Shivapuri Heights consist of three Cottages perched on the hillside above Budhanilkantha, with stunning views over the valley. They are a million miles from Kathmandu, but luckily only 30 minutes by taxi and a short uphill walk. As a secret getaway for families, romantic couples, or a relaxing break from Kathmandu, they're hard to beat.

A really wonderful two day stay which I wish could have been longer.
We were there on my birthday and I had the most perfect relaxing day, starting with the best breakfast we'd had in our two week trip to Nepal. Followed by one of the best massages I've ever had, a delicious lunch on the terrace outside our room, a jacuzzi at sunset overlooking the Kathmandu city valley, then the most delicious dinner shared with the other guests. Simply superb.
My partner and I decided to end our two week trip to Nepal here as it was a great location to get into Kathmandu if there was anything we felt we'd missed at the beginning of our trip, but we loved it at the Cottages so much we just spent the two days there. A walk to the local monastery and some of the most stunning religious paintings I've seen, filled the first day beautifully.
The owners Steve and Neeru were consummate hosts, and Ramita the hostess of the cottages was simply brilliant. The whole team worked so well together, were incredibly helpful, the food was delicious and different each night and we were looked after brilliantly.
I loved the relaxed atmosphere, homely sense of the cottage, eating with the other guests, having a cottage to ourselves. There were so many things to see and do in the Shivapuri area I'd love to come back to do more of the walks, take one of the guided days into the nature reserve and spend more time relaxing in the jacuzzi.
As we'd been trekking I was a little worried about getting up to the cottages with my pack, however they offered to send someone to meet our taxi and carry our bags! This was such a wonderful service and reflective of just how the team was set up to enable us to enjoy our stay to the max. Oh and they gave us hotwater bottles each night! Such a welcoming, caring touch.
I was so busy relaxing and enjoying myself that I forgot to take as many photos! Watching birds from the bar, walking along the paths amongst the beautifully tended gardens and vegetables, playing Tigers and Goats at the little table outside our cottage overlooking Kathmandu, chatting over dinner to Neeru and Steve, laughing with Ramita, enjoying JBs food. It was all very special and warm and a true treat to stay here.
I loved this place and it is one of the highlights of my whole trip.

This place is like being in a small paradise and you hardly believe it's so close to the busy Kathmandú. To get to this beautiful place you'll need to do small trekking but the reward is absolutely worth it. It's the perfect place to finish your tour through Nepal and relax after having a Nepali adventure in the mountains.

Neeru and Steve offer services like massages, yoga, hot tub, and small walks around. The best Dal-Bath in that country is definitely in Shivapuri Heights Cottages, their food is absolutely delicious, the staff will make your stay pleasant, they'll help you with anything you need and always with a smile and that kindness so proper of Nepali people. Perfect place to go with family, friends, your couple, and even your pets.

We were there during the pandemic days and it's for sure a safe place, all the staff is clean and wear their masks and most importantly it was never crowded, there's a lot of space and fresh air, we even forgot all this pandemic scenery was happening out there. And our last recommendation: Go, you're gonna love it!

General:
My fiance and I stayed here for four nights of R&R after two hard weeks of trekking and we absolutely loved it! Steve, Neeru, Ramita and the whole team could not have been more helpful. Even the pet dogs are super friendly!

Location:
The accommodation sits in its own grounds on the hillside at the northern end of Kathmandu. The final section of road up to the cottages is a bit of a work in progress but it's well worth the bumpy ride. Each cottage is surrounded by gardens (flowers, trees, vegetable patches etc.) and has plenty of open space.

Activities:
We did it all - yoga, local walks, massages, manicures - but there were two main highlights...the hot tub and the party for Holi festival (organised by the Shiva Puri Heights team). The staff put in a lot of effort to cater to our needs and we never lacked in things to do. Any 'additional' activities (yoga, massage, hot tub, mani/pedi) were easily arranged by the staff and came with a small additional cost.

Food:
Food is excellent although there is no 'menu' - you eat the same dish that has been cooked for everyone else (they are happy to cater to any specific needs). Taste and quantity of food were both awesome and we never went hungry!

Summary:
Our stay here was a real highlight of our trip. The setting and surroundings are super relaxing but it was the staff (and the dogs!) who really made the difference. We'll be staying here again when we're next in Nepal!

At first instance, you would not want to leave so close to kathmandu to view kathmandu! But then, this cottage style resort located in Shivapuri is an absolute hidden gem. You can reach there within 45 mins from anywhere in kathmandu including traffic.
Run by a British-nepali couple who have high experience in hospitality, this is a must visit in kathmandu.

Read below for the extraordinarily unique features!

UNIQUENESS:

They have a open air jacuzzi with wide open views of kathmandu. I havent seen one like this around! Enjoy this fully with some cocktails! Also, located in shivapuri, the views are spectacular! You can also go for a day package!

Room:
The rooms are of different sizes including cottage styled living for families. Bedding isnt business class, however its very comfortable for the price you will be paying which is very reasonable.
Bright rooms with open views everyhwhere

Food:
The dining facilities are very nice. With staff over 20 yrs of culinary experiences, you can expect a traditional Nepalese styled meal or european cuisine depending on your taste. Dinner with thrilling views of kathmandu. The mustang aloo was a let down but rest was very delicious.

Service:
The staff have been trained with high standards and show courteous hospitality. All of the staff were to their standards during my stay.

Price
You CANNOT FIND a better deal with all these amenities!

Dogs
They have 2 very friendly dogs.

This place is definitely understaffed, the meals, the main hot tub attraction and other amenities are definetly not as good as you would expect for what you're paying.

If you are a vegetarian, you would want to pack some food for yourselves since all you get here is hashbrowns and toast for breakfast.

They charge us rs.500 per person for the hot tub experience and they stared that they clean and flush out the water after every session from every guest, but we were given the same water, with dirt floating around and who knows what else.

Definitely expected better and disappointed with the service given.

After a few days spent in Thamel, it was so wonderful to spend time surrounded by serenity and nature. The amazing view is worth the climb! Steve the owner was welcoming and knowledgable, and the staff (particularly Ramita the manager) were all really lovely and helpful.

We really enjoyed every delicious meal, a mixture of Nepali and Western, often fresh fruit/veg/herbs from garden and the staff accommodated various dietary requirements. We particularly loved the convivial atmosphere and spending time with other guests at mealtimes/in the evenings.

We noticed that Shivapuri was more eco friendly than other hotels in Nepal that we’ve stayed in eg. they use a water filtration system rather than plastic bottles.

Thanks for a great stay!

A beautiful, quiet, place in nature, but still close enough to access Kathmandu city! Beautiful landscaping, fantastic views. We stayed in a tent and it was a great experience- very comfortable inside, clean, and everything we needed. The food was homecooked and absolutely amazing and fresh. The owner Steve was always available to chat and give advice. Remina (hope I have her name correct) was always checking in to make sure everything was fine in our room and we got just what we wanted to eat. Loved our stay!

Great place to visit for a quick weekend getaway from Kathmandu. The rooms were beautifully and very thoughtfully appointed with huge windows from which to enjoy the sweeping city views. The resort is set into the hillside with terraced gardens growing exquisite flowers and organic fruits and vegetables. All of the staff were extremely hospitable, especially the manager who we absolutely adored. She and the team went above and beyond to make us feel both at home and completely looked after. The food was particularly delicious, some of the best Nepali dishes I’ve ever tasted, expertly cooked by the long-serving chef who masterfully accommodated my vegan friend. And the spa, hot tub and plunge pool were the icing on the cake. Will be recommending to friends and returning myself. I’d suggest minimum 2 nights (I wish I could have stayed for a week) but likewise would pop there for a weekend lunch with a bunch of friends or a spa date.

I spent the last weekend of my Nepal trip here with my Son, Daughter-in-Law and two grandchildren. They had been here before and thoroughly recommended it and I wasn't disappointed. We booked the larger cottage with two upstairs bedrooms and a downstairs one with a huge central living room. We arrived lunchtime and had lunch prepared for us which was delicious. Steve and Neeru the owners are really welcomimg and friendly as is Ramita who manges the day to day running of the property. Prior to dinner we booked the jacuzzi which was wonderful and relaxing. Dinner was arranged for 7pm where we met with other guests for a drink around a chimenea fire before dinner. After dinner we headed back to the cottage and sat in front of our own log fire admiring the night views over Kathmandu. We had a late breakfast the following morning and walked up to the nearby Stupa. We were able to get a lift provided by the Cottage back into the outskirts of town to pick up a taxi to take us home.

I stayed at Shivapuri Heights during a weekend trip to Kathmandu. The cottage came highly recommended by a friend, but the experience exceeded the already high expectations. The accommodations are spotless and very comfortable. All meals at the cottage are prepared from scratch, using locally-sourced ingredients. Whenever possible, dinner is taken family-style, which makes for great conversation. The view of Kathmandu and surrounding hills from the patio is incredible. Steve and Nuuri, the proprietors, are excellent hosts. They are knowledgeable about all things Nepal and gladly offer recommendations for exploring the city/country. The entire staff at the cottage, led by Ramita, is very friendly and will go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. If you come to Kathmandu, Shivapura Heights is the place to stay at.
