasant staff, meeting our needs in every way. With tasty food and welcoming smiles. The rooms had warm beds and from our hammock we had a very pretty view on the lake below.
Well after doing EBC in dec/jan2019, I just wanted to chill/ re-charge and a friend of mine from Ireland had mentioned get away from Kat & head to Pokhara cleaner air. He had stayed at a place called the Castle on over 6 visits. I took him up on this and cannot explain in words how amazing Pokhara and the castle resort are. from the minute i walked up the hill path (taxi from the road) I was greated by Sofia & Joe who before I checked in Sofia had ordered a pot of hot water with Ginger & Honey as she had noticed I had a chest infection. (my mum was in England) and to get this from people I had never met before was a sign that I could relax. I cannot explain my experience here only that i was treated like part of a family and I Sofia kept me toped up with H/W, Honey & ginger even though I didn't expect this. I am a builder by trade so am a bit rough. I put my hands up and tried an introduction Yoga course with there recomened Teacher. It does work!!!. I don't Lie or BULL xxxx and will talk to anyone about this place and what to expect. I forgot about the food/drink. Breakfast is when you come down for it. Be polite unlike me and inform them if you will not be around for dinner as they would wait for you to have a sit down meal. If you want to chill by the pool all day or if you want an excersion let these guys organise it, (Trekking, Paragliding, motor bike etc) I would rather talk direct then type about my time at the castle as I haven't told you about Joe or Sofia your Hosts. pictures, notes, words, etc, cannot describe them as you feel like family. I have only just got back to london but I will be back again within six months. I Love them as hosts and the amazing time i wish 2 more days but work calls. They have what we all want in life???? I am just back in london 2 hrs but writing this I am going to call them to say I am Home!!!!…
As in all good adventures the trail to the Castle starts with choice of challenges. An invigoratingly ongoing set of stone steps from the tail end Lakeside or a rattling bounce on a motorbike up a gravelly potholed switchback track just past the headland. Either, should you survive it, will eventually allow you to gain access to this cliff top wonderland of tranquility. The recipe: Take a jovial expat hobbit with twinkling eyes, marinade him in Irish Whisky for 20 years and let his imagination manifest into a magical haunt for tippling amongst a beautifully manicured tropical take on a French impressionist garden, add in a generous glug of gloriously quirky architecture and you've got the Castle. It's comfortably similar to normal reality but delightfully different. You might struggle to get what you ordered and may do well to supervise the production anything as risqué as a cocktail, but the soul nurturing loveliness of the setting and genuine affability that comes from the top down, make this one of my favourite places in the world to muse on how lucky I am be sipping wine here, and on the way that life sometimes rewards that bit of extra effort rather magnificently.…
