We stopped and toured this location mostly because of the cultural significance. Our Tunisian travel leader is really annoyed that the Ministry of Tourism in Tunisia doesn't advertise this location more and support it. There would literally be world-wide support! There is so much memorabilia for Star Wars fanatics. When we were there, a band was recording a video. There is a bar and rooms available. It looked quite run down to me, so I was glad we weren't staying there. The troglodyte style is quite unique to this area. Definitely worth a stop if you are a Star Wars lover!

Bizarre little hotel, most famous for being a film set location for Star Wars episode 4, A New Hope. Used as the interior of the Lars Homestead. They won't let you forget about it. A very quirky place, friendly staff (limited English, understandably!), nice reasonably priced food (huge portions), cold beer! The underground rooms are quaint and sparse, just a bed! The door looks from the outside with a chain and padlock, not possible to lock from the inside, just wedge a lump of wood in to close! Incredibly hot all night, advertised as having air con, but they don't. Shared toilet and shower amenities, which were adequate. I reckon this would be better described as a hostel rather than a hotel. They are more than willing to take you on local tours, for a hefty tip, whether you want one or not!

This hotel has missed an s from its name as it is more of a hostel than hotel. We arrived around 6pm after a long drive, we were greeted by a guy who it turned out was a local guide rather than staff member, he was very pushy wanting to show us around the town before we had even checked in. We told him no several times but after checking in he followed us around the outside as we went to take photos and demanded 20 dinars for his trouble. Now to the nitty gritty, booking through booking.com it states there is aircon, be warned there isn't even a fan in the room. The door doesn't close from the inside we had to wedge it shut with a piece of wood. We had a couple of drinks in the bar and asked about an evening meal, despite others eating in the breeze of the outside seating we were made to eat in a stuffy underground dining room. The food was basic tunisian fare, tasty but don't eat the salad! I contracted a tummy bug requiring antibiotics from that salad! If you are a star wars fan a visit is a must but you can see everything in 30 minutes no need to stay over! Toilets and showers were separate from the rooms and very basic, no toilet seats in the gents, no towels are provided. The pillows are rough looking cushions with no pillow cases. The rooms had beds in and that was all, not even a rubbish bin! For somewhere frequented by many star wars fans their English was non existent and the guide even pointed to a picture of uncle Owen and said look that is George Lucas eating here. I was too tired and hot to correct him. A fan could be provided as the temperature in the room never dropped below 26°C and being underground with no windows was airless. My advice, pass by and take your photos then leave as quickly as possible.

A horrible hotel with horrible inexesistaning services. The receptionist didn't know any information. The fast food is very very basic. The toilets and showers are far from the rooms. It's a poor bar with rooms not a hotel. I don't recommend it at all.

I would not stay a night here unless you were really wanting to experience living in southern Tunisian troglodyte homes. It was cool to see the Star Wars stuff, though it was very dated. However, the rooms were not that enjoyable if you are looking for comfort. Pros Star Wars: The main reason to come here is cause it was the setting for the interior of the Skywalker homestead in the first Star Wars movie. I will admit it is very cool to see. Everything looks alot like you would imagine it would nearly 40+ years on. Courteous: The folks were plenty friendly. They wanted to share the history of the place and were proud of it. Food: They also included a meal for our overnighting. It was traditional Tunisian and pretty good as far as Tunisian food goes. Cons Lack of Amenities: This is not a plush location. I would equate it to an outside hostel or camping. There's no TV. There's no heating or AC. You are literally staying in a hole in the ground. It's authentic to what the locals lived in back in the day, so be ready for that. However, that novelty quickly dies off. One night was way more than enough. The bathrooms were a fair walk away and definitely more in like with campground restrooms. Doors: Uhm yeah. The "doors' are just some wood nailed together. They provide little protection from the outside. You could fairly easily see through ours. It also barely locked with a massive sliding bolt that only barely closed, but made a huge sound. This all meant for a winter stay it got pretty chilly in the room of the night. Beds: These were not meant for comfort. It's utility. Very firm with no give or padding. Fortunately there were plenty of heavy blankets for the cold.

The attitude changed after refusing the offer.. I m leaving a review on the behalf of a japenese friend ; I booked three nights for my friend and i ve been nicely welcomed by the owner of the hostel by phone. Unfortunatly, once my friend arrived he noticed that the owner was drunk witch it give him a bad impression. The tourist was intrested to discover the beauty of the desert but the offer of the owner for the tour guide was way over priced ! My friend refused the offer and the owner changed his attitude witch leaves my friend with no option than leaving the hostel the next morning. I was expecting more professionalisme from the owner and m I feeling bad for such behaviour !

Unusual below ground hotel. Supposedly George Lucas stayed here while making Star Wars. Many Star War poster and some memorabilia. Decent local restaurant, beer available. Rooms are spartan. Service is erratic.

The hotel is famous for its troglodyte rooms and for some scenes of star wars. That can be seen in few minutes, but if you were unlucky enough to have to spend one night there, you will regret it. The toilets were horrible. I have never seen such dirt! Only one men's toilet out of six was acceptable, and the rest were unusable. We struggled to find something to eat at dinner. The hotel's staff were indifferent and careless. Some rooms were so small that you even don't have were to put your bag!
