Very conveniently located for viewing Victoria Falls, with very friendly and knowledgeable staff and guides. River trip along Zambezi is not to be missed - stunning countryside and river wildlife - Hippos, crocodiles, birdlife etc all accompanied by drinks and snacks. Victoria Falls are spectacular and Ilala lodge provided umbrellas (gets very wet in places). Guide was excellent and the walk is well paced. The lodge itself (rooms and public area) are fine - not the charm of some private game lodges we have been to, but perfectly adequate. Friendly staff very ready to provide whatever is needed.
This is the first time we stayed at Ilala lodge and what a fantastic place. All the staff are so very friendly, and the attention to detail in all aspects of the lodge are impecable. The room was clean and spacious. The gardens are well manicured. I would highly recommend this lodge to families, holidaymakers and business people it a great place to relax. Congratulations to the management and all staff
Great location in the town where you can easily walk along to restaurants and shops and close by to the falls. Dinner in the Palm restaurant within the hotel was excellent. It’s lovely that the wildlife come into the grounds of the hotel.
Stayed here for a couple of nights, to visit the falls, as a short part of a longer trip to other parts of South Africa. Two days was simply not long enough! People say that all you need is one, maybe two overnights to see the falls. Maybe so, but this hotel was just so welcoming and comfortable, and so well situated, that we could easily have stayed a whole week - and found a few other things to do, whilst in the area. The hotel has a lovely, airy & open feel to it. The building and the grounds have much more of a "safari Lodge" layout, and ambience to them, than some of the other hotels in town, which, whilst comfortable and luxurious in themselves, are more modern in their look and feel. The restaurant here is advertised as fine dining in VF, and the best in town; well we didn't have time to try the rest, so I couldn't say if its the best, but I struggle to think that's there could be better! Its certainly a 'fine dining' menu, so if you want burgers and chips to eat, be advised this is not the place to stay. But for gentle relaxed ambience, excellent service, and staff who are happy, and energised, and whom actually seem to want to help make this a memorable stay, then I would be happy to recommend this hotel. We loved breakfast outside, within earshot of the falls, perpetually rumbling away in the background, and being able to see the plume of spray just over the treetops, which lets you know that you are almost a stone's throw away from the main attraction. Most of the guests were couples, here to do the standard thing - viewing the falls, but there were a few families with small (and impeccably behaved!) children, and they were just as relaxed, and at their ease as we were. A lovely well maintained garden (but in keeping with the African ambience, not overly-manicured!) attracted some wildlife, and we had the pleasure of being entertained at breakfast by families of antelope, and wart-hogs. There's two pools for the sun worshippers, and a spa - which we didn't have time to sample, so I cant comment on its facilities. We had a lovely sunset cruise on the Zambezi river, and had the pleasure of sharing the river with several families of hippos. Would I recommend this place - unreservedly. Would I come back - in an instant! HGML…
We had a great time in Victoria Falls, hotel is central to the town and can see the mist from the falls from our breakfast table. Food quality and choice was excellent. Staff very friendly and we booked tours through the hotel which were amazing with knowledgable guides. Would highly recommend and booking direct with them meant we got a free meal in the palm restaurant as well as a sunset cruise.
