With seven private tents & one private tented family Villa, Asanja Africa Camp is very exclusive, providing exemplary service. Each luxury private tent represents a special Maasai Ceremony and has a story to tell. The tents are spacious and have a private verandah overlooking the scenic views of the Serengeti. All the tents have en-suite bathrooms with flush toilets and hot showers. Despite having the same design, each tent is distinct and unique. The tents are personalized and embellished in African style and culture. Asanja Africa Camp is located in South Central Serengeti National Park, Tanzania. The area is best known for its enormous herbivore migration, led by over a million zebra and wildebeest, a vast voracious lawnmower which in turn provides sustenance for a glut of predators.

Our second safari in Tanzania, and this time we chose Asanja. Right from day one [in spite of contacting few other agencies], I started leaning towards Asanja-primarily because of their [Ajay’s] transparency, clarity of communication & willingness to understand what we wanted. Stayed for Asanja Grumeti for only one night, but it was so rewarding. Even though [unfortunately] we missed the main migration, the landscape around Grumeti is beautiful & different, and lots of wildlife around the intimate camp [just 3 tents]. Best of all its far away from the circus of central Seronera area and you feel you have the wilderness all to yourself. It’s really worth the 1.5 hrs it takes to drive here. We were lucky to see a small (20k-25k) wildebeest migration and that itself was quite something. And we could spend a lot of time at each sighting without being swarmed by other vehicles. If anyone wants to experience the Serengeti of days gone by, then stay here. The camp itself is lovely, the service impeccable and the tents are huge with every amenity. Loved the outdoor shower and the luxurious toiletries, though I cannot understand the concept of toilets without privacy [inside the tent] which are becoming so popular everywhere. Onto two nights at Asanja Moru…I truly believed I was in 1940’s…”Out of Africa”. The camp takes the definition of glamping to another level, but without the exorbitant costs of other luxury camps in Serengeti. The tents are spread out so there's total privacy. As with Grumeti, service was spot on, and each member of the staff was friendly, welcoming and had a genuine warmth. The complimentary laundry was very useful, the spa after hours on safari was relaxing & the food was yummm & fresh [though the fish served in Grumeti wasn’t quite right]. The dinner under the stars at Moru was delightful and the live cooking under the open sky was truly memorable. The location allowed us to explore southern Serengeti, which was also fabulous, and we had the expanse of the wilderness all to ourselves for hours on end. We had lions roaring around the camp at night which was quite exciting, & watching the sunrises & sunsets from our tent was wonderful. The guiding was the only let down in an otherwise incredible safari. Mike seemed to be just doing his “job” and we couldn’t see his passion/excitement at all. And having been on numerous safaris [that’s our passion], we definitely know the difference! One suggestion is to add pedestal fans in the tents as it gets quite warm inside even in the winter months. We would have loved to forgo a game drive just to enjoy the peacefulness at the camp, but didn't because it was uncomfortably warm in the tents. Wish we could have stayed longer, will definitely be back!!

We had a great three nights of stay at the camp in early July, the manager Ajay took my request and had put together a great package tailored to our needs. Service was fantastic, bed warmers in our bed every night, free Laundry service ensures we had fresh cloths waiting for us in our tent when we come back from a whole day of bumpy and dusty game drive, food was plenty and tasted great too. Also I would highly recommend the under the stars/flying tent experience to anyone that’s curious, it was truly one of a kind experience, well worth the price of admission if you ask me.

My teenage children and I spent five incredible days at the Moru tented camp and it was an experience we won’t forget! Beginning with Ajay, our reservation contact - he is the epitome of friendly, helpful, efficient customer service. Ajay helped me create our itinerary, answered questions quickly and thoroughly and made changes without any problems. He made the trip comfortable, knowing we were connected to someone who had our safety and enjoyment as a priority. The camp accommodation - beautiful, welcoming, exciting and the perfect mix of nature and comfort. We stayed in the family tent with two bedrooms/baths and a communal area for hanging out, card playing, etc. We heard and saw a lot of wildlife from the tent, which was really fun. Our driver - Omir was the BEST! Positive, knowledgeable, the best eyes on the Serengeti :) with great respect for the animals (the wild ones and the ones in his truck, ie my kids!) He was just a lovely man that made our game trips amazing. We still talk about his great laugh! The camp staff - the staff was gracious and helpful. They met us with smiles every morning and return. The parting song they sang when we left for home was a special touch. The camp food - was delicious and plentiful. The soups before each dinner were especially amazing! If you’re going to take this trip of a lifetime, this is the way to go!

Asanja camp is nestled in the Moru Kopje area, about 45kms from Serengeti air port. The trip takes about 1 1/2 hours, crossing the central plains, and moving into the hills. Once at camp you feel totally secluded. The central dining and bar tent is an oasis in the wilderness. The staff are exceptional, producing good food, and always on hand to provide fresh juice, cocktails or anything else you may desire. The guest tents are spread at a distance that provide privacy, and are beautifully appointed. We traveled as a large family group with 5 Kids and 6 adults. I stayed in the “Family” tent, with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms with showers, and a central living room. We had herds of Impala at the edge of our deck at sunrise and sunset. At night you can here Lions, elephants, and all manner of wildlife in close proximity. We toured central Serengeti and witnessed 10-20 safari vehicles at every significant game sighting. By comparison in the areas nearer the camp we were often the only vehicles at an animal sighting, maybe joined by 2 or 3 others at times. The track to the camp featured us passing through a herd of 40+ elephants one evening, we saw a male Lion in a tree within 500 metres of camp three times, and a pride with cubs crossing the track at about the same distance on a morning drive. Our children were entertained and educated by the Maasai warrior night patrol, and we made an unforgettable day trip to the Ngorongoro crater. Most importantly Bariki the camp manager and his team made us welcome and secure for every part of our stay. If you want to escape the crowds and have a truly personalised Serengeti experience Asanja is a must.

We returned last week from a family trip to the Northern Circuit in Tanzania. After extensive research into numerous safari companies, as well as specific camps, I found Asanja Africa. They have their own camps in several locations, and were also knowledgeable and able to help with all of the other arrangements, such as internal flights, transfers, and other camps. Ajay from Asanja was an amazingly responsive and helpful representative, who was totally dedicated to working closely with me to understand exactly what we were looking for and to create an itinerary that met our needs. Ajay made sure our trip was coordinated with the Serengeti migration to maximize our experience. Ajay was great, and his level of service, concern, and focus on our trip continued throughout our trip. He stayed in touch all along the way, and immediately got back to me with any information or help I needed. He is an amazing example of perfect dedicated customer service. The first Asanja camp we went to was Moru for four days, and then we moved on to the Asanja Grumeti Camp for four more days. Both camps were absolutely beautiful, and the locations were stunning. Both camps struck the perfect balance between being relaxed, low-key, small, and intimate, and at the same time being very comfortable, luxurious, and truly special. Both Managers, Bariqi at Asanja Moru, and John at Asanja Grumeti were totally focused on the highest quality customer service, and made our family group of six feel like welcome guests in their home. All of the staff couldn’t have been more professional, and they offer a truly five-star service experience, (similar to the best of hotels) in the bush, in a relaxed and casual way. Perfect! Everybody looks very happy to be working at Asanja, and that joy and fun permeate the entire experience. We got to know and really like all of the folks working at each camp. The tents, the furniture, and all amenities are beautiful, and the food was absolutely delicious. Whether it’s dining under the stars, on the savannah, or at the camp lodge, the staff always tried to make each meal into a special dining experience. The chef was flexible in accommodating any specific dietary requirements (vegetarian), and they took great pride in every course of every meal. Meals varied between traditional Tanzanian (home) cooking, and more elegant (western) cuisine, and all of it was very delicious and plentiful. Of course, a lot of what safaris are about is the game viewing and touring around the Serengeti. With all of the wonderful aspects of Asanja and the camps themselves, truly the most wonderful and important aspect that really “makes or breaks” the quality of the safari experience is the game drive guide/driver. We travelled with Erick, our driver for eight days, and I can’t speak highly enough about him. He too, was completely focused on making sure my family and I had the very best, most exciting and interesting experience we possibly could. Erick’s knowledge of the Serengeti and the animals was absolutely amazing! We saw ALL of the animals in the most close up and intimate way. Erick was tireless in his focus on ensuring that we’d see as much as we possibly could, and he had the answers absolutely to any questions we had. He found wildlife with the keen eye of an experienced professional, and he knew where to go and how to maneuver through the park. Erick made sure our wildlife encounters would feel intimate and private, and he successfully avoided us having the feeling of being in a crowded tourist destination. This was our third family safari trip (others were South Africa, and Kenya), and Erick was as unique and special as the Serengeti itself! We really came to think of him as a good friend. Erick was flexible and relaxed, and totally dedicated to providing us with memorable experiences, and he was also lots of fun and exciting to be with. I can’t recommend Asanja Africa highly enough. From the initial experience putting the itinerary together with Ajay, to the experience at the camps and the ultimate wonderful game drives with the Erick, the best driver ever, Asanja strives for perfection. All transfers, arrangements, and logistics were clear and perfectly coordinated, and the entire experience was as memorable, magical, and life-changing as we could ever hope for. I couldn’t be more pleased with our choice of Asanja Africa, and I can’t recommend it highly enough!
