We are an independent Backpackers Hostel located in the heart of the sacred and mystical town of Swoyambhu (MONKEY TEMPLE) Kathmandu. The Sparkling Turtle Backpackers Hostel offers a unique opportunity to live among Holy Monkeys and to experience the vibrant chanting of the Monks prayers from the many monasteries that surround Swoyambhu. We offer clean, affordable and safe accommodations for all those who have come to explore the endless beauty that Nepal has to offer. You will find a friendly and comfortable atmosphere to connect with and share stories among other travelers. After a long day of sightseeing and traveling come and relax in our Chill out Turtle Cafe . We have an Nepali salad bar designed by our Chef, as we know that it can be challenging to consistently eat local foods. A definite refresher for those who are traveling long term through Nepal and India! Our Cafe includes locally grown Boutique Coffee,. We can arrange for in-expensive airport pick up.

I only stayed for two nights because I had to go, but when I come back to Kathmandu I will definitely come back to the Sparkling Turtle. The breakfast and dinner were good and the owner + other working persons were really helpful and kind. The wifi is good and the location as well. It’s near some beautiful temples and Monasteries.

Nice rooms, very friendly and helpful stuff. I had a great guide (Ganesh) for a three day trekking tour, which was organized by the hostel. Prices for food are good and the food is very nice. WiFi works well. There is a nice balcony and a terrace. The monkey temple nearby is quite nice. A good place to organize trekking tours and to meet people.

Me and my friend had a really good stay. The staff was super friendly and really helpful. We were in the mountains for 4 weeks and could leave are bags behind, they called a taxi when needed and they helped us to sort out everything for our trip to Annapurna and Mount Everest basecamp.

Fantastic hostel. My trip to Nepal was my first solo backpacking trip and my first time in Asia so I was feeling a bit overwhelmed arriving in Kathmandu. As soon as I arrived at the Sparkling Turtle Hostel I felt at home as both the staff and the guests were friendly and welcoming. I stayed in Nepal for nearly a month, travelling to the Everest region for 2 weeks trekking followed by a week in Pokhara. I used the hostel as a base, returning after each trip. The hostel owner, Pawan, made the whole month easier, arranging all my travel and got me the most convenient flights in and out of Lukla, saving me hours if not days of waiting around. Even while in the mountains Pawan was my guide on the other end of the phone! As well the travel help the hostel was clean, the food was great, and I met some great people. Hopefully I will make it back to Nepal and will definitely be staying with Sparkling Turtle Hostel again.

I stayed here waiting to get a ticket to BesiSahar every day the people who worked there said they would get me a bus ticket, everyday they said they were sold out. After 4 days I thought something was up and walked to the bus station to find the minivans ran everyday and didn't use tickets, just turn up. I got bitten lots in bed at night and asked them to spray bed and they said no. The place is 3.5km from Thamel, 40 minutes walk. Over my 5 nights my private room wasn't cleaned or new towels/sheets.

Namaste Thank you for your kind review, As you mentioned that we didn’t manage u a bus ticket for Few days is not fair because you have said to stay with us for four days and you always said to go after 10 and most of the busses leaves at 7 to 9, As I can assure you that our all beds and rooms are bug free and still it’s winter time there is no any bugs in winter if it was summer I could believe you, For the rooms we didn’t cleaned for 5 days you said is in every hotel you need to tell the reception to clean your room otherwise we never open your room without any permission from you, Any way thank you for the review We wish to serve you in future and let you feel better. I came here as a traveller who was feeling a bit worse for wear. An intense month of travelling and trekking in Nepal and I needed to find somewhere to relax and recharge in KTM. So it basically ruled out everywhere in Thamel. This place is a real gem, with super friendly staff, comfortable beds, relaxed vibe and really reall good noodle soups. Thank you guys for the stay and for helping me arrange my travel onwards. I felt like a new person after spending 3 nights here. They also have a nice rooftop with hammocks... And yes, actual turtles too! 🙂🙂

Very Friendly and attentive staff. Support you when planning your treks, organise transfers and give good recommendations. There are possibilities to store your stuff while trekking. Rooms are simple. But big enough and clean. Prices are good. There's also a bar and a small range of different foods. Breakfast is simple. WAs here several times. Always felt good.

The hostel is located just next to the “Monkey Temple”, which is an amazing location for Kathmandu - a bit out from all the dust, but still a walking distance to Thamil thru a nice buddhist district. As well as just next to the ring road, where the tourist buss stand is located just 10 min down the road. The place has a nice balcony common area as well as a great rooftop to hang out. Stuff is really helpful with all you might need - from booking tickets, to renting equipment, to giving local tips and sorting airport transfer. Rooms are clean and safe, I used the delux private room which is great value for money. Included breakfast is a nice add on and I would suggest also the kitchen in general (amongst other loved the veg burger 😋) Stayed here before and after trekking & will come back again. Warmest thanks Turtle for your warm welcome!

We stayed there for a total of 7 nights, back and forth between trekking and sight seeing. The service we had was incredible, they helped us with our trek to Everest base camp since we did it without a guide, the booking of our flight to Lukla and suggested good places to stay throughout the trek. They even arrange transportation to Kathmandu airport. We could leave stuff for storage free of charge and safely. You can rent sleeping bags and trekking poles directly with them for a very reasonable price. Clean rooms and good food !
