what an enchanting place - with tastefully decorated rooms, incredible views ( sunset!) and lovely staff - very close to the Rova palace. we were just taken by the beauty of this little oasis in Antananarivo - a bustling African town! Everything is within easy reach by cheap taxi - some nice restaurants not far on the hill

We only spent one night here passing from Andasibe to Nosy Be but it was enough to be really impressed. The location is stunning with great views over Antananarivo and the perfect spot for gazing at the sunset. The rooms are beautiful and full of interesting ornaments and decorations. The staff could not have been nicer, getting up at 2 am to provide us with breakfast before our ridiculously early (and in the event delayed) early morning flight and the food generally is of very high quality.

had a dinner here, did not stay a nice sunset view of Tana , but not the best cos the trees do block a bit of the view at the dining area, which was a shame the food is not bad the decor of the place is definitely nice

This quirky boutique hotel is located on the Royal Hill overlooking Antananarivo and is approximately 30-40 minutes from Tana Airport. We stayed there for one night as we transitioned between Andasibe and Anjajavy. It is 5 minute drive / 10 minute walk from the Rova or Queens Palace which offers 360 degree views of the city and had an interesting and chequered history. To access the hotel there are some fairly steep steps through a beautiful garden. The hotel rooms are stacked full of antiques, shabby chic furniture and curiosities. We were the only guests staying at the hotel overnight and this gave us sole access to the balcony above the restaurant terrace offering incredible panoramic views of Antananarivo. The view really was truly amazing and later in the evening during dinner we watched electric storms play out in the Cumulonimbus clouds around the city. We had a large room with a free standing claw foot bath and toilet screened off. The staff offered us any room we wanted in the hotel, as we were keen to have a shower, they allowed us to retain the big room running down the side of the house and use the shower in the room next door. All the rooms are very different and have their own style, the hotel has a romantic, timeless feel. We had a mixed Chinese / Indian tapas on the restaurant terrace at sunset and then later an enjoyable dinner with samosas followed by a Reunionese Sausage Rougail. The menu had limited choice but the food had excellent flavour and seasoning. The breakfast offering was good with wafer thin crepes, bread and pastries and fresh fruit set up in the communal area and you could enjoy breakfast out on the terrace or in the conservatory area with floor to ceiling windows.

The last night of our Madagascar trip was spent at this lovely boutique hotel. We got top room #6. It's a very spacious attic room with 2 comfortable queen size beds and 2 leather sofas and flat TV. Bathroom has reasonable size with old French style tub, that you have to sit inside tub to shower (if you don't want to take bath) otherwise the water will splash out everywhere since there is no curtain around. Buffet-style of continental breakfast including different types of bread, butter and jams, cereals, fruits, juice, coffee, tea and milk. We had boiled eggs which was booked by our travel agent for every breakfast during the whole trip. So I don't know if the eggs is included for the breakfast. I do know at some hotels you have to pay for eggs if you want them for your breakfast. Staffs were very friendly and helpful, very appreciated. Note: 1. For whoever need these two things in the room: there are tea kettle and hair dryer. 2. WiFi works fine in the room 3. This hotel is hard to get to because the high-up location and you have to have a car to get around. However, the view is fantastic! 4. Book low level room if you have trouble to climb stairs. 5. In my opinions, you have to love "old" setting of the house, then you can enjoy staying at this type of lodging.
