We stayed at this hotel our first night in Ethiopia and our last and were very pleased with it. The staff was wonderful, the check-in/check-out was easy, and the rooms were very clean. I find the review that mentions roaches to be incredulous--the rooms were impeccably clean as well as all of the common areas. Our first night there I went to the bar for a beer and someone came out from the kitchen with misr wot--lentil stew--for me to eat while I was nursing the beer--how mice is that? The breakfast buffet has both western and Ethiopian food as does the dinner menu (a la carte). Overall, we were very pleased with this hotel.

I found out about Blue Birds Hotel through trip advisor and the reviews were decent so I decided to book. I had emailed the hotel prior to my arrival asking them to pick me up at the airport (which is included in your stay) but they never replied. I ended up taking a taxi to the hotel. When I got there I asked about the airport pickup and they claim that they had sent someone and he had waited over an hour for me but in the domestic terminal. I was puzzled as to why they assumed I would be domestic instead of international but anyway that was the only glitch in my stay. I enjoyed my time at the hotel. The rooms were clean and well serviced. Breakfast had a variety of options including local cuisine and fresh squeezed juices. The staff were very nice and helpful. The location is few minutes walk from a ton of shops, a mall, restaurants, cafes, taxis, public transportation and it's not far from the airport. Blue Birds really is a good bargain for your money.

This hotel is in a class of its own. After spending more than 40 mins waiting for the manager, in order to negotiate a price (sometimes you can do that in ethiopia) he arrived and was somewhat aloof and more interested in stroking his ego. He then attempted to charge me more than what was advertised on the internet. That was the first sign of bad things to come.I was given a room that seemed spotlessly clean but to my utter horror discovered it was infested with cockroaches within the area you make your coffee. I immediately requested a room change and was given a bigger room that i much later discovered also had cockroaches but this time in the bathroom. From the manager going down to even the cleaners they were unfriendly and looked down on me to the point that it seemed they were doing me a favour letting me stay at this hotel. The icing on the cake had to do with the general service. I ordered fish that literally was rotten and delivered to my room after 1 hour. The very next day the food order took 2 hours to be delivered. However, after strongly complaining about this the delivery time improved. To cap it all. If you are not caucasion, chinese or ethiopian dont go to this hotel, they will look down on you and treat you accordingly. There is clear discrimination along those lines. Never again will i pay my hard earned cash to be subjected to such

This hotels is one of my favourite places to stay in Addis. Excellent customer care, good breakfast, free wifi, great food. Can walk into shopping malls around, the commuter train. The airport is a few minutes away. The manager himself is a great guy and will go a long way to make guests feel comfortable.
