This is a beautiful and well appointed hotel. The staff was friendly and the food was wonderful. We only stayed for one night, so I feel like we didn't get to truly appreciate all that the Retreat had to offer. What we did experience was wonderful, though.

Hotel's Favorite
We first discovered Heaven on our last trip to Kigali nearly 7 years ago, so we were thrilled to see that the owners have invested heart and soul in this extraordinary 11-room resort (we also ate at their two restaurants and stayed at their boutique hotel - reviews to follow). Every inch of the place has been thoughtfully constructed. There are incredible teak wood features in every room (from a sustainable teak forest in Tanzania) and a fantastic outdoor shower. Bedrooms are extremely well appointed with fantastic organic mattresses from the UK. Breakfast is essentially a la carte, and I loved the shakshuka. Everyone seemed less at work and more like welcoming family. Vedish, the executive chef, catered to all of our needs and the service team was extraordinarily attentive and kind. We also appreciated the gym space where my daughter and I had a morning workout daily -- it's open-air and lovely. We read the owners' book - A Thousand Hills to Heaven - and are impressed with all that they've achieved. We also used their new tour company - Heaven Tours for a terrific culinary tour of the city. We went to purchase food at the market and came back to the Retreat to prepare lunch with the team - a must-do!

We stayed at Heaven Boutiqe hotel - had a full body massage at the retreat and it was truly amazing! I highly reccomend if you stay here or at the sister hotels. After decades of travelling the world this was one of the mbest massages I've ever had.

I stayed with my mother for one night in July at the retreat. I had actually booked one of their cheaper rooms, but I got a free upgrade to one of their retreat rooms, which was such a lovely surprise! I hadn’t asked for this - I simply booked via booking.com! I am not exaggerating when I say this is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in! It is certainly by far the best hotel in Kigali and I have stayed in quite a few over the past year of living in rural Rwanda. I can not recommend it enough if you are looking for a luxurious experience in Kigali - there’s no hotel quite on their level. The rooms are stunning, with lovely touches everywhere and the best mattress I’ve slept on. There’s clearly been some thought put into their eco-impact as well: the indoor and outdoor shower works perfectly with solar powered hot water. The pool is beautiful, and not busy, unlike some of the other pools around Kigali. Their Saturday and Sunday yoga sessions are also phenomenal (you can even go if you are not staying at the hotel for 5k, a little tip!!). We ate dinner at their restaurant Fusion, which was exceptional. It’s not cheap, but a really good choice for a celebratory meal. Breakfast in the morning was included and extremely delicious and varied, including some fresh-cooked options (buttermilk pancakes with cardamom syrup were especially wonderful!).
