Checked in for a bit and the first impression was not so bad for the price. Staff seem to be confused as to why they are here in the first place and yes the boss I must say leads the pack. Right in the heart of town and quiet, the place could do with better management. Please stay as far... More

The room was fine but expensive for what it was...then we lost power and the staff didn't seem to care about fixing it! All night with no electricity - pretty miserable. Breakfast was poor. Staff were average - did not help us with our further travels as expected. Only redeemer was a nice pizza for supper. Would not stay again,... More

Staff is nice and friendly and tries their very best to give the guests all the comfort they need. Really appreciated the service. The owner was dictating the staff around, watching carefully what they were doing, commenting everything. This made us feel uncomfortable at times, it wasn't that much fun to relax since you felt bad for the staff in... More

The rooms were totally fine and bathrooms perfectly clean. But despite the notice on the wall behind the till stating "good buffet breakfast - open 6am til 10am" is included in the price, we came down in the morning after telling them we need breakfast at 6:30am to find nothing ready and were told to come back later - we... Whenever I'm in Kampala I always, until now, have stayed at Backpackers in Mengo. It is in a pleasant location and all the facilities are equally functionable (minus the fact that there are NO mirrors in the shared toilet/shower blocks - shaving is a nightmare). Recently they have decided to include breakfast in the price. Great! Buffet from 6-10am. Only... More

Whenever I am in Kampala, I always stay at backpackers, the team are lovely, the prices fair and the accommodation great. After travelling around Uganda this place is like an oasis, a place to recharge your batteries and enjoy chatting with other like-minded travellers. Oh and the food is lovely too :)

I stayed at Backpackers twice: on my way into Uganda (where I was working in Gulu) and on my way out. Both times, I brought two kids with me for medical care at the nearby Mengo Hospital. These kids were from the village and had never been to the city, so it was great to have the space for them... More

saw the place online, checked out of my 30k ensuite in town, loaded up bike & cycled over a few hills in scorching sun, arrived and price is now 52k !?!? although now including breakfast - not amused. Plenty of local places in the centre & nearby offering "self contained" for half the price, felt a bit cheated. Place did... More

Decent accommodation close to the centre of Kampala. Pricing was ok. Although the website says one price, and when you arrive its a different price. Kinda a standard problem within Uganda though, websites not being updated! Staff were friendly, showers were warm! They arranged my taxi to the airport and even found me a taxishare to save me money. Good... More

I spent 2 nights in this hostel in Kampala. The architecture of the building is beautiful and all the facilities are very clean, specially the dorm. It is a great place to meet other backpackers that are starting a trip in uganda or soon moving to tanzania, rwanda, etc. The staff is very friendly, specially a young girl that works... More
