Detailed Reviews

A difficult one to review. For a place that brands itself as a luxury boutique hotel it isn’t exactly that by international standards. The building is wonderful in its traditional style and the stupas and references to Nepali architectural history and belief systems. The staff at reception are great. But the hotel interior is very tired and in need of attention. Walls are marked, fittings are old, furnishing covers and cushions are marked, curtains need a clean, towels and bedding (including pillows) need a proper cleaning or new stocks should be bought in. In room items like soap and shampoo are very basic and again not in keeping with the ‘luxury’ tag. A general revitalization is needed if the ‘luxury boutique’ brand is to be retained. Without the reference to luxury it would be an acceptable local mid range Kathmandu hotel. It’s just that expectations are not met based on the branding.

Room Tip: Don’t have ‘luxury’ expectations. Still can be enjoyed if expectations match with it really is.

My rating as 2 for room is for room 1011 where they put me on 22nd March which wasn't clean, hygiene was issue, used oil bottles were in the drawer etc.
My rating as 2 for service is because the above mentioned issue was addressed to the two staff on duty at the reception that evening just ignored and laughed & no resolution was provided.
A heritage hotel, Infrastructure looks amazing; Love the room except the one that they gave me on 22nd March 2024 (Room 1011). It was not well maintained and cleanliness was a concern. The worst was when told it was taken for granted by the two staffs that were present on duty that evening. The same situation was explained to Yuvraj who was on duty – he was a great listener and also he immediately took an action to get the curtain changed in the bathroom, get the drawer of the side table cleaned which had used oil bottles, comb etc. I appreciate Yuvraj and Sarbin – both displayed great listening skills that always impacts customer service.
Food – Complimentary breakfast was amazing, even the dinner we had ordered was great. I wish they had MOMO available even in the night. As a few of us wanted to have MOMO before leaving Nepal.
Room – except 1011, love the room. The rooms with swimming pool view are just amazing.
The staffs at the entrance were also amazing and well dressed, well behaved.!
I stayed there for two nights 17th March and the 22nd March 2024. I would love to go back to Hotel Shankar, Hotel Soaltee on the basis of how they treat the guests. On 22nd evening they (two staffs who were at guests relationship that night – 22nd March) laughed at my issue at the reception which was not a good experience at all.

The hotel was comfortable and clean. The staff were welcoming and friendly. It was a quiet and relaxed base for exploring Kathmandu before heading off trekking. Close enough (for us) to walk to Thamel (20 mins) and Durbha Square via the bazaars (about 40 mins). Ifcrequired very easy to get taxis. There was an event in the courtyard on our first night, but it didn't carry on very late and didn't impact our stay.
They were happy to store luggage that wasn't required for trekking for collection on return.

Hotel Manaslu, located in the heart of Kathmandu, offers a charming blend of traditional Nepali architecture and modern amenities. Its historical appeal, dating back to the 1970s, is reflected in the elegant wood carvings and traditional decor throughout the hotel, giving visitors a taste of Nepal’s rich cultural heritage.
The rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable, offering the essentials for a pleasant stay, though some may find the interiors slightly dated. The hotel features a beautiful garden and a swimming pool, providing a peaceful oasis away from the city's hustle and bustle.
The staff are friendly and attentive, always ready to assist with any requests or inquiries. The on-site restaurant serves a variety of local and international dishes, though the menu can feel limited at times. Breakfast is generally well-received with a decent selection.
The hotel’s location is convenient for exploring Kathmandu, situated near the tourist hub of Thamel and several cultural landmarks. However, traffic noise can occasionally be an issue, given its proximity to main roads.
Overall, Hotel Manaslu is a good option for travelers seeking a traditional Nepali ambiance, warm hospitality, and a central location at a reasonable price.

Had a very bad experience, room is old Nepalese style with floors being made of stone so you feel cold most of the time.
the hotel is full of marriage functions so your sleep is going to be spoiled.
above all you dont get Hot water in your room its luke warm water which they say is the best hot water they can serve.
Even the guards or bell boy keep looking for the tips. so its not my kind of Hotel to stay

The hotel gives a very vintage vibe and have a beautiful ambience .
It’s located centrally and just a walk away from a busy market .
Breakfast buffet was also diverse but over all service is bit slow .
The garden is also very well maintained with a nice restaurant.

I really enjoyed being here because it was so beautiful and every detail made me feel I was really steeped in Nepali culture. The room was very comfortable and functional. The only drawback was that the wifi was not up to par, so it can be a good place to live life offline for once.

This is a hidden gem among other high priced and bigger named hotels. From arrival to departure the place is superb. The staff cannot do enough for you and will help with any queries you have. The facilities are again superb and not too in your face. This is a place I would definitely recommend if you are ever travelling to Kathmandu.
Thanks Manaslu for a memorable stay.
