I had a work assignment in Bamako for a week, and the local office selected La Coccinelle for me. I could not have been more pleased. The hotel is a relatively small but does not lack for services.
My room was a full suite with a separate bedroom, very large and well equipped bathroom, small kitchenette with dishes , pots and pans, refrigerator, range, hot water kettle. Everything i needed to make simple meals when i was too tired to go out. There was also a comfortable sitting room with satellite TV. The sitting room and bedroom had separate split air conditioners.
The staff are extremely helpful and will do their best to respond to your every request. The pool was kept very clean and was at a very refreshing temperature for the heat in Bamako.
The adjoining restaurant was a limited but excellent menu and very gracious staff.
I always felt like I was staying with family more so than staying ina hotel.
The hotel is on a side street off Route de Koulikoro. Directly across Koulikoro there are a couple of grocery stores for simple meals, as well as beer and wine (to my recollection). There is also a fruit and vegetable market within a 100m of the hotel with a surprizing array of items.
On the back streets behind the hotel are a couple of small bush bars where you can have a drink in pleasant company (watch the mosquitos).
There is an ATM about a Km. down Koulikoro Rd., which works reliably, and several restaurants that are within a very short taxi drive.
My only negative point is the air quality. It seemed very dusty at times in the room and perhaps the air conditionewr filters needed servicing. However, this is almost in the midst of the Sahara so some dust can always be expected.
I would have absolutely no qualms about going back to the La Coccinelle and I recomend to wholeheartedly.
PS: The price was also extremely competative for that part of the world.

I have spent 4 nights at La Coccinelle. I have been in 2 different rooms, and they both were perfectly comfortable. I had to ask for a kettle, and an adapter, but the staff was very accommodating. The A/C worked great in both rooms, but the shower wasn't terrific. Breakfast is a basic continental breakfast, and you have to pay extra for any espresso coffee, which they did not mention when I ordered it. The pool looks great- wish I remember to pack a bathing suit. But perhaps best of all- the place feels very secure- you have to go through several guards and a few locked gates to get inside, but it is a little haven inside. I would certainly come again.

Hotel La Coccinelle is a very good hotel to visit if you are visiting Bamako for the first time, it is safe and secure and rooms are in good condition, the Hotel is situated in the Hippodrome Area. Danny the owner is very friendly and helpful and always available to offer his assistance for what ever you may need. He has been living in Mali for the past 26 years. The Hotel also has a good restaurant that offer a variety of very good dishes. They also offer a pickup service from the Airport.

Stayed in room 52, compact and everything worked well. Originally I had been booked in a different room, but the Wi-Fi didn't work, so best to check before you unpack. Reception staff were helpful and sorted me with a new room very quickly, which I was grateful for.

Some very big mosquitoes in the room, despite the daily fogging and my direct attacks on them, so very glad for the net for the bed, felt great once under cover. A real plus are the shower, top notch, which was great. Rooms had fridges, and new aircon, plus Sat tv, which worked on all channels.

Slight downside is the food, really basic and the waitresses might learn to smile a bit, or maybe it was just me asking for an omelette, that looked and tasted like one, fussy I know. But there are some good resturants nearby, so not a issue.

This is a very basic, garden style hotel, around pleasant landscaping and a pool.
Rooms are relatively small, some are updated, some are not.
The place is clean, well kept, with landscaping, pool, trees, everything works.
Restaurant has lebanese food, of good quality. They even have gin tonic and a bar.
Service is good and responsive. Owners are present and responsive to guest needs.
Neighborhood is mixed, but seems to be safe, near embassies.
Perimeter wall and double door provide some sense of safety in a country coming out of conflict.
Perfect stay for expats that require clean, safe place with good food at reasonable prices. Good for extended stay and for basic business/aid travel to Bamako.
Internet works well throughout, bit slow and has gaps, but that appears to be a Mali issue and not of the hotel.
This is my second stay and I have no complaints. Good value.

The hotel is in a scruffy neighbourhood, though close to the Canadian, Iranian, Netherlands and Belgian embassies and with good security: high perimeter wall with double front gate/door system with a guard outside and more guards checking between the two gates. On checking in I was shown to a ground floor room whose window I couldn't lock. Most ground floor rooms have burglar bars; this one didn't, although I think the wall outside is shared with the Iranian embassy. Having had a bad experience on the ground floor in another country (despite high perimeter wall topped by an electric fence), I asked to be moved to a first floor room, which they did without a problem. Rooms are adequate but not luxurious. Nowhere to sit except the office chair by the little desk. Plenty of electric sockets. No plug in the wash basin. A bath mat appeared on two of my seven days there. The air conditioning worked fairly well - essential in Bamako's tremendous heat! Internet varied from irritatingly slow to impossibly slow. No drinking water provided in the rooms - most hotels will include 'free' water in the room rate. Here you have to buy water from the restaurant. A nice little pool. Pleasant garden with a few seats scattered around. There is nowhere to sit with guests, for example to hold a work discussion, except the restaurant, which therefore sometimes has three or four tables of earnest consultants holding different meetings! The breakfast is extremely basic, but the coffee is good. The Lebanese kitchen provides decent meals at other times of day. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Free transport to and from the airport in an ancient little shuttle bus that is just about still able to make the trip (with no air con).

I spent a month at LA Coccinelle and thoroughly enjoyed my stay even if the furnishings were outdatedand tired. Important though - it's a very safe place to stay. The restaurant on site was quite good and the we're very helpful and courteous. I'd stay there again.

I have stayed a few times at La Coccinelle over the course of a few years. The place is declining in quality, although security has been strengthened. If you go there, expect an African experience and you will not be deceived.

Pros:
The hotel has a decent restaurant and there is no need to go out for dinner. I recommend the Lebanese cuisine.
There is warm water (most of the time).
Front desk personnel is very nice and always ready to help.
The place is sprayed against mosquitos.
A few of the rooms (studios) have kitchenettes. These also have less mosquitos since they are inside the main building.
Bed nets (mosquiteros) are available, when mosquitos are too present.

Cons:
No recent refurbishments and it is starting to show.
Food served at the restaurant is OK and you quickly go around the menu after a few days.
Rooms with direct access outside can have a lot of mosquitos.
Internet is intermittent. Very hard to use Skype, for instance.
