Due to the current restrictions to get to certain I needed to adjust my plans to for in a 14daybstayboutsidwnofnthenUK to get to my destination. I completely altered my initial routing and decided to spend it on Addis Ababa. After some deliberation, as I needed a 7 day self isolation, I opted for the Magnolia Hotel over others. This was based on the booking.com deal, reviews, airport shuttles and an area I was familiar with. So how as the first 7 days of my stay been, I hear you ask, or not. Exiting Bole Airport, I found the shuttle bus with ease waiting for me. A note make sure you give the hotel you arrival time. Transfer was swift. Arriving at the hotel to check in I was greeted by a friendly concierge, baggage person who guided me through to the reception area. Warm greetings ensued. Whilst I was expected it seemed the pricing and inclusions were not. They wanted to charge me about 150 dollars more than my booking.com price. Luckily I always print out, as well as have the email confirmation handy for just such an occasion. The issue was, I got a good discount and room upgrade. The matter was resolved, except for the breakfast included deal, which I resolved the next day. A couple of rooms later I was settled in to a junior suite, complete with jacuzzi, balcony, fridge king size bed and bathroom. For the price I and expectations, I was impressed. Breakfast varied, mostly a buffet with an egg station, which met my needs and an a la carte option in the 2 days with no buffet. As I was isolating I predominantly had room service, which was swift, inexpensive and tasty. In fact I also did a weeks worth of laundry and the total price was under 20 dollars for the week in food, coffees etc. They even indulged my britishness of providing me with cold milk for my in room teas. Score As I used to live here, I knew that having a local sim card for my phone would be prudent. The concierge assisted me in obtaining the card, making sure I had the service I needed and I was set to contact old friends, use the internet, when the hotel one was not working so well. I would recommend doing this if you are staying a while, it is inexpensive and easy to top up. All in all I have had a great stay and cannot fault any member of staff. They are all fabulous, friendly and very helpful. I would stay here again.…
The Good: staff were friendly and helpful. Food was Ok The Bad: They forgot my airport pickup...amazing given that COVID-19 travel is so limited. Shower hot water was rarely working. Took ages to get any warm water no matter the time of day The Ugly: Clothing items missing from room and a bit of a 'that's not good' from management but no real follow up. Disappointing. Overall, it is not recommended. For the price, stay somewhere else.
We only stayed here one night, but it was a very comfortable stay and we wish we could have stayed longer. The room was large and had all the amenities a good city centre hotel has to offer--tea/coffee making station, fridge, large wall mounted flat screen tv,plenty of bathroom toiletries. And there is free wifi in the room. But the main attraction to this hotel is the staff. They are all so lovely and helpful. There is also a large heated pool and spa and I would have loved to go there if we had the time.
situated in the Bole district near the international airport, spacious and clean rooms, comfortable bathrooms. The staff is particularly helpful. I had a mishap with a camera that was lost and found later . This was a difficult situation, but it was handled in a friendly way with great professionalism and respect, even though, as it turned out later, the hotel had nothing to do with the temporary disappearance of the camera. Thank you for everything!
The hotel has a good pick up service from Bole International Airport and is located near to it. The first room we had, the jacuzzi wasn’t working so we got moved to another suite where the jacuzzi was working (we had paid a premium for this.) Once moved we were very happy with the spacious suite. Then we got calls from reception about payment of the room and this carried on for 2 days, it was only settled after we called Hotels.com, we don’t know who was to blame for the mistake. The food served here was fantastic, we ate there most days and the breakfast was good and free (not so in all Addis hotels!) The staff were very friendly and helpful too! If you are going to Addis this hotel is an excellent place to stay.
