Shivapuri Heights consist of three Cottages perched on the hillside above Budhanilkantha, with stunning views over the valley. They are a million miles from Kathmandu, but luckily only 30 minutes by taxi and a short uphill walk. As a secret getaway for families, romantic couples, or a relaxing break from Kathmandu, they're hard to beat.

After a few days spent in Thamel, it was so wonderful to spend time surrounded by serenity and nature. The amazing view is worth the climb! Steve the owner was welcoming and knowledgable, and the staff (particularly Ramita the manager) were all really lovely and helpful. We really enjoyed every delicious meal, a mixture of Nepali and Western, often fresh fruit/veg/herbs from garden and the staff accommodated various dietary requirements. We particularly loved the convivial atmosphere and spending time with other guests at mealtimes/in the evenings. We noticed that Shivapuri was more eco friendly than other hotels in Nepal that we’ve stayed in eg. they use a water filtration system rather than plastic bottles. Thanks for a great stay!

I spent the last weekend of my Nepal trip here with my Son, Daughter-in-Law and two grandchildren. They had been here before and thoroughly recommended it and I wasn't disappointed. We booked the larger cottage with two upstairs bedrooms and a downstairs one with a huge central living room. We arrived lunchtime and had lunch prepared for us which was delicious. Steve and Neeru the owners are really welcomimg and friendly as is Ramita who manges the day to day running of the property. Prior to dinner we booked the jacuzzi which was wonderful and relaxing. Dinner was arranged for 7pm where we met with other guests for a drink around a chimenea fire before dinner. After dinner we headed back to the cottage and sat in front of our own log fire admiring the night views over Kathmandu. We had a late breakfast the following morning and walked up to the nearby Stupa. We were able to get a lift provided by the Cottage back into the outskirts of town to pick up a taxi to take us home.

We ‘glamped’ at Shivapuri Heights after trekking to Annapurna Sanctuary for 13 days, and it was the perfect place to rest, relax and get caught up on sleep. We spent 3 nights enjoying the great views, comfy accommodation and wonderful food. Hosts Steve and Neeru are warm, welcoming and the source of great information about the area. It’s an adventure climbing the narrow and steep trail to reach Shivapuri, but it’s totally worthwhile for the clean air and amazing panorama. Seriously, pack very light and prepare to enjoy!

This was our second time staying at Shivapuri. The cottages are a homestay in the hills with great views. We use the hot tub and enjoy the view from there. The food is delicious and my kids love the Nepali food and how warm the staff are to them. The view from the terrace is amazing while you eat. On our last visit, we were there for Diwali and enjoyed the ceremony, the staff lit a fire for us as we sat outside our cottage and watched the Tihar lights over the valley drinking wine after putting our kids to bed. You get a view over the valley from the cottages. The terraces are full of fruit and veg used in the kitchen and are interesting and beautiful to see. We will definitely be back for the views and a great spot to have dinner and relax.

Where to start with Shivapuri! From the moment you arrive you are greeted with smiles from Ramita, fresh towels and delicious mint lemonade - pretty sure both are from their gardens. We were a big group of women all meeting for a celebration. The place, the staff - everything was just absolutely amazing. Everyone was treated with the utmost respect and care. The view is outstanding. I could sit there for days and it would never get old. We stayed in the Poinsetta Cottage and Jasmine Cottage. Very comfortable, very roomy. The beds are huge - could fit 3 people if needed and one bed we did! We stayed for 2 nights which included breakfast. Not just tea and eggs - fresh fruit, granola, milk yogurt. Dinner, the same. It is not included and we had dal bhat each night - soooo much food. To say it was delicious doesn't even do it justice - it was fresh, healthy, sastifying and we all couldn't stop eating! Ask for orange cake - you won't be disappointed! Shivapuri is an exceptional experience everyone should have. I usually just stay in hostels or with local families so this was an extra special treat for me as well. The Nepali women I traveled with fell in love. Do not hesitate to book! You will not regret it - trust me. We didn't try the jacuzzi and one thing to note is there are stairs leading into Shivapuri. It is on the mountainside so stairs are a given. We had one lady who uses crutches and their staff completely helped her. They went above and beyond for all my friends, but took extra special care with her. I love this place and staff. Dheri dhanyabaad and pheri bhetaula!

The place is so lovely. The view, the ambience, the staff, the dogs, the service, the amenities....you name it! A home away from home as my sister calls it! Didn't feel like I was away in a resort but felt like I was in the comfort of my own home! Loved Max and Lotte, the 2 dogs at the cottage! They are super friendly!

We stayed with two other families for the weekend at this amazing place. Two thumbs up for the great hospitality from the owners and the staffs, warm ambiance (feels like we were staying at a friend's beautiful house), cool facilities, especially the jacuzzi that drove our children super excited, delectable home cooked food, and the beautifully appointed rooms in which we stayed for the night, i.e. Poinsettia Cottage and Bougainvillea cottage. Super recommended!

Shivapuri heights is a wonderful place to stay. Very accessible from Kathmandu and incredible views over the valley. But apart from being in a beautiful hillside location, the hospitality is superb. Dinner on the terrace is a delight, both in terms of the food and the experience. The staff are very friendly and go out of their way to create a unique experience. The tent I stayed in is excellent value and very luxurious. There’s a whole mini kitchen and bathroom attached, and the tent itself is huge, comfortable and has a fantastic view! Thank you for such a great stay. I’ll be coming back for more than 1 night next time! Alistair

I really had an amazing stay in Shivapuri's new glamping tent - I honestly couldn't recommend it enough! Pros: Electricity and a fan in the tent Private bathroom with great shower Beautiful view from the tent Privacy Great food Genuinely lovely hosts Easy to meet other guests Peacefulness - out of the hustle and bustle of central Khatmandu Free water, teas, coffees and popcorn Options to go hiking, take cooking classes, do yoga etc Jacuzzi Being in nature, surrounded by trees 2 cute dogs roaming around Great breakfast with your choice of omelette and fresh fruit, cereals and yogurt Cons: Dinners were a little expensive by Nepali standards and there weren't many other restaurants nearby. The portions were huge though and it included a desert. Thank you Steve and all the other staff - you were wonderful!
