Wonderful place to stay. Spotlessly clean, large well designed rooms mostly with balcony or terrace. Very friendly manager and staff - nothing was too much trouble. Airport shuttle and taxi to the city with good drivers. Excellent breakfast also other meals and drinks. Lovely garden, no traffic noise, though sometimes dogs barking at night! otherwise quiet. Would recommend this place at any time.

I loved my stayed at banda in because felt less like a hotel and more like home. I had the front room with the patio which is really nice for sitting outside. My room was large. Breakfast and laundry service made everything perfect.
The team is friendly , professional and welcoming.

Good guesthouse in Kampala. A peaceful haven in a busy city. Beautiful garden, clean and spacious rooms, good breakfast. It’s not well signposted but just follow googlemaps and you’ll get there. Restaurants and supermarket nearby. Own parking facilities.

We stayed at Banda Inn in early April 2011. We arrived late on a Fri eve and decided to hang out on the patio Sat. Morning. While on the patio one of the gals working there asked for our key to clean our room. Over an hour later we went in to our room.....my entire suitcase was a mess, and everything out of its place! I went through it....knowing exactly what I had because I only brought a carry on for myself. There were 8 clothing items missing from my bag , 3 clothing items missing from my friends bag and $200 cash from my friends backpack...very obvious her wallet was out of place. We went to speak to Kafeero the manager...he seemed distraught and said he would find our things or reimburse us $$ for the items missing....he said this was the policy of the hotel. To make a long story short...we left on tour the next day and told him to contact Great Lakes about our things amd we would come by when back. We called Kafeero upon return and he told us to stop at the hotel and speak with Esteem. When we got here she said they looked everywhere , did not find our things and would not be reimbursing us. She then proceeded to call us BLACKMAILERS !! I was shocked at how we were treated, let alone someone who works there going in our room and robbing us ! All employees were still working there when we returned. There are many nice reasonably priced, SAFE hotels to stay at in Kampala.....do not stay at Banda Inns !!! Lock your things if you do and don't let anyone go in your room. This was a terrible way to start our time Uganda, a wonderful country and many trustworthy honest people. Everything stolen from our bags were newer and totaling over $300 not to include the $200 cash stolen.....definitely not worth the $75 a night room at Banda !!!

I stayed at Banda Inns while doing some consultancy work with a water sector project in Uganda. It was great to find somewhere to work with power 24/7, as the electricity situation in Uganda is fairly dire at the moment. Having the internet at close hand also made things really easy.
The staff are great and fuelled with tasty chicken and rice I got lots of work done! Back in the UK now and wishing I was working from the shaded garden terrace…

Banda Inns is a nice place to stay for a few nights. The garden is an oasis - a great start into the day having your breakfast on the cozy terrace with a nice view into the nicely arranged garden. We enjoyed going for scrambled eggs and omelettes every morning and the staff was very nice. One day there was a darker wholegrain bread/toast, which was very delicious. The Internet is working perfectly. The rooms are okay, working for the hospitality industry myself I would renew/fix a few things, but to be honest I have expected less. After the first night we got a more comfortabel moscito net which was a very nice geste. What really was a pitty, is that it one day took ~3 hours until our room was cleaned, but the dustbin for example was not emptied, there was no toilet paper and the towels were forgotton. The fan in the room is very strong but also very loud. The furniture on the terrace could be renewed (the cushions) a little aswell. This are not big issues at all but could be avoided. If possible make sure that the Askari opens the door when you get back home at night.. depending on his mood the dog can be a really good watchdog ;).

Response from BandaInns, Owner at Banda Inns
Responded Jun 14, 2012
Dear Kenegy Thank you very much for your constructive feedback. 1. We pride ourselves with good housekeeping. It is highly regrettable you experienced slow and sub-standard cleaning during your stay. Banda Inns will revise it's housekeeping procedures and improve the staff training to make it consistent. 2. Banda Inns have different fan types mounted on the wall and for the table. We are aware that some of these fans are a bit too strong and will replace them within the shortest possible time. 3. Some of the furniture on the balcony has just been replaced, however Banda Inns will continue to replace the older furniture over the next few months. Innkeeper Steven

The owner of this B and B is Steve. He is half Ugandan and half Norwegian. A really nice, honest man who will look to try to accomodate you and make your stay as comfortable as possible. The rooms are very simple (as is true for most mid range budget places in Uganda). But the rooms are clean. There is running hot water. Note that he location is slightly out of the city and is a $6 taxi ride (called special hire) into downtown. This is also a plus becuase it is very quite. The clientelle seems to be mostly foreign NGO types. There is wireless internet for free. The cook, Rose, is also pretty good and will prepare a full entree (tilapia or spagetti with meatballs) for $6. There are good restaurants within walking distance; for Italian go to Cafe Roma and for Indian go to Indian Summer. Note there is no street sign for this B and B and is hard for a taxi driver to find. I would stay here again.

ETHICAL TOURISM? We were deeply troubled by the working conditions of staff. We stayed for a month and LOVED this guest house - it's clean, peaceful, homely and the staff are second to none. HOWEVER, in the month we stayed there, the three women who work SO hard to meet the needs of all the guests, never had a single day off. They work for three or four months at a stretch without a break, even though they are all married and have children. We raised this issue with Steven the owner [ who is an extemely helpful host! ] and he says he is aware that this is not ideal. We would very much like to return here next year........? We hope there will be more staff to carry the workload...? If you are concerned about ethical tourism please raise this issue with Steven as we did.

I stayed at Banda Inns on my first visit to Kampala this past August. The property is really quiet and beautiful, the staff are lovely, the rooms are spacious and clean, the showers are hot, and the internet connection is good. The breakfasts on the terrace were especially nice. The place is really affordable (especially in comparison to the ridiculously expensive place we stayed later, downtown, where there was no hot water ...) and is above the pollution and noise of Central Kampala (though maybe not so convenient, unless you have a car). My only complaint at the time was that they were doing construction to add additional rooms, which made for some noise and dirt during the day. But once the construction is complete, I expect that Banda will be even more fabulous. (Amy Hill, Center for Digital Storytelling, Berkeley, California, U.S.A.)
