The location of hotel is good and near to all major businesses. The rooms are big and clean. Staffs are friendly. People can go by walk in the night to near by Clubs & Restaurants. Breakfast is limited to local foods. But no much complaints.Overall I enjoyed staying.

Good business hotel with a very friendly staff and central location. I advise to ask for a hotel room facing the golf court rather than the Main Street at the back of the Hotel. The restaurant offers a great choice of local and international food.

The Metropole location is its advantage where you will walk within 1.5kms to reach all the important places. The disadvantage it has is that it is located by a very busy road. The hotel service is excellent without a doubt. The surrounding neighborhood is an upmarket one. Enjoy your stay at the Metropole Hotel Kampala.

What a disaster, will make a short review as still have had no feedback from the hotel nor have they apologises or even been able to tell us the balance of what to pay.

Let me clarify, we requested for 16 rooms and one conference room for a half day meeting on 27th and a half day meeting on 28th march.

I confirmed our booking and made the payment as was invoiced.

However on arrival at the hotel I am told guests arriving from across east Africa arrived at metropole and were informed there was no room for them,,,,, one such guest, was moved in the middle of the night to golf course hotel who then told him they where full ! Later they gave him a suite,,,,,, only for him to be awoken at 2 am by other guests unknown to him joining to sleep in the same suite . Waking him up as lights where turned on in his room as the switch was on the outside….

I was told that there was no space for us at metrople for accommodation on the arrival to my meeting which is outrageous !! Most of the team I was told would sleep at their sister hotel golf course.

We went ahead with our conference in a very tight room with no curtains thus making it impossible to see the projector screen.

We asked for the room to be darkened and another table added so we could actually fit and work,,,,, as this was complicated, we moved to the room next door and disrupted our meeting to have all move and re set up so we could see the screen on the wall.

In the evening we had a bus that took some to metropole hotel to sleep and proceeded to golf hotel to leave the rest of the group to check in. Am then told 20 minutes later they stranded at golfcourse hotel as that is not where they were booked but golf course apartments !

We get the bus to turn around and pick them up again and move them !

On the 27th I had confirmed a number of times of how the team would be picked latest at 7 am from hotel and taken to metropole for breakfast so we can start our meeting at 8 am prompt.

At 7 20 am, I am called to be informed no one has come to pick them up ! I call the hotel and they say pick up had just arrived ? For me 7 is 7,,,,, not 7 20.

On top of that I find out they send one taxi ! what is this ? they are 10 people ! how will they possibly fit. They where told that half of them wait until the car drops half the team and returns, for this I have no words.

We start our meeting delayed as the team need to eat breakfast.

The conference room is ready, darkened and extra table there as we had requested.

We start our meeting and within half an hour cant hear each other cause the conference room next door has started a meeting with a public address system ! with only a glass door in between . We cannot work nor hear each other in our room.

I ask for this to be turned off immediately and am informed its not possible.

At tea break we get moved to another board room 3rd room by now, which is tiny , does not fit tables and we take it as we have to be able to hear each other as this is the last of our half day meeting before our team flies back to their respective countries.

This has been the worst conference set up I have ever experienced. We have used metropole a number of times before and I have never seen anything like it.

I will say the waitress staff, break tea and lunches have been excellent. The rest of communication , leadership, taking charge of conference and communication the worst !

As i write this for two days i have called metropole for a response to my written complaint and have had no answer, today at 10 am i called to speak to a manager and was told they are all busy and no one can attend to me,,,, i should wait for them to call me.

THIS Hotel is probably a good example of one of the worst hotel in the world.
The prices of the rooms are higher as compared to other parts of East Africa.
The AC's were not at all effective.
the hotel had no wifi connection for at least 80 % of my stay.
To my horror the hotel also informed that I will be unable to call outside the hotel as their lines are down.
I mean which hotel is so helpless that they cant even help to make a call outside even when am willing to pay.
The staff is really rude and not polite at all.
a request for a twin bed was not looked after and had to wait for an hour for the room to get ready even after checking in.
the staff clearly expressed their discomfort caused due to my request and kept making faces and grunting while readying my room.
The bathrooms are small and have no locks at all.
if you are traveling with someone else from office it is a harrowing time to be in the bathroom without a lock completing your daily activites.
Even the breakfast had no eggs and had to get them on special request.
Super bad breakfast

PLEASE AVOID

We stayed here a couple of nights when visiting our Kampala office colleagues.
+ The bed was fine.
+ had internet.
+ staff was nice
+ breakfast was good
+ thai restaurant had good food

- The toilet was very very cramped and had a very unusable design. The water from shower would splatter all over the toilet, toilet paper placement was awkward.
- they only had wired internet in the room, wifi in the lobby. Overall, the internet was slow.
- they used to take away every single piece of towels when we go to breakfast, and had to call them to get anything back before their usual time (which was hours later).

Pros:
- the room size was adequate
- food from the continental menu was good
- internet speeds were good - both in the room & in the lobby
- the bartender was good. he fixed me a non-alcoholic drink to relieve nausea due to turbulence
- i liked the breakfast options which changed daily

Cons;
- nastiest part; bed sheets were dirty!! the bed was well made but i was shocked to find stained & dirty bedsheets underneath. i had to call the reception 4 times & wait for more than 20 mins before someone came to change the sheets. the bed was also badly made up after that but id rather that than stained sheets!
- i tried the Thai food once & gave up as it was too salty
- my room was on the 1st floor but next to the outdoor restaurant. which means i had to keep the shades down otherwise people at the restaurant could have seen me walking in/out of the bathroom!
- shower doesnt have a curtain/door meaning water was all over the floor. you have to be real careful
- i only counted 9 channels..so its pretty boring if you're relying on TV
- on my 1st night guests couldnt sleep as music was loudly blaring from a party next to the hotel

next timei think ill stick to Golf Course Hotel.

I should have written a review immediately after leaving - this is 1 month later - but if I did it would be even worse, since I left upset... Don't write angry, I always say :)
Why did I leave angry? - it took over an hour to check out. I'm not kidding, that's how long it took for them to write up the bill and take money.

Note: i travel very frequently through Africa and Asia, so this review is not written by a "casual" traveler. Your expectations may differ.

Based on 2 week stay in March 2012.

1 star review is based on the following:
Air conditioning: works intermittently and the controls are all in Chinese, which neither the staff nor I understood.
Noise: hotel workers congregating in hallways and parking lot were loud until after midnight and only quieted after frequent polite complaints (well, admittedly, only the first few times were polite :)
Insects: bathroom was infested with ants, took multiple requests before it was sprayed
Wifi: only in lobby, not room
Internet: required cables (no wireless), which were broken
Laundry: $3 to wash underwear - and no place to hang hand washed items (remember this was a 2 week stay)
Balcony: leaked through to room below mine - requiring workers to fix it during my few hours of weekend rest... Unavoidable, perhaps, but dealt with in a very unprofessional way...
Breakfast: really poor, fruit, my main staple, was not just 'un-fresh', it seemed 'old'.
Bathroom: occasionally smelled like a sewer, probably because plumbing was backing up from other rooms.
TV: 6 working channels, no movie channels or CNN

Anyway, I'll stop there. If you are STILL interested in staying at this hotel, I doubt more evidence would dissuade you. I honestly don't mind crappy hotels if I'm paying less, but at this price the problems I faced are unacceptable. Truth is, even cheap guesthouses are generally problem free.

Oh, I will say, it was a very comfortable bed.
