I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. The rooms are like little beach huts and the beds are very comfy. It has a great social vibe and is equipped with a foosball and pool table. The food is delicious as well. The staff are exceptional and helped us arrange a driver to show us around the country. Overall it was a lovely stay and I'm definitely coming back!
The staff was very friendly and helpful in organizing tours for us. The location of the hostel was nice. The margaritas were good. The vibe was really nice and I enjoyed the pool table. We did two nights in the family room which was really nice, although very hot. It would be nice if the top bunk had a mosquito net. I spent one night in the double room and it didn't feel as clean. The toilet had urine stains and looked quite dirty. I had friends that stayed in the dorms and said that there were little bugs crawling on them all night(didn't look like bed bugs) I really enjoyed breakfast , huevos rancheros but one of my breakfast the rice was a hard ball. I had some of their nachos and I wasn't a fan of those but really enjoyed their quesadillas.
Depending on what you want in an accommodation, Madagascar Underground can suit you just fine. We stayed in a private room which was relatively clean, large in size, old mattress, clogged shower drain, and no fan. When we arrived in the middle of the night, there was a very kind, French-only-speaking man to greet us, but he was unable to find us a fan. The room was not expensive and we had our own bathroom, and we were able to walk to many places in the old town, so it was a good value. Also, the staff were friendly, helpful, and bilingual during the day.
We stayed in the double en-suite room which was spotlessly clean. Not a lot of space, as you’d expect in a backpackers. Staff were friendly and helpful in terms of the stay, but to me there was not enough info given or available about moving on and continuing around Mada, something you would expect from a backpackers. Also our transfer from the airport did not show up, so we had to get a taxi ourselves in the early hours (not difficult in the end, but disappointed the pre-arranged one didn’t show). Food was okay, drinks were great, atmosphere was subdued on one night despite there being many guests there but improved afterwards. I guess that’s just down to who is staying. Location is good though, very central, and it feels safe. I’d recommend as a first stop in Tana because of the social element but will probably stay elsewhere if we pass back through. …
Great hostel - I have spent in total 3 nights here. The great thins about it is that the staff is super friendly and that not only you get the opportunity to meet with other backpackers but also local guys. I had also the chance to witness a great concert by local people. The atmosphere was super cool. The hostel itself is also very clean and well located.
