Stayed at this nice little hotel for a total of five nights during a two week trip to Nepal. The hotel is in a back street location in the main tourist area of Thamel, about 20 mins from the airport. The surrounding streets are somewhat narrow and 'potholed' and a public bathing site is at the end of the street. However, there are many restaurants in the area, so choice is great if you do not wish to eat in the hotel.

The staff here are lovely, very welcoming and always seem pleased to see you and always ask after your day. We returned to this hotel three times during the two week period and each time we were greeted like old friends. Our room was clean, tidy but quite compact and devoid of any storage , although due to our 'nomadic' itinerary, we were living out of our cases, so storage wasn't essential for us. There is no room safe. Note that there is a building site next door which seems to have some strange working hours.......with shovelling of debris late at night and early mornings being a little annoying. Obviously not the hotel's fault but may be worth requesting a room at the rear side of the hotel.

We ate a couple of meals in the restaurant as well as the included buffet breakfasts and enjoyed the reasonably priced food. Overall, we enjoyed each stay here and would happily return.

Note that most hotels and restaurants in Nepal add 10% service charge and 23% government tax to the advertised prices. Card payments also attract a 4% surcharge throughout Nepal.

All the staff at the Norbulinka Boutique Hotel from the receptionists to the barman to the waiters were very friendly and made us feel very welcome.
We were offered drinks on arrival & our luggage taken to our rooms. The rooms were comfortable with nice, comfy beds plus a flat screen tv, free Wi-Fi, a kettle & coffee (no tea though) and a walk in shower with plenty of hot water and free toiletries.
The rooms were cleaned every day & we received 2large bottles of water each day too.
A very good buffet breakfast was served, with different hot dishes available including omelettes, chicken sausages, mini garlic potatoes, freshly cooked vegetables and some curry dishes plus cereals, juices & teas. The restaurant also serves very tasty dinners including delicious mimosas and thalis served with a refreshing bottle of Gorkha beer and their specialty - Nepalese rum with honey & hot water which we had every night.
The hotel is in North Thamel in a vey convenient location and close to the many restaurants and stalls of Thamel.
Well worth seeking out as a very good value Hotel close to the action in the heart of Kathmandu.

Great location, just a short block off the hustle and bustle of Thamel. Free airport pick up and drop off which was great. Excellent value if on a budget. We stayed twice, but the second visit we had a room on a higher floor which was noisy with barking dogs, so better request a lower/quieter room if you need quiet to sleep. Breakfast nothing special. Super friend and helpful staff.

Room Tip: Ask for a lower room not facing the city. We had a problem with barking dogs.

The perfect accomodation for my Kayaking Adventure Trip in Nepal. The location is easy to access by road just a couple of turns from the main road on a quiet street in Thamel where you can walk to all of the shops and restaurants you like. The staff are very friendly and helpful and I look forward to staying here on my future visits in Kathmandu

I still do not know what star hotel Norbulinka is but I must admit that the entire service was FIVE STAR.
Located literally at the heart of Kathmandu, just a block from the palace of the former Shah Monarchs of Nepal, the rooms of the hotel offered historic feel with hard wood floor and the ceilings along with modern bathrooms. Authentic Nepali food and the hospitality of the entire staff were simply unforgettable.
I left a bit of my heart to the hotel as I left last October. The only place I would call home away from home when I go to Nepal would be Norbulinka.

We stayed here as part of our tour, and the place really grew on us. Nice to sit and have a drink. The curries were cooked fresh and tasty, particularly the paneer and the chicken. The rooms are ok, ours didn't have a particularly interesting view. The wet room bathroom does tend to get water everywhere, but I think that's common to all the hotels we stayed in Nepal. Would recommend.

The BEST customer service we've had the entire month of being in Nepal. The front desk hostesses were so warm and kind and helpful. The rooms are nice, spacious, clean and cozy. Breakfast was a variety each morning and all of the staff greeted us with smiles and assistance at every turn. Highly recommend.

It was a great experience to stay in Norbulinka Hotel which had a very delicious dinner. We asked for the whole day sightseeing and the manager Mr Rabin organized everything for us (thank you!) Great service and value for money. I will keep the hotel at my top list among other hotels in Nepal. Will definitely choose Norbulinka for my next trip to Nepal.

My wife and I stayed here for the first two days in Nepal before setting off around the country. On first arrival we were unsure due to the amount of construction going on around the hotel (turns out this is everywhere!) The staff were so friendly throughout our stay, the breakfast was great and the location is superb for our time in Kathmandu as well as being near to the tourist bus station. We are returning to Norbulinka for the conclusion of our trip as we were so satisfied!
