For 20 years, the grasslands of the Eastern Serengeti were closed to tourists to allow the cheetah population to replenish itself. Today, this is big-cat territory, where cheetah roam the area in pursuit of prey, and lion and leopard hunt undisturbed. In 2014, the region reopened with Asilia appointed as its custodian. Guests can enjoy this incredible corner of the Serengeti from the comfort of cool and elegant Namiri Plains. Expansive views, serious comfort, exceptional privacy and unrivalled sightings of apex predators in a region of the Serengeti come together to give you an exclusive and action-packed safari experience.

We had the absolute best time at Namiri plains. Not only was the lodge itself amazing, but the staff and guides were exceptional. We were treated amazing all throughout our stay and and we loved everyone there! Special shout-out to our guide Manja, but then also Dickson, Yahaya, Charles, and eve. We will definitely come back, especially thanks to how nice everyone was. An amazing lodge and would highly recommend. The one regret we have is how short we stayed here!

We stayed 3 nights in Namiri Asilia Camp in September as part of a 12 day safari. It was our first Serengeti stop. We could not have been happier. Our guide, Stanley, was fabulous. Knowledgeable, quick, patient, respectful of other guides. He also “paced” our trip nicely to keep it interesting but not overwhelm. The camp manager was clearly a wonderful leader. The camp staff were happy to be around us, helpful, funny and a great start to our Serengeti experience. The food was outstanding, permanent rooms very comfortable and great bedding. Many animals roamed the nearby bush. Asilia , for those who don’t know, is very ecologically responsible with no plastic bottles, very little trash, family style meal servings to minimize the waste. We could not have imagined a better way to experience this area.

This was Part of 3 Asilia properties we visited. All of them have an EXCELLENT experience. I have mentioned a particular experience at Namiri as well as a common experience at all the properties. Namiri: The Property - Reaching the property is quite a distance from the closest airport. But the good part is, the game drive starts from the airport itself. We were able to spot 3 male cheetah as soon as we left the airport, and later followed a Cheetah Mother and son for 3 hours (With being the only vehicle) all from the airport before we reached the Property. We were greeted with the signature Asilia welcome and the amazing team at the property. This is probably one of the best designed properties with amazing interiors, Absolutely fell in love with the property. The common areas have a great lounge, dinging area, "Bush TV" (fireplace in the open), a shop with a private dining, and also a pool. The Room - Not to far, but not to close from the main areas. Exception room, with wonderful interiors. All the amenities you would require, including a fan. They have a hot tub on the porch is is amazing during sunsets. The food was excellent and they catered to our requirements - Vegetarian, and my wife was Vegan which was a challenge they overcame with no issues. Game Viewing- As mentioned the first day was amazing. On the second day we pulled an all day game drive, starting at 6am and returning at 6:30 PM. We saw several prides of lions, many of them cuddling each other. We saw a cheetah kill which was amazing along with other wonderful wildlife. Our Guide - MOINGA, was an absolute Star here and he made the experience that much more pleasurable. On our departure, on the way to the airport we saw incredible game at 7am, 2 Female Lions with 2 cubs playing with each other was a great sight to see. Location- It is 2-3 hours away from the nearest airport, but its a great drive. Asilia in General as a Brand: Exceptional experience and training of the team. This is marjoly a peoples business and the SOP's set in place along with the training and quality of people really bring this out. The airport meets with the guides. Each one of them welcomed us with the same warmth and joy and made us instantly feel like a family when we met. The Cars and its setup, extremely comfortable with everything we could ask for. All the drinks required for the long days spent in the car, multiple charging points and very comfortable. The greeting at the property- This was exceptional and would instantly put a smile on anyone's face. The song and dance was lovely, and something I will remember for a long time. Meeting the manager and our respective staff was a great touch. Interiors- At each property there was something different and yet familiar. Amazing interiors and we loved every bit of it at each location. The morning wakeup calls- This will change our morning alarms for sure! Having someone warmly greet us at 5:30 am with an amazing strong coffee and cookies is something else. Early mornings are difficult for us, but this was something we looked forward to! The food - Overall the food was amazing, the quality and offerings. However for Vegetarians we felt slightly restricted to lentils (cooked in multiple ways), grilled veggies, and some grains. Again it is in the middle of the jungle and we understand. We absolutely loved the food and no complaints, but maybe we would have liked some options for a mexican/asian foods if possible in the future. One standout desert was the chocolate truffles at The Highlands, AMAZING. The Guides - The best for the last. We enjoyed each guide at each location. Only after our holiday did we realize what a big part they play in the Safari experience, and more so in the Asilia experience, and this is what sets Asilia apart from others. The warmth and experience of the guides is outstanding, their training is unparalleled. One example of this - At Sayari, the BBC film crew was almost following us at every crossing because of Manja and he surely got us some amazing sightings. We first met Kiddogu at highlands who has a bubbly and fun personality. Later we were with Moinga at Namiri, where we fell in love with the location and started to appreciate the wildlife thanks to him. Lastly with Manja at Sayari, where we once again got great sightings, a great experience and more importantly learnt a lot about his Massai culture and a good friend. Just overall feedback which really impacted us, probably more than usual- the insects. We would really like to see some sort of mosquito aids in the properties, if possible. Like a mosquito coil for the common areas or rooms, rackets, doing some kind of fogging which helps reduce mosquitoes or some other things, Aside from the sprays. One small suggestion - The camps felt eerily quiet. The rooms and common areas could certainly use or have an option of more ventilation ( Additional Fans or something), and in the common areas, would have definitely liked some soothing background music, maybe only in the restaurant or lounge.

Namiri Plains was one of four luxury camps where we stayed during our two week Tanzania safari circuit as a family of four, with kids ages 13 and 10, and was a favorite. Not only was the camp set in a beautiful and remote location with stunning views, the camp itself was five star all the way. From the staff to food to rooms with lovely outdoor tubs and beautiful views, to amenities (pool and spa), we could not have asked for a better stay. The staff went out of their way to host us, including our wonderful waiter, Moses, and were always there to offer a cool towel, drink, or anything else we could have asked for. The drinks around the fire were a plus, especially when there were other groups to talk to (during the pandemic, most of the places we stayed only had one or two rooms occupied, Asilia camps included). A huge and special thanks to our fantastic private guide, Moinga, who took us to see countless lions (so many that we stopped counting) and cheetahs, along with many adorable lion and cheetah cubs, a few servals, and as always, loads of elephants and all the typical plains animals. We were lucky enough to see Bob Jr, a famous lion of the Serengeti, on a few occasions too. And one night, there were about 30 elephants at the camp, right outside our room, which was amazing to see. We had such a great experience and cannot wait until we can visit again. We will definitely be requesting Moinga as our guide and highly recommend him! Thanks Namiri Plains Asilia team!
