Nestled on the sleepy Makindye hill of Kampala, set in lovely grounds with beautiful gardens, Makindye Country Club (MCC) is a family-orientated Club that offers "Accommodation, Sports and Leisure"
Star ratings are intended to indicate the general level of features, amenities, and services to expect. This property is classified according to Giata.
Once the mis-communications with Agoda were cleared up (took two calls to Agoda, and another two to Makindye Country Club) we found ourselves in a very comfortable family setting. MCC has an excellent staff on board, and is extremely responsive to any request. The only reason I didn't give five stars is that the food is only mediocre - but considering the modest prices, it was quite acceptable.

I LOVE this place! It has become an oasis for our family in Kampala. For any visitors wanting to find a comfortable place to base themselves while in Uganda, this is a great place to stay, providing beautiful accomodation, an attractive swimming pool, tennis courts, gym, restaurant and bar, pool & table-tennis tables, an in-house masseur therapist. MCC has been recently been reopened under new ownership but has been able to maintain the very things that make it a unique, home away from home sanctuary. On top of this they have Uganda's champion tennis player available on a daily basis for tennis coaching. If you're looking for something exciting to do on the first Friday of every month, MCC have an open-mike, music night along with a wonderful Mexican buffet. It's usually packed and overflowing with music lovers from all over. MCC have also just re-released a new , more refined menu including fish and chips you won't find anywhere else in Kampala and other open deli sandwiches, home-made cakes and 'Gorilla bean' coffee. Our kids love coming up to meet friends, play in their playground, chill by the pool or the tv room. For families based in Kampala, this is a great place to become a member. Come and check it out.

MCC is a very warm and welcoming place on Makindye in a suburb of Kampala. It is a home away from home for many short term and longer term international travellers. It is also a centre for many expats and Ugandan families to hang out and therefore has a lively 'buzz' especially at the weekends. It has a good pool, and safe, fenced off kiddie pool. It also has a small gym which has all the essential equipment, 2 squash courts, volleyball court and a great play area for kids. For those of us without large gardens, this is a perfect place to allow the kids to blow off some steam. It is away from the city centre, and therefore away from all the hustle and bustle...but within easy reach of a taxi to the centre. Staff are amazingly friendly and helpful. For those without kids, there are plenty of spaces to be away from the children too. Highly recommended!

Really nice place with great pool, gym and tennis courts. The room was very nice and spacious but you don't have your own bathroom, which is kinda annoying! Also the free breakfast is quite tame - Some fruit and a dry crossaint!
The staff is very nice and attentive though! And room service is great - The make your bed ready for you to sleep at night.

Our standard rooms have a shared bathroom between 2 bedrooms. These rooms are $70 per night. We also have en suite rooms of varying prices ranging from $85 upwards. The Country Club is a nice oasis in the middle of a very busy city. Safe and secure environment. Good meals and reasonable prices. Twenty hour airline travel, I arrived and needed a good waypoint to recharge. The Country Club fits the bill of a place to relax and rest.

I love that MCC is so peaceful - it really is a much needed oasis in hectic Kampala. The staff are very friendly, the facilities are good and the childrens pool, the park and the large grounds are really appreciated by children who can run around freely and safely. There is the infamous flea market on the 3rd Saturday of every month and a open mic music night on the 1st Friday of every month - two events not too be missed. There is mouth watering home made cake to devour and I really recommend the carrot cake. This is a much needed haven for families and singles who are looking for peace and tranquility. Why don't you try it out?

I have stayed at the Makindye Country Club (MCC) several times, typically for one to three weeks at a time while travelling to Uganda for my work with an NGO. It is hard to find a good mid-range hotel in Kampala, so I was always pleased to return to a serene environment after a long day where I would typically exercise in the gym, take a dip in the pool, dine in the restaurant, and enjoy the use of free wireless internet -- all for a very reasonable price. There is nothing fancy about the MCC, but it has everything you need. What makes the MCC a great place to stay is the community of friendly people that come there. The staff will learn your name and provide great service, while always being extremely helpful. I got to know many of the friendly faces that frequent the club and nearly always met someone new when I stopped for a drink in the bar or watched sports on the TV. All of this makes it a great value and, I believe, the friendliest place to stay in Kampala.
It truly became my home away from home while travelling back and forth from the U.S. to Uganda for several years. I live in Kampala now and continue to use the MCC regularly as a member and recommend it to all of my visiting guests, personal or business.

A big thank you to all the staff at Makindye Country Cub who made my recent training event run so smoothly. Staff were very quick to reply to my email enquiries. I dropped by the club the day before to check everything was in place and so it was. My event started early the next morning and I was super grateful that staff came in early to organise last-minute printing for me and check every aspect of the day. The room was ready and there wasn't much for me to do. That was very reassuring! The tea and coffee breaks were punctual and all the eats were freshly prepared and very tasty. After the event, I asked my 30 trainees to give feedback on the venue and they unanimously agreed it had worked very well indeed. The club has a conference room in a quiet corner of the compound. I plan to hold future training events there. I also stayed at Makindye Country Club a few weeks ago. As a long-term expat, I love going somewhere that I see familiar faces, of both the staff and the members. Service is always excellent, and friendly. I can't wait to go back and stay there later in the month. This time I must remember my swimming costume!

I stayed here for 3 nights as I had meetings nearby. I had the ensuite room 4 in the main building, which is very large, with a big shared terrace, an alcove with bunk beds, and a good size bathroom. Everything was spotlessly clean and there was a small safe. It was cool enough to sleep without aircon or a fan, though as there are windows looking out both front (road) and back (garden), there was quite a lot of street noise and one night a bar nearby played loud music.
The price included breakfast which was a big plate of mixed fruits, toast, and eggs and coffee/tea. I spent most of my time sitting on the cafe/restaurant terrace overlooking the garden and tennis courts and enjoyed my meals there.
The staff were lovely and friendly, and arranged local transport for me. The MCC also has regular evening sports classes which hotel guests can attend at the member rate.
