The hotel is in a very good location, clean and has the best staff ever. Water, electricity and wifi worked most of the time. Stayed there for 2.5 months and loved it. There are backpackers staying short term and some people staying longer. A very nice mix and indeed very cozy because local friends and family visit the hostel too. :)
Short version: clean, comfortable hostel in great location with lovely staff. Your only best option for the price and services in Addis! I stayed at Martin’s Cozy for 5 weeks while on a business trip. I had one of their brightest and largest room with its own balcony and bathroom. However, there is a rooftop, garden and dining room to work or hangout and meet travelers just passing by Addis. Could be occasionally noisy so have your earplugs. The staff is absolutely incredible and were always available to help, even midnight when I got sick. Everything was just easy and flexible without any hassle or miscommunications: could extend twice, could do the payments in any method and currency I could (this is often an issue in Addis). The place is as a hostel should be - basic, clean, including laundry service, a basic breakfast with great coffee and great staff. Definitely value for your money!…
A nice and cozy hostel not far from the airport. There is a nice garden with benches and a common area in the big house where are mosts of the rooms. There are also separate rooms that have their own bathrooms. Simple breakfast is included in the price, there is no restaurant on the premise but there are many restaurants and shops t a few minutes from the hostel. Wi-fi is quite fast for Ethiopian standards.
I firstly want to say that I found the staff here to be really sweet and helpful. Which is why I so much wanted to write a good review and support the hostel. But unfortunately I had a tremendously uncomfortable stay. Firstly, I left completely covered in bed bug bites. Which was not only uncomfortable but stressful as well. Bed bugs are very easy to carry from one place to the next, so wrapping the clothes that made contact with my bed in plastic bags was not what I had planned upon my departure. Secondly due to the location of my room from the reception, I was not at all able to access wifi unless I walked to the front. My room was also directly next to an outdoor toilet which was quite a stomach turning experience. The room's bathroom window that remains open seems to be a loud speaker for the on goings in the toilet next door. I actually went into my bathroom my first night to make sure that there wasn't a hidden door I somehow missed, and that someone wasn't using my toilet. It was that loud and clear. And lastly, there was staff walking constantly outside of my window throughout the evening which made it difficult to relax. The upkeep is clearly lacking. The outlet next to the bed was also completely hanging out of the wall and the lamp didn't work. Considering all of the rave reviews, I was really surprised by how shabby my room actually was. Again, the staff was lovely, but I would not return to Mr. Martin's nor would I recommend it. I understand, as I experienced myself, that this is a great place to meet fellow travelers. But I don't think that constitutes such an uncomfortable experience.…
We stayed here for 1 night in March. Pluses: 1) Very close to airport (3km) 2) Free breakfast buffet (bread, coffee, bananas, hard boiled eggs) 3) Strong free wifi 4) Hot water 5) Secure- there's a locked gate 6) Very nice garden with hammocks and tables 7) Friendly vibe with other travelers Minuses: 1) It could be cleaner. 2) Parts are just showing neglect. Our room's door handle was falling off; the ceiling was covered in newspaper (I don't know why). The bathroom wasn't in the greatest shape. Overall, for a night or two, it's a good place.
