Clean, comfortable and convenient to the business district in Maputo. Rooms were a nice size with all amenities provided. Very nice bar on the 16th floor that's ideal for sundowners. Safe area and an excellent Spar shop in the mall adjoining the hotel in case you need anything. Only let down was breakfast. Basically continental although I saw some people with eggs. There were staff on duty but standing around and not really helping anyone.

We had booked this before colleagues of mine in Maputo recommended other hotels. The hotel is clean, secure, and quiet, and the front desk staff were great. Location is reasonably close to the business districts and there is a grocery store next door. The rooftop bar is OK, though in a city with a lot of great views, it is nothing special. The breakfast was pretty dismal, and given how difficult transportation can be in Maputo if you don't have a driver, the staff could have been more helpful in that regard: they called a driver to take us to dinner but then left us to negotiate the price. In Portuguese. If your transportation is covered and this place is cheap, go ahead, but otherwise there are better places in town.

The hotel is newly built, high tech, modern and very clean. staff are friendly and helpful. It is important to know what is included in Full Board and full credit from the outset. Shopping mall convenient located next to hotel. It also has its own gym and indoor heated pool.

While the hotel is beautiful and clean with very nice amenities and breakfast, I’m giving it a 4/5 because of the staff. When I was ordering a taxi to dinner and asked the staff how much I should be paying, they refused to give me any indication and said I had to negotiate with the driver. As a tourist, I’m obviously concerned that I’ll get ripped off, and it was pretty unpleasant to see that staff in this case seemed to side with the taxi driver as opposed to the guest staying at the hotel.

The hotel is well located with easy access and walking distance to many businesses in downtown area. Good facilities include gym access to a world class gym and access to meeting rooms on mezzanine floor. Great view from sky bar. Rooms and bathrooms are small but comfortable and adequate. Lower floor rooms with odd numbers face parking garage. Upper floors with even numbers have Town and sea facing views which are preferable. Simple buffet breakfast Staff friendly and helpful. Good economical and quality place to stay on business.

After a poor experience we wrote to the MD Antonio de Fonseca. He called and was was very apologetic. He explained that he has trouble getting staff to accept responsibility. Despite accepting our complaints he did not offer any refund which was surprising and disappointing. Here is an abbreviated version of the letter I sent him:
The reception staff, in fact all the staff, were friendly and tried to be helpful at all times, but unfortunately, have not been empowered to make decisions when you are not there and unable to be contacted. The day before we arrived we had a message from the hotel saying we should pay with Mastercard. On arrival we were told that only Visa would be accepted. We have no Visa credit cards, only debit cards and this caused problems. Had we had notice we could have transferred funds to our current accounts to cover the payments. The air con was not working in one of our rooms. I ordered a salmon, cream cheese, avocado in filo pastry starter. After ten minutes I was told there was no avocado. When it arrived there was no pastry. After many discussions which should not have been necessary, the price was adjusted. At dinner I ordered Beef Wellington. It was not available. I ordered the chicken and asked for the asparagus. It was not available. The piri piri sauce was not available. I asked for carrots but was served courgettes. The chicken three of us had was inedible. My wife's steak was inedible. The wine we ordered was not available. The staff made no reductions in the bill. In the UK, we would simply have refused to pay, but we did not wish to risk a confrontation with the police in a foreign country where we do not know the Law. In the Sky Bar Dr Schurch had problems trying to sign for the bar bill. One of our party asked for milk in the room and was told to go and buy some in the Spar supermarket next door or pay at the bar. At breakfast there was a buffet. The 'hot' food was cold. The bacon was 80% fat and was undercooked. The scrambled egg was dried out. The cooked-to-order fried eggs were properly cooked. There was no marmalade or normal jam, only tomato jam and honey. We have stayed in Melia properties before and was been happy with the quality and service.

This is supposedly a four star hotel, but staying in it you wouldn’t know. The worst value for money of any hotel I’ve ever stayed in. On the surface everything looks fine, even posh, but scratch slightly and this place is rubbish.
A short list of everything wrong with it:
1) I found a bloodstain on my pillow - they had put a clean pillowcase over it to hide the stain; 2) found a bloodstain on the sheet; 3) the sheets were rough, poor quality, and clearly cheap; 4) the bed itself was hard as a rock; 5) the bathroom had a weird smell; 6) the towels were thin, small and cheap - one bath mat was threadbare and had a hole in it; 7) the wifi was abysmal - slow and unreliable; 8) the light switches are all finicky, but in my room, the one for the bedside light was falling out of the wall; 9) weird stains in the carpet; 10) furniture in the rooms of poor quality - the faux leather of the desk chair was disintegrating and got all over my clothes; 11) the breakfast was foul - the very few choices included: stale pastry, rubbery chicken sausage, gritty scrambled eggs, tasteless fruit, burnt coffee, etc.; 12) the rooftop bar was disappointing - nice view but the drinks were sweet and of low quality and the burger they brought was dry, cold and covered in plasticky cheese with no sauce; 13) turns out the “health club” is the gym next door that you have to buy a voucher to use (about £25); 14) you’re only permitted one 500ml bottle of cheap water per day - when I ran out and asked for more water, they sent me a 1L bottle through room service and charged me 600mzn (£7.4)!!! 15) standard business hotel toiletries weren’t available including shower caps or shoe mitts; 16) no iron or ironing board available
The staff were perfectly pleasant, but this place is clearly being mismanaged. Stay anywhere else in Maputo. I’ve stayed at other places in the city that are half the price but twice as nice.

The stay at Melia Sky was excellent except for the unavailability of coffee in the rooms. Please provide coffee in the rooms - it may be extra costs but it is needed by most people who work through the night sometimes. Otherwise everything was excellent.

We had a conference there as well as staying a couple of nights. Had some issues with the pre payment not coming through and incorrect charge of the final bill, but all was repaid and sorted with minimal fuss, thanks. Felda Nguenha, Events Manager- went out of her way to assist us and did a wonderful job, thank-you.
