    Decent hotel but expensive restaurant
This is a convenient hotel for all visitors to N'Djamena since it is just five minutes away from the airport. It has a big pool and the food in the restaurants was quite good. The rooms were clean, Furthermore, the staff was polite and helpful. My only cause for complaint is that I felt that the food in the restaurants was simply overly expensive.
Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to rate your stay at La Residence Hotel. We are quite happy that you enjoyed the location of our hotel, our rooms and the service we provided. Friendly Staff; Spacious Rooms; Great Location; Good Restaurant
I stayed here on two separate occasions. The first time the hotel was busy hosting an international conference and I had an older room in the main hotel building. The second time and for the same price I was allocated a far better room in the newer apart hotel area with a private small swimming pool. Here are my notes: Friendly and efficient staff Close to airport but quiet (helpful for late night/early morning arrivals and departures). You can walk it in 10 minutes Large main pool and lounging area to relax. But water was green so it seems the PH balance of pool not well kept. Small pool near apart/hotel area was blue. Same day laundry service with a very efficient employee. ATM machine (with fee) Ok breakfast. Good international menu for lunch and dinner but pricey. Decent WIFI also in rooms. (Note WIFI in Chad is not up to uploading photos or accessing videos.) Good hot water (but not in early morning or late at night in old main hotel building where reception is. Can arrange airport transport and tours ( ask for Aziz who is terrific. Trained in Protocol and safe driving by Exxon and Baker Hughes. It’s best to ask for his number and make arrangements directly with him). You can PM me for his no. Negatives: Strong smell of insecticide in standard (carpeted) hotel room. Even sleeping with sheets over my head didn’t help much. Second night asked them not to spray my room and left door open for hours to get the smell out so could sleep. I suggest asking for an apart/ hotel room in the newer wing where the floor is linoleum so they don’t spray for insects. The hot water is also more reliable there late at night. Loud aircon (bring earplugs) Aparthotel rooms in annex have washing machines and cooker. The drawback to the aparthotel rooms, however, is that they lack curtains so bring eye mask. There are several restaurants walking distance from hotel—easier to exit from the back and walk 5 minutes to the two Lebanese places. Prices reasonable if booked in advance. Hotels.com offered the best rates when I booked. Just over $108 for one pax. A few days before your intended arrival rooms are no longer available on line and you will need to pay a much higher rate (Euro 150) at the hotel, so book early! I also stayed at the Irrisor hotel and you can read my review. Bottom line, I preferred La Residence.

Nice stay. Getting Better and Better
We have not stayed at the hotel for a long time due to COVID-19, the hotel, according to the words, was practically without guests. The most convenient thing is that the hotel is very close to the Airport. With the opening of the airport, the hotel is doing everything to receive guests at the highest level. If there are any shortcomings, the administration will immediately eliminate them. I had issues with the shower and the technician corrected it immediately. A friend has got room with weak air conditioning and he was transferred to another room without any problems. The pool is cleaned daily. Sun beds and umbrellas are always ready and clean. The social distance mode is observed. The food in the restaurant is noticeably better. You can order food to your room. Once before we asked spaghetti bolognese and now it is in menu. There are new dishes on the menu. The laundry is very fast. The room has a refrigerator and a safe
Dear Guest, Thank you for your positive review. We are delighted we were able to meet your expectations, our team endeavours to give all our guests a memorable experience. We look forward to seeing you again on future occasions. Best regards,

I come to this hotel since 2017. Nice size rooms. Clean and well air-conditioned. Breakfast have a good variety. The supper in the restaurant is out of a different world. I enjoy every meal. The restaurant staff always well as the rest of the staff treat one especially well. I will not stay in any other hotel in Chad.

Really enjoyed my stay at La Residence. Was there for 2 weeks. Room - nice sized with decent bathroom. Had a very small balcony but the AC exhausts there so too hot to use. Great for drying clothes though. Plenty of water daily was provided. Only one bath towel was provided. No shampoo or such, just small round piece of soap. Had fridge, microwave, and stove surface. Had a small clothes washer in the bathroom and I used it a few times and hung clothes on balcony. Bring your own shampoo, etc. Electricity went off for a couple minuets several times during my stay. Pool - very nice. Despite the 40+ degree days the water is somehow kept very cool and refreshing. They have a very small outside gym area next to the pool. Reception - everything went smoothly. They also respond quickly to emails which was helpful when making my reservations. Many of the reviews here seem to have issues with their reservations because they are using a third party site. Just book direct. Worked well for me. Location - next to the airport. A couple places to eat within a short walk, but otherwise need a car to get to anything. Could walk to hotel from airport but upon arrival for the first time (especially at night) it is a bit intimidating trying to figure out how best to get there with all the people in the parking area trying to sell stuff, give rides, exchange money, etc. Even though expensive for a 5 minute ride I recommended setting this up in advance rather than walking. Restaurant - breakfast is adequate with eggs to order. Was busy at the times I was there but not overcrowded. The lunch/dinner menu is extensive. I tried several items over the 2 weeks I was there and it was all excellent! Big portions and you can leftovers to your room. Serving staff are excellent! I will certainly stay here again on my next trip to NDJ.

Ok so this is the best rated hotel in N’Djamena so I was expecting more The hotel is built like a fortress, made to withstand a military attack on the iron gates and has military guard with machine gun outside Inside I would agree to the Motel 6 look with a fancy pool The AC in the room works only as on/ off; the remote doesn’t recognize any other commands The bathroom is extremely scarce even by motel standards; only one small tube of body wash was provided for two nights stay Bathroom drain was clogged and water spilled outside. Since there is no way to call reception from the phone, I had to go to ask them fix it - it took about half hour and the fix was removing the cover leaving a hole in the floor - very unsightly When the safe in the room got accidentally locked I had to go to the reception 3 times over the period of an hour before anyone came to fix the problem Breakfast is a very scarce buffet with very tasty fruits and nothing much Coffee at breakfast comes from a bad coffee competition but doesn’t win the price Capuchino was not available- machine broken The restaurant is expensive on US standards and food is hit or miss A natural juice is 10 US dollars if you pay in their currency and 12 if paid in dollars due to super unfavorable exchange rate they use Fish curry and vegetable curry are both excellent; the house specialty “ capitan “ fish fillet was dry and tasting 4/10 Some of the personnel are very kind others plainly rude All major businesses and political issues involving foreigners seem to take place at this hotel One good comment I have to make : I left my luggage for cleaning after a desert trip They did a great job at a very reasonable price and the person in charge was very polite In summary Do I recommend it : yes, because it’s the only hotel in town Worth anything But really, no expectations I hope they will make a better hotel in town This one is ugly and has an oppressive feeling to it

I am writing this as a person who has worked in the hotel/restaurant industry for several years, and as an American traveler used to Hilton-level service and friendliness. First impressions count and the first impression was the receptionist present at 21h00 when we arrived. No warm welcome, just a form to fill out was given, the experience felt very... administrative. If you are a world traveler, just be prepared to lower your standards and you will be fine. This hotel's architecture and decoration is like an elevated Motel 6 experience. All of the room walls are bare expect for a beautiful painting above the bed. No other decoration in the room. The hallways have linoleum on the floor and a strange color has been picked for the walls. The hotel lobby lacks even fake plants. The word this hotel brings to mind is 'Spartan'. Water pressure is great so is water temperature. I would rate cleanliness a 5. Staff, although friendly and smiling most of the time, can feel quite unenthusiastic. Can't call the reception by dialing '0' or '9', still wondering how to call them. Several attempts to arrange transportation with the 'hotel shuttle' were met with... no answer on the phone, better to hitch a taxi from the airport. The AC in the room is ice-cold, good! The windows in the rooms are fitted with electric rolling shades, unexpected (prison-like?) but efficient for security and heat protection, switch is by the entry door, FYI. WiFi throws you back to the year 1998 when you finally got your DSL line with 500 kbps, yes, 500 kbps, I guess it makes you all the more grateful when you go back home and have 20+ Mbps again. I have not eaten at the restaurant, but the breakfast experience is reasonable but also feels spartan. One time I waited for 5 minutes to be asked what I desired, another time I waited 10 minutes, one time they came right away, that makes an average of 7 minutes to be asked 'coffee or tea?'. Fresh squeezed orange juice is $10 a glass and as expensive are the restaurant menu items, so be prepared to spend a lot. The room was booked on Hotels.com for about $130 with all taxes, that reservation gets you a room with view over the parking lot and evening sunsets, no pool view for that kind of reservation, apparently. Big plus: the pool is half olympic size, great pool to do laps and the water is crystal clear and no chlorine smell, it is very well maintained. All in all, an unimpressive experience for the world traveler, and a culturally shocking experience for one who has only traveled to Senegal before. Everything is different and it's hard to come here with Hilton-level expectations. Good thing people here have a heart of gold and are always willing to offer a big smile!

My room was clean, quiet and comfortable. Wifi worked well. The bed was comfy too. The free breakfast had a nice selection of hot & cold options. Also very close to the airport. They can also help to get a SIM card, which is great. i would stay again.

For nine months out of 2022 I resided at the hotel. I was responsible for coordinating well over a dozen two to four week training programs. I have lived and worked on the African continent for over thirty years and lodged in all types of one and so called five star hotels. La Residence without a doubt based on rooms, customer service, and cuisine is one of the best on the African continent given the economic conditions in-country. All staff are professional, friendly, and ready to assist guests anyway they could. The hotel in my opinion is the best managed hotel in N'Djamena for managing conferences and training programs with significant rooms available for small to large groups. The catering was always impeccable and the food was always great! Florence, Jeanette, and Isador were always present to assist during the breakfast hours and the breakfast was always good with plenty food available both hot and cold. Lawrence the Chef is without a doubt one of the most professional and accomplished Chef's on the African continent and can prepare both western and European cuisine of any type at the drop of a hat and is an accomplished world traveler. The security at the hotel is top notch and the Front Desk personnel are the greatest! This review is a bit delayed but believe me, La Residence is one of the best places to lodge on the continent. I look forward to my return back to the hotel in February 2023. Thank you La Residence for being so accommodating and always making my stay at your hotel a pleasant one. Respectfully. Jerald

After numerous confirmations no one at La Residence picked me up from the airport at 3:30 AM. Instead I had to walk through a dangerous neighborhood at night without lights. The back door security refused to let me so i walk further with no lights Through the neighbourhood which was frightening until I arrive to the front door When I arrived at the hotel they didn’t have my reservation, in fact I gave them my Expedia reservation number, the room number AND The name of the person who was already in the room. He checked in earlier in the day. Somehow The oldest information they wouldn’t let me check in to the room I had reserved. I think it was a scam. Instead, they gave me another room so I had to pay for two rooms All of this information was presented to EXPEDIA. but, Expedia refused to refund me the money because the hotel refused to reply… Such an incredible experience.

Responded Oct 3, 2022
Dear Mr Gorab, Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback regarding our hotel. I am certainly disappointed that your welcome was not all that it could have been. I would like to apologize on behalf of the hotel and its team for your welcome. The problem encountered is certainly not typical and I will be sure to raise your experience with our entire service team as a training exercise. At the same time, you were not charged for the 2nd room allocated to you the night of your arrival and when you canceled your first reservation of 09/23 to 09/26, I also assure you that we have proceeded with the reimbursement authorization as soon as receipt of the Expedia notification. Last but not least, I would take pleasure in welcoming you back so that you could experience the hotel as it was meant to be. Please feel free to contact myself directly if you are traveling to N'Djamena again so that I may personally take care of you and your next stay. Once again please do accept our apologies and we do hope that the remainder of your stay to La Residence hotel was most enjoyable.

Lack of competition has allowed La Residence to hike up prices, but when there are few alternatives, that’s economics. This is a very good hotel by Central African standards. Modern clean large well equipped rooms, good WiFi and air con, and a superb large 25m pool, immaculately maintained. Lots of expats use it at the weekend when it can be busy but during the week it was blissfully quiet. The hotel is used for training and events by NGOs and embassies. Basic breakfast, somewhat underwhelming given the hotel charges. I didn’t eat here at other times as a nearby restaurant offered greater choice in a less hotel-like environment at a fraction of the cost (and beer at one-third the price). I booked a car to collect me from the airport but it didn’t show up. And good too, as it was a simple 5 minute walk to the hotel, that you can see from arrivals, in bright daylight without heavy luggage. I should have walked back even at night but felt I ought to take a cab - utter rip-off at 10,000 CFA ($15) for a five minute ride. Staff spoke reasonable English, which was good. At at end August 2022 the poolside restaurant is open; the main restaurant and nightclub are closed.

It is a very nice location to stay a few nights. I really like how there was breakfast included. It is a bit expensive but I think it's worth the price. The service was very good there although there were a few problems i'd say it was a very good experience.
