The Dwarika's Hotel has garnered acclaim for its spacious and traditionally styled rooms, which provide a comfortable retreat, though some visitors have mentioned issues regarding noise and privacy. Its amenities, including a peaceful courtyard and a variety of cultural experiences, are a highlight for many guests. The service at the hotel is frequently lauded for its warmth and professionalism, contributing to the overall experience of cultural immersion. While the hotel's location near the airport and dining venues is appreciated, opinions on value for money and dining quality vary among travelers, with some feeling it falls short of its 5-star rating. The hotel's atmosphere, noted for its authentic Nepalese decor, and the cleanliness of the establishment consistently earn positive remarks, creating a serene and artistic sanctuary within a bustling city.

We stayed here 5 nights at the end of December 2019, 4 nights in a Heritage de Luxe room and at the end of our trip one night in a Junior Suite.
The hotel has 80 rooms and there are plans to add another building with 40 rooms to the complex. Hopefully this will not destroy the nice (small scale) atmosphere of the complex which includes 3 restaurants, an unheated outdoor pool, a Spa and a lounge bar. The hotel is not cheap but worth the money although drinks are very expensive in the bar (€5 for a coca cola in the bar, less expensive in the restaurant). One of the 3 restaurants is very expensive but considered a unique experience.
Staff (appr 300 employees) is very friendly and helpful.
The Heritage de Luxe room is spacious and nice. The Junior Suite is extremely nice. Without doubt it is worth the additional costs compared to a Heritage de Luxe room. Much more spacious (especially the bathroom), a very nice atmosphere and an additional “day bed”.
In both rooms we had a good bed, very good shower and Wi-Fi. Both rooms have a small refrigerator, air-conditioning and a kettle to make coffee or tea. The bathroom is spacious with 2 sinks.
Complimentary bottled water and fruit are provided. Breakfast buffet is very good.
There are several small restaurants close to the hotel were we had nice dinners for around €2 per person.
The city center is 15 min away by taxi (for which we paid €6).

This property not an easy place to get to, but it is so worth the the effort. Hidden up in the hills facing the Himalayas, it offers stunning views of the mountain ranges. Because of its location nestled in the hills, there are hundreds of stairs around the property to get from your room to the many places such as the mediation hall, spa area, yoga hall, and reception area. We spent 5 wonderful days taking advantage of the many activities offered. The experience is both relaxing and invigorating. Our junior suite was private, warm and comfortable with amazing views of the Himalayas. In addition to a sitting area in the suite, there is a private terrace to sit and enjoy the beauty of the property and the view. The staff is so friendly and makes sure you are comfortable. Having stayed at both Dwarika properties in Kathmandu and Dhulikhel, I have become a loyal fan! Can’t wait to return and experience the wonders of Nepal!!

I loved everything about my stay at this Dwarikas hotel. The architecture is magnificent and everything about the spaces created makes you feel calm. The food at each restaurant available on the property was delicious. But most importantly, everyone I came in contact with was extremely pleasant, curteous, helpful and kind. I highly recommend a visit to The Dwarikas Hotel and Kathmandu!

It certainly is a unique experience when staying at The Dwarika's Hotel. From the saluting Security Guard on the door to the very personal attention from all the staff, this architecturally restored building offers one a view into a previous time while staying in bustling Kathmandu. We thought the Fusion Bar was a delightful place to dine and relax your tired feet after a long day and the Courtyard is an enchanting and lush place to dine and sit during your stay. The courtyard pool is small and can be rather refreshing, as not heated, but is beautifully in keeping with the restored building.
However, the Krishnapathan restaurant felt a little gimmicky with the order to remove shoes, wash hands, floor seating and addition of an apron (despite there being a napkin provided) all within minutes of arriving. It just felt far to canteen-like for our taste.
Also, we were in Room 301 which, while huge, was disappointing on so many levels. It had a severe lack of power points, an incredibly slippery tiled floor and a hairdryer that's plug had to be forced into the power socket by Housekeeping to use it. More importantly, since the room ran the full width of the property, it had no protection from outside noise. There was a busy alley down below with the constant buzz of motorbikes and had a tied up dog in the property next door that barked constantly day and night. It was far from the oasis or sanctuary from the cacophony of Kathmandu that we had hoped for or as referred to in other Reviews. We can’t be the only people to have reported this problem with this room. So, I would say, visit this extraordinary Hotel, but perhaps be prepared for less than a 5* experience.

This is probably our favorite hotel we've ever stayed in. The location is super convenient from the airport. The grounds are beautiful and immaculate. For example, the outdoor furniture white cushion covers are never stained or dirty. The rooms are spacious and bathrooms huge. All the restaurants we tried had fabulous food, pleasing to the eye and palate. The pool area is lovely, but it was a little to chilly for us to swim. The real difference with Dwarika is the incredible staff. Everyone is exceptionally helpful and accomodating. I needed to borrow an electric voltage converter to charge my camera battery and they found one for me. At breakfast the one day the buffet wasn't available, the waiter notice we weren't eating cheese, which he had observed the week prior, so he brought us a plate of cheese. Prior to our evening flight out, the hotel allowed us the use of a room for an hour to shower and relax. Everything about this hotel is top notch. Many hotels are lovely, but the great staff places Dwarika into a class by itself.

Kathmandu was a chaotic city but once we stepped through the doors of Dwarika’s hotel, calmness prevailed. Namaste was the usual greeting which roughly means
“I bow to you, equivalent of saying hello but with respect”.
The hotel was known for preserving decorative wood carvings from ancient buildings being torn down.
The UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award for Culture Heritage Conservation was given to this most deserving hotel.
The junior suite was beautifully appointed and very spacious.
The gift shop contained beautiful cashmere clothing, interesting books, pottery, stationery, and jewelry. We bought most of our gifts from this store.
The buffet breakfast was wonderful!
Achyut Neupane was our favorite server, always a smile on his face.
The Sherpa soup was absolutely delicious. It was fun to try Nepali dishes at their main restaurant.
We hired a driver arranged by the hotel to take us to Thamel, Boundhanath Stupa and Pashupatinath Temple.
The airport was 2 km away and cost about 500-600 rupee.
Many hotels are not memorable but the Dwarika is an exception. The hotel staff was exceptional as was everything about the hotel.

This hotel is incredible!!! Upon entrance you are greeted with a refreshing towel and hot tea. Check in was very fast and smooth. The rooms are extremely large and very comfortable. The grounds are beautiful. You may think that you are staying at a palace instead of a hotel. The breakfast was great with a large selection to choose from. The service was exceptional. Normally I don’t mention names in my reviews; however, one staff member deserves it. Shiva was a perfect example of staff leadership. He was always available to make our stay memorable. He was very courteous, friendly, knowledgeable, and very professional. Also, the entire staff always went out of their way to ensure our needs were always met with a smile. Their hospitality was greatly appreciated by my wife, daughter, and me. It was a fantastic stay.

From the moment you arrive, you know you’re at a special place. This hotel should be put in the same category as La Mamounia, The Plaza, Del Coronado, The Ritz.
The entire staff; front desk, servers, housekeeping, security, just can’t do enough for you. Ram Chandra Gajurel was always at the front of the house to make sure we had everything we needed. By the end of the week, we felt like family.
The accommodations are magnificent. An old grand hotel full of antiques & hand crafted art work. Most people prefer staying in the main building but we liked our room in one of the smaller buildings. Very cozy & private.
We very much enjoyed the food & ate most of our meals there. Their menus include everything from Continental cruising to Nepalese to Japanese. Don’t miss the 6-30 course set menu restaurant. We chose the 6 courses & couldn’t move afterwards!!!
I really can’t find anything wrong with this place.

We stayed for 2 nights at Dwarika’s Hotel. After driving in the dusty and busy Kathmandu, we arrived to the hotel and we were surprised by the beautiful architecture, the excellent service and the great options for dinner.

The room was big, nice, with a nepalese architecture.

You have all the amenities necessary, such as a full minibar, coffe, tea, complimentary water, toothpaste, toothbrush, ironing board, iron...
Absolutely a perfect attention for details.

As for the restaurants, we had 2 times dinner at the Japanese Restaurants and it was very good.
We had lunch at the international one and it was also very good.

We used the laundry and it was impeccable.

Absolutely nothing to comment:) would go back in a heartbeat.

And i guess you notice that i don’t give 5* easily.

Dwarika's hotel is a 5 star heritage hotel in Kathamandu, Nepal worth staying in if one is looking for a good heritage hotel. The architecture reflects very elaborate carvings and Nepalese culture. Staff are polite and very helpful. The hotel Nepalese restaurant offers a very interesting Nepalese dining experience which serves authentic Nepalese cuisine in traditional Nepalese custom.

I hear a lot about climbing steps . Are there lifts to the rooms & restaurants
Answer from Ted997
Boston, Massachusetts33 contributions23 helpful votes
There has been some confusion in the answers. The steps and golf cart refers to Dwarika's Resort in Dhulikhel, which is about 45 minutes outside the city. That large resort is built on a hill, with lots of walking, and is only for the fit. Dwarika's Hotel in the city of Kathmandu is owned by the same people, but is completely different. It is a city hotel, and does not have any particular walking involved. The restaurants are on the ground floor, and just have a few steps, and most people eat outdoors in the lovely courtyard. The hotel consists of multiple buildings grouped together, so just confirm that their is an elevator convenient to your room if you have mobility issues.
