Welcome to Hotel des Mille Collines The legacy of hospitality in Rwanda for more than 40 years Inspired by Rwanda’s unforgettable geographical terrain, the hotel derives its name from its motherland known as the “land of a thousand hills.” Inaugurated in 1973 as the premier grand hotel of the country and becoming a shelter to, a light of hope in the darkness for a terrified crowd of up to 2,000 people who were saved by the hotel opening its doors in 1994 during the Genocide against the Tutsi; Hôtel des Mille Collines is surely the most famous hotel in Rwanda. Located in the central business district, the hotel allows you to enjoy the breathtaking views over the hills of Kigali while indulging in culinary delights from casual to fine dining, international cuisine to local signature dishes!

Full security check when entering. Nice bar for drinks, dinner outside by pool, very pleasant. Staff all very nice, food very good service good if a tad slow, no worries wasn't in rush, which is true throughout Rwanda. Really enjoyed time spent here.

As a lover of history, I couldn’t deny myself a stay at the Milles Collines. In a prime location, with wonderful, friendly staff, and comfortable rooms, this hotel has it all. I originally had one night booked, but ended up staying for four, as the insanity of being abroad during the Coronavirus pandemic had me changing travel plans last minute. I couldn’t have asked for a better safe haven. I’m sure most people know the story of this hotel, especially if you’ve read Romeo Dallaire’s book, “Shake Hands with the Devil” or seen the film “Hotel Rwanda” starring Don Cheadle and Sophie Okonedo. It has an absolutely unbelievable history and you can really feel it in the atmosphere. I highly, highly recommend booking a stay at Milles Collines if you find yourself in Kigali. You won’t regret it.

Choose Mille Collines in December on a business-trip. Very friendly staff at check-in. Waitresses at the bar and in the restaurant were equally courteous and quick. The food was excellent. Very extensive breakfast, a buffet that left nothing to be desired. Late check-out free of charge. That was great. Shall be there again , when I visit Rwanda next time! JPD from MAN Truck&Bus Germany

Recently refurbished pool is very nice but the Sunday brunch - which is advertised as RWF 18,000 on the website is RWF 30,000 (yes EUR 30 pp) pp which - is grossly overpriced and nothing compared to the choice at the Marriott. We got charged for waters on top of this price since an alcohol welcome drink couldn’t be replaced by water. We’ll be back for the pool but definitely not for the brunch.

Mille Collines is certainly a famous city landmark. But the hotel is holding on to 4 stars by luck alone. Mostly very dated with ok facilities. Food was at best average and as the pool was being renovated we couldn’t use that area. Party noise from Friday night not great either. It’s a pity really...
