Very friendly staff. You get what you pay for, essentially. My first night there I had cold water (room 701). When I came back at the end of my tour I was put in room 304 which again had cold water but was then switched to room 305 which had warm water (finally!). Was happy that reception was ok with the room changes and understanding about the situation. My friends in room 408 also had warm water. Moral of the story- try for room 304! Beds are very hard- wouldn’t reccomend it if you have back issues or are a hardcore side sleeper. Breakfast had good selectina but I have a sensitive stomach so avoided it. If I could find a better hotel I would, but again, the cheap price was tempting.

I spent almost one week in the Plaza Hotel using it as a base for a tours of Khartoum and Northern Sudan. Both Khartoum and Northern Sudan with its wonderful pyramids are must see sights for any curious traveller and i highly recommend it as Sudan is an extremely friendly and comfortable country to visit at present. The Plaza hotel is past its good time and frankly its 40yrs plus rooms are in bad shape in my view even for Africa standards however the large old somewhat tired lobby and the super friendly and helpful staff, its squeaking lifts and other not so new items make the hotel paradoxically a wonderful sub-saharan africa hotel experience. So unless you are up for a luxury hotel stay (in which case I recommend the sterile modern and clean however boring Corynthia Hotel) this is the place to stay in Khartoum due to its excellent central location (walking distance to all major local sites) super friendly and helpful hotel team and relatively good food. However if you want to sleep comfortably and in clean bed I suggest bringing your own linen, towels, and shampoo. In summary although i stayed in 5 star hotels elsewhere in the world this would be my choice if I return to Khartoum unless there is a new clean boutique type hotel. Moreover it would be excellent hotel product if they did a renovation of rooms and changed beds and bathrooms as well as flooring. In any case I highly recommend Khartoum and Sudan for visiting. Please check the travel requirements and bring USD as ATMs have are not connected to global banking network yet.

Physical facility is run down, but this is a much more affordable option than high end nearby. What it lacks in aesthetic it makes up for in very helpful and accommodating staff who work hard to keep place clean, serve delicious hot breakfast, and meet all touristic needs. Central location walkable to major sights and restaurants. Very pleased with our stay here.

I had the misfortune of spending 4 nights here. The rooms are absolutely filthy. I say rooms, as they moved me through 3 different rooms attempting to find one room where everything worked. None of the AC units worked in the first room (and it was filthy). Only one of 3 AC units worked in the second room, but the toilets were broken (both). In the third room, 1 AC unit and both toilets worked (it was still filthy). The rooms smelled awful, and every surface looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years. Water pressure was awful, with just a small trickle coming out of the shower. Also, the water was brown everywhere. Beds were rocky. Sheets had stains & burn marks. The wifi was quite slow, and stopped working often. Overall, a rather awful place. There are definitely better hotels in Khartoum.

For western standard, this hotel will be rated pretty bad but if you are managing your expectation, the hotel might be one of the good one in Khartoum. The hotel seems more interested in maintaining the public area such as the lobby and not so much on the rooms. The room is really not well maintained and it really need some TLC. The breakfast was pretty standard, not bad but nothing to shout about. The staff were friendly. The wi-fi worked pretty good. The best feature from the hotel is the location. It's well located in the city center but it could be noisy for the room facing the street.
