I stayed at the Retreat for a few nights before heading up to Virunga for gorilla trekking and so happy I did. The staff was just lovely, especially Emmanuel who was overseeing things. It’s a beautiful space and very peaceful. The food was fantastic at both restaurants and lounging by the pool was very relaxing. I would highly suggest The Retreatif you plan to visit Kigali! You won’t be disappointed:)
I stayed at the boutique hotel in early March 2021. It is hard to judge a hotel during Covid times and reduced staff numbers. The Retreat is an oasis of tranquility in an otherwise busy city. I was in town for meetings and really looked forward to my end of the day swims in its salt-water pool. Albeit a bit dark, the rooms are large and comfortable and I wish I had had more time to enjoy the private patio and outdoor shower. I'd like to stress the quality of the mattress, exceptional, and the friendliness and willingness to assist of the hotel and restaurant staff, even during Covid times when we were just a handful of guests. The Retreat is now definitely my hotel of reference in Kigali.
What a jewel! What a gorgeous place to stay - truly a slice of Heaven! Firstly the place is just beautiful - nestled in trees and lovely greenery. The staff is excellent - smiling, willing, bending over backwards to accommodate. You must get a massage from Teddy. And we had 3 meals in 24 hours - excellent food Cant wait to go back
Emmanuel Kalisa went ABOVE AND BEYOND to help with an unexpected health concern. His response to our issue was compassionate, competent, and done with the utmost privacy. Emmanuel is an exceptional asset to this hotel and we so appreciate the care he extended our way. Much gratitude, Emmanuel! Polly and Larry Nichols
Upon arrival to Rwanda for the first time, our first stop was Kigali. We stayed at The Retreat for 2 nights and wish we could’ve had more time there. Diane was our server for breakfast both mornings and is so kind and attentive. We had fun doing the culinary experience with Smith (seen in white) to get a glimpse of some traditional Rwandan dishes. The entire team of staff were willing to help you when your server was busy. The rooms were very clean with a safe to use if you choose (but unnecessary in my opinion). Also a bug net around the bed for peace of mind while sleeping, but again, no bugs were found in the room. If you visit, ask for Diane! She is second from the left in the group picture. We adored her!
The experience is exactly as the name promises a retreat by heaven. The entire staff is warm, welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable. Frank was especially helpful to us with any questions and help we needed during our stay in this special place.
We ate here when staying in the attached hotel. Both food and service were superb. The best meal I have had in a long time. It is not cheap to eat here but definitely worth the price charged. A lovely evening...I would very much recommend you eat here.
Beautiful oasis in Kigali. Our server at The Fusion restaurant was excellent on every level.Frank, who both led us to our room and told us about the facilities was terrific. This is a lovely place in every way.
We stayed here and the food, staff and location were amazing. Special thanks to Mbabazi, who was our waitress at Fusion Restaurant during dinner. Her help and services were amazing. Food was delicious and we really enjoyed. Try it out if you stay at The Retreat
Loved our stay at the Retreat. Beautiful, comfortable rooms, each with a private sitting area. On Friday we took in the culinary experience. Off to the market to choose our veggies and chicken. Back to the two hour cooking participative demo. Informative, fun and delicious salads and main dishes. We heartily recommend!!
