In a quiet setting east of the city and near the airport - you will not hear it - we camped here two nights whilst traveling to and from S. Luangwa NP. The perfect stop. Sophie and Alfred when out of their way to help us...making calls, copying documents, local advice, etc. The campground is spacious with shade power points... More

This place offers a nice place to camp for overlanders. The camping has nothing exceptional but the reception/bar/restaurant is really great and relaxing. The staff especially Sophie the manager and Alfred are amazingly friendly and super helpful. We ordered food there one night and it is a lovely place to eat. The food (meat mainly) was quite good and the... More

This lodge has a fantastic atmosphere. Warm and welcoming staff and management, a great bar/ restaurant and a spacious well appointed camping area make this one of the best stops for self drivers in southern and eastern Africa. The ablutions block is well designed, with hot, powerful showers and plenty of space. Little touches set this place apart, such as... More

Situated away from the hustle and bustle of the city and about a 30 minute drive to the airport. Should you wish to go into Lusaka, prehaps to visit the market, a taxi will cost you roughly $US 50. Stayed 2 nights in a Safari Chalet, before our wonderful trip to Lower Zambezi National Park and went back to Pioneer... More

Venture to Africa, our travel guides suggested Pioneer Camp for a stopover on the way to South Luangwa National Park, rather than going onto Lusaka. The lodge picked us up at the airport and returned us for our morning flight. The hosts are the owners and they'll do whatever it takes to make their guests happy. The food was very... More

This hotel is a must stay! I can tell you now, This hotel is one of the best I have stayed in. Yes there isn't power some of the time, but thats to do with the government, every hotel is the same! The two owners are so lovely and have done a remarkable job on this place! We spent 2... More

Picked up from the airport and short taxi ride (30-40 mins) to Pioneer Lodge. Chalet was comfortable and evening meal and breakfast were fine. Sophie and staff were friendly and helpful (dogs also friendly)! Well rested and easy taxi ride back to the airport to continue my trip. Much nicer than a city centre hotel and a good introduction to... More

We stayed here on our first night due to the fact that our international flight did not connect to our internal flight. Whilst I had hoped to make a straight through connection and was therefore disappointed at having to break up our trip like this, I was really glad that we did. The lodge is superb. We stayed in the... More

Pros- Close to the airport. Welcoming staff. Great hot showers. Con- Tents are expensive for no electricity… which is becoming more and more of a problem in Zambia these days. I don’t like sleeping with springs in my back. We paid $80 US and I you can find comparable accommodations with a queen bed and in suite bathroom.

In October, we made our ninth visit to Pioneer as a base for our 23 day safari, which Paul Barnes, the owner, organised for us. We had visited Zambia twice before, last year spending a month with Paul and fell so much in love with the country that we asked Paul to organise another trip for us. The lodge is... More
