Hotel's Favorite
Great location, in the medina, surrounded by shops, just a few min walk to the souk. Friendly staff, always ready to help. Room was always very clean. A variety of food for breakfast was awesome. I would recommend this hotel anyone traveling for bussiness.

I stayed here in quarantine for 7 days as part of the requirement for entering Tunisia during the pandemic. If this was a normal business/vacation stay for a couple days, I'd rate the hotel with 4 or 5*. There is room for improvement though for the quarantined guest experience.
First, I payed extra (40 TND) for the hotel to have their driver meet me at the airport (this is roughly 3x the normal taxi price with Bolt from the airport to downtown, but that's not unusual when using a hotel's transport service for convenience). When I arrived, the driver was nowhere to be found and I was left waiting for an hour before he showed up. This was in spite of the hotel having all my flight info and stating the driver would be there holding a sign with my name. Fortunately, I had a local SIM card so I was able to contact the hotel letting them know I was stranded.
Secondly, while I paid in advance 187 TND/day for supposedly full board service, I ran out of bottled water on day 4 and requested more. The front desk immediately told me that I would be charged extra for this. This is completely ridiculous to not provide sufficient drinking water for quarantined guests and then charge more (at an inflated price) when you're not in a position to buy it elsewhere.
Finally, instead of providing a standard double or queen size bed, in my room there were two singles pushed together. Rather odd this is the chosen configuration as it's not very comfortable.
There were certainly positive aspects as well: the hotel seems to have been recently remodeled, a small fridge and room safe are provided, the room was very clean and meals were varied and of decent quality. Service was respectable overall. The location is also very central in downtown. If they address some of the aforementioned concerns, this no doubt would be an excellent hotel.

A charming basic hotel in the centre of Tunis. Good breakfast. Cannot beat the location. Friendly staff. A bit cheap in that they only provide one small bottle of water on the first day of your stay. An annoying detail since you can buy a bottle a block away for pennies. And no coffee service in the room.

Response from Hotel Carlton T, Gérant at Hotel Carlton Tunis
Responded Feb 10, 2020
Dear Sir Thank you for your comments. "A bit cheap" seems a little bit unfair however. We are a 3 stars hotel, with very reasonable pricing. However the level of service we provide: Original Art works all over the hotel, one of the richest breakfasts in town, a private parking in downtown Tunis, Airport shuttle... tend to make our customers think they booked a 4 star property :). We hope to see you back soon.

I reserved for my sister who has training in Tunis …Since day one she was the victim of bullying from the security or guard who is standing in the door who asked her if she is an hotel resident ..it sounds normal question but the way he said it was impolite..than he turned to his colleague and whispered to him that for sure someone paid for her!! My sister felt bad because of this disrespect ( as if she looks poor and has no money to pay by herself !!)and complained to the receptionist who apologized immediately. At the same day she lost her glasses when she left the room then when she asked them they sent 3 cleaners, one of them tended to take the intention of my sister to look in her bag ..and the other went inside the bathroom and brought the eye glasses and assumed that it was there from the beginning ..although my sister was sure that she looked there before and it was not there !! The next day they refused to clean her room because of that !! I m really shocked that an issue with one person could become a revenge in an important hotel like Carlton!! There is no respect for Tunisian tourists or residents..I feel very embarrassed that I choose this hotel for her ..Especially that a 5 star hotel near to them was giving offer at the same price , that will be the last time we go there and I don’t recommend it for “Tunisians”!! People there are terrible except the receptionist who were a good listener..but we didn’t see any action to solve the issue..just indifference !

What a fabulous place to stay. A beautiful Art Deco Building right in the centre with easy access to the Medina, shops, restaurants, railway, etc.
The staff were efficient, helpful and friendly from the Reception to the dining room staff and housekeeping.
On arrival we were allocated a room on the lst floor at the rear of the building. There was a small block of flats not far from the hotel building where unfortunately there was a dog that barked a lot of the time which included late into the night and very early morning. It appeared to be left out on the balcony. I don't know what the hotel can do about this but it is a problem.
The next day we were given a room on the 3rd floor at the front of the building. So thank you to the gentleman at reception who arranged this. It was perfect, no noise and like the first room was of a decent size and comfortable.
The breakfast spread was great with hot and cold dishes and a lovely selection of cheeses, breads, pastries and much much more. A true feast.
A well deserved Excellent rating (despite the barking dog) and we will definitely stay again.

Don’t hesitate to book here .It is really a wonderful place in the middle of the main boulevard of the Capital tunis. The hotel is very clean with all the COVID-19 precautions taken in consideration. The Room is big with excellent amenities and luxury bedding . Staff try to do their best to accommodate all my requests , they are really very professional , at the reception, the waiters, the house keepers...
I have been to most hotels of Tunis and this is the only one that exceeded my expectations , that s why this is my 4 the time to this property.
Excellent Job Carlton hotel .

Probably the worst hotel of my entire trip through Tunisia. Very unfriendly welcome at check-in. I was asked for my name, my passport was requested, and the receptionist silently looked for my booking. I was able to take a look and noticed that the amounts were completely different. When I asked him about it, he just replied that there was another guest with my name (who, strangely enough, had the same passport number and address as me). I was then completely ignored until my room card was programmed. This was placed on the counter with the sentence "This is your room key, breakfast 6 till 10" and that was it. When I asked for a bit more information, he just said "1st floor" and I was ignored from then on. You can't expect any attention here when you walk past and say hello either, YouTube is obviously more important than the famous Tunisian hospitality.
Compared to the price, the room is really very basic, especially the bathroom is in a rather mediocre condition. "View" of a littered parking lot behind the hotel. You can also park here if you need to for 10 dinars per night.
Cleanliness was OK. Breakfast buffet was pretty decent.
All in all, I stayed in better hotels in Tunisia for about half the price.

+1
The room and equipment is a joke. Bed frame is wobbly and squeaks as soon as you turn.
Bathroom is outdated. No storage space for toilet bags or personal hygiene items. Roasted parts make a disgusting impression. Faucet as well as shower faucet worn and calcified. TV has hardly any German/English channels and no connection with Netflix or other apps possible.
In the standard rooms there is no kettle - only the newly renovated rooms have one according to the reception. Apparently, there is an additional distinction between what the 3-star category includes for standard rooms and what applies to the “better” renovated rooms. Bad policies and message to guests.
Door lock is so unstable and broken that you are worried about your own safety and the safety of your belongings. Standard room rather disappointing and sad. There are better accommodations in this price range. Would not recommend it for longer stays. There was a bunch of mosquitoes in the room that were bothering at night. Staff is not interested in helping you and does not respond to the criticism, only after renewed demand we would be moved to other rooms but insects/mosquitoes remained a problem!
The staff should have solved the insect problem and prepared the rooms better before the guests arrived. We barely slept. In addition, it is very loud, you can hear every door that is closed and every movement on the corridor. Bring earplugs!
Door lock is so of unstable and broken, one has concerns about one's own safety and property. Standard room rather disappointing and sad. There's better for the money. Would not recommend it for longer stays!
The only plus is the location, really central and city center within walking distance.

I stayed here for 3 nights in Tunis after travelling around the country. Location is perfect. Bang in the middle of all the action with eateries and shopping on your doorstep. The Médina de Tunis is literally a 10 minute walk. Small boutique type hotel. Room was big and spacious. Very clean. Housekeeping done well. Staff were pleasant, helpful and friendly. Good security. Buffet breakfast for a 3-star hotel was very good with a nice selection. My difference between a 4 and 5 star rating is WIFI was painfully slow. I think complimentary water should be provided everyday, not just the first day. Would recommend otherwise.

To avoid, unpleasant staff with clearly facial features... My head is probably not the right one. When you pass the door of the hotel security more more more I had the impression of entering NASA, no physiognomist the receptionists justify 20 times that yes you are staying. to the hotel to return. Noisy hotel, no quiet night. Rude restaurant staff, no smile. unpleasant smell of uncleaned cushions, small room overlooking a small alley and smell of sewers at breakfast. In short, to flee...
