Superbly located and nestled on the Nakasero Hill adjacent to the site of the former Mamba Point restaurant next to the regional headquarters of Britam Insurance, Ericsson, Norwegian Embassy and Nakasero Hospital. It is also in close proximity to South African, Indian and Nigeria Embassies. Urban by CityBlue is a veritable oasis of calm amidst the mayhem than can be Kampala. And yet, Urban by CityBlue is only 5 minutes’ drive from the city center, Kampala Golf Club, Major malls (Acacia Mall, Garden City and Oasis) where you find all major banks, Airlines, Tours and Travels, Forex Bureaus and Supermarkets (Multi-National and local).

My favourite small hotel on the hill around the embassies and other international organisations representations. It’s friendly with great customer care with a really great bar and lounge around the central pool. Good lunch and dinner options but closes before 8 so watch out for late check in dining options. The pool is more decorum than actual use although I’d you feel like it, go for it. Rooms are spacious and I had the one with a really large terrasse overlong the internal courtyard where the pool is. I much rather stay here than the 5 star hotels further down the road. A little gem

Best thing about this place is the staff. They made special orders for my room service. Everyone was kind, courteous and polite. The issue is the hotel layout, with every room overlooking the pool and restaurant, there is no proper quiet until 10 or 1030pm. Impossible to think. Also, wifi was functional but not reliable for important international live correspondence.

We've stayed here before. First time was good, second time not quite as good. I wrote a big review of the place. So, you can imagine that I was very surprised to find that this year I could stay at the Kampala Serena for less than I paid here last year. We booked a room for a relative and on two separate occasions we came her to eat a meal in the restaurant Café Mamba. It was disappointing. We discovered that the enthusiastic staff that were here last time had all left. There is still no sign of any management of this place whatsoever and the areas around the pool are now starting to look a bit tatty where the sunbeds have been moved exposing large patches of bare earth. The food was not the best. They have new menus but they contain all the old meals. Surely it could have been an opportunity to change the items on the menu. We had drinks in the bar. My wife had a glass of wine that she thought was awful. I tried and agreed it was bad. So, she ordered a more expensive wine. On a hunch, I had a nagging suspicion about this place so I walked up to the bar where the barman was pouring the wine to find he was pouring it from the cheap bottle that we had already decided was bad. I caught him out. He then started blaming the waiter for having told him to give us the 'house wine'. But, I bet you the more expensive wine would somehow have found its way onto our bill. And, thus ends our four year relationship with this hotel!!

This is one of those hotels that is not fantastic but is also not bad . The service from Staff is good, the rooms are functional and basic. The biggest disappointments were the WIFI and Breakfasts. The wifi kept dropping and I was moved to another room as 202 had no wifi except at the door. The breakfast (at Cafe Mambo) is however a huge disappointment. There is no real cold buffet and only the basics are available. The juices and waters available are luke warm not very pleasant. The hot foods on offer did not look appetising at all. In honesty I had a cup of coffee and chose to pay for breakfast at another restuarant. While my stay was pleasant enough this i not a hotel I would put on my #1 list. My note to the management: treat your breakfast staff to a breakfast at one of the larger hotels, this will give them an idea of how short they are falling of the standard. Also there is no facilities to add a gratuity for good service on the bill. I feel this is important as it does encourage waitrons to up the standard. A special mention to Hannington, your service was impeccable and You are an asset to Cafe Mambo.

The Service has deteriorated significantly since my last stay and no one seems to be the least bit bothered. Transfer arrangements were a mess. They KNOWINGLY used milk that was off to make soup for lunch. The WiFi doesn't work for more than 5minutes at a time.

This used to be a nice, quiet location with decent food and a relaxing atmosphere. I don't know if management changed (sure seems like it based on how breakfast is run) but it has gone downhill. The only upside are the actual rooms are nice and bed is a bit more comfortable than some other places but that is no longer worth it. They play music constantly (and not good music) until 11 pm. They have noisy events which disrupt those who are actually staying at the hotel. Will not be booking here when I come back to Uganda and used to be a very loyal customer. Please, please, please lower the volume of music/stop playing it after 9pm, consider those that are actually paying to stay here and make that experience better. It's really very bad now.

The receptionist tried to give me a garden room in the old wing when I had paid extra for a club room in the new wing. When confronted, she shrugged and said 'Oh this room was available right away so I gave it to you.' The amenities and comfort of the rooms differ *greatly* between the old and new wings. The next time the receptionist saw me, she tried to apologise, this time blaming 'the system' for messing up my room allocation. "We have a lot of problems with it", she said. This is otherwise a decent hotel and good value for money (if you get a room in the new wing). The rest of the staff I encountered were amazing. Shame about the receptionist I encountered.

This hotel used to be simple, comfortable, quiet and clean. I used to recommend it to colleagues. Now it is shabby, with loud music blasting all evening. The cost has increased and the standards have seriously dropped. Not recommending it anymore!

Lovely bar and restaurant area seated around the pool. Set slightly back from main road so surprisingly quiet setting. Good place to meet for a bite and a drink - even if not staying there. Friendly staff and excellent rooms. Recommended for any traveller.
