This brightly coloured backpackers is a short five miniute walk from town. There is 24 hour security, a lively bar, a small restaurant that makes the best pizzas in town, self-catering kitchen, a swimming pool, DSTV and two very friendly dogs. The staff are very helpful and can assist you with all activity bookings and information on onward travel.

We stayed here for 4 nights as part of our overland tour. The place is pretty grim - the pool is unusable, it's tatty and worn out, and they let the locals in who letch around every evening. There is very loud music playing until around 1am in the morning so you won't be sleeping much. I have no idea why we stayed here as there are other much nicer backpacker places, I assume our tour must have some arrangement with them. In hindsight as I was upgrading to a room I'd probably have just booked to stay somewhere else as we had free time for the whole of our stay here, and I didn't need to be with the group.

Definitely a party here at the hostel. Three DJ's playing simultaneously to whatever you please. They have a big backward. Make sure you spray and wear longs unless you want to get bit. If you want more quiet ask for a place toward the back away from the main house. Have a flashlight walking around. Fun place.

As a woman, I do not recommend this place AT ALL. Its extremely creepy. The people who work there live in cars outside by the dorm room. Yea you read that correctly. They have vans, similar to scooby doo, and they live in there. No wifi in the rooms, only near the bar. The breakfast is absolutely terrible. The beds wre uncomfortable as hell. There is only one key for the room with 8 people, so the room has to stay open at night if other people are still arriving. In 3-5 months my review will no longer be applicable, (its july 2019), because they are renovating the dorms near the bar. When they are renovated, people probably wont be placed in the creepy dorms in the back near the cars.

Victoria Falls in general is expensive, and I agree that Shoestrings is a budget lodge, however it has many maintenance and cleaning issues after paying $55 USD: 1. They don't supply towels, neither a small soap bar 2. The mosquito net in the bathroom was torn, so all the time was a fight against the mosquitos, concerning ina Malaria zone. 3. The room walls were very dirty 4. The main window do not have a mosquito net, so I could never open it. 5. The blanket smells horrible 6. On Saturdays the party ends until 1 AM The Pros: 1. Very friendly staff 2. Very safe 3. Beautiful public areas 4. One block away from the super market, and 10 walking minutes from the VF entrance 5. The girl who do the booking for the activities is really good 6. They have hot water and a ceiling fan (noisy but refreshes) 7. On Saturdays the party ends until 1 AM In my opinion, there is a bad management, and I really do not understand how is that the public areas area cleaner than the rooms. I will not come back.

This hostel seems to have been around a long while and is popular with young backpackers (we meet Swedish, Israeli and English) and other budget minded travelers. It's quite worn, but was adequate for our needs. The staff are exceptionally helpful. Our double room with private bathroom was ok for the price. There is hot water and the WiFi works fine in the common area. There is an onsite coffee and smoothie truck and a restaurant that serves nice meals. One of the staff washed a bag full of laundry for us for $5. "Downtown" Vic Falls is just a 5 min walk away as are a few restaurants and shops. We like The River brewery. And took the free shuttle to Victoria Falls Lodge to see the (free) Vulture feeding that happens every day at 1pm. Very cool to see up close. Finally, a big THANK YOU to the staff for finding my wedding ring which I left behind and putting it on a bus to catch up with us in Bulawayo. Very kind of you!
