Taasa Lodge, located on the northern edge of the Serengeti in Tanzania, is nestled on a ridge within a private concession. The lodge offers an array of unique opportunities not possible inside the national park. Some of these include private off-road game drives in open vehicles, walking safaris, night game drives, dinners in the bush, sundowners in the concession, authentic visits to a Maasai village, hot air balloon safaris and day trips to the Mara River. The 12 spacious tents are beautifully and luxuriously constructed under canvas and offer stunning views. From each tent you can enjoy the rich plains of the concession while watching animals in their natural habitat. The refurnished main lodge and newly constructed infinity pool also offer staggering views of the landscape. Taasa employs and empowers members of our local community, preserves and protects the indigenous wildlife and natural species of the region and educates global travelers on the rich natural and cultural reso

While on a 10 day safari in Tanzania, my wife and I spent our last 2 nights at the Taasa Lodge. Upon arrival in mid-afternoon, we were greeted by the entire staff singing a song welcoming us to the lodge. We were offered a wet hand towel and juice. Melou and Irene led us to the main lodge where my wife and I were given an overview of what to expect during our stay. We were assigned Mikindo (Mik) as our personal butler. Mik showed us to our tent. The accomodations in our tent were excellent. Actually to call this a tent is like calling fine china, dinnerware. There was a front door that could be locked with a key. There was a large, covered stone patio in front of the tent, with chairs to enjoy the awesome view of the valley below. When you enter the tent, the front portion of the tent includes an L shaped sectional couch to the right and a writing desk to the left. A complimentary bottle of wine and a large, glass bottle of drinking water is waiting on the desk, along with a pamphlet describing Taasa Lodge. Up a couple steps is the king size bed. The bed was extremely comfortable and my wife loved the hot water bottle under the covers at bedtime. Behind a wall at the head of the bed was a luxurious wash room that consisted of a shower, 2 wash basins, a flush toilet and an area to hang clothes and put luggage. There were several electrical outlets throughout the tent convenient for charging electronic devices. I was pleasantly surprised to find high speed wifi access in the tent. The food was excellent. It was equivalent to eating at a quality restaurant every meal. Even the breakfast on our morning game drive was great, served on a cloth covered table. On the afternoon we arrived, we rested in our tent a while and then decided to enjoy the pool and surrounding patio area. I have to mention that there was only one other guest staying at Taasa our first night and none the next night. My wife and I essentially had this wonderful 5 star lodge to ourselves. After 5 minutes of relaxing in the pool with the incredible view, Mik ceased being our butler and became my friend. His cheerful personality was infectious. He kept the drinks flowing, built a fire, transitioned us to dinner in the lodge and took care of us the rest of the night. Our 2nd day at Taasa consisted of a morning game drive, an early afternoon visit to a nearby Maasai village, a late afternoon game drive and a night game drive. These activities were led by our guide (Dominic) and tracker (Boniphace). Since no other guests accompanied us on these activities, our group game drives became private game drives. Dominic was extremely engaging and quite knowledgeable about the wildlife. How Boniphace's eagle eyes spied a far away leopard that blended in with the grass I don't know. My wife was hoping to see lion cubs and Dominic surpassed her expectations by finding a pride of 20 lions and a female with cubs only a few days old. At the end of the day when we arrived back at the lodge in the dark, we found out that a surprise, 40th wedding anniversary dinner that Mik had set up outside had been sabotaged by rain. The kitchen staff cooked dinner a 2nd time and Mik served it to us in the lodge. As nice as the Taasa Lodge facilities were, it was the attentiveness and warmth of the entire staff that I can't say enough of. Both nights after my wife went to bed, I closed the bar with several members of the staff. I really enjoyed learning about Tanzania from the friendly people working at Taasa. When we booked our safari, our safari planner said "You are going to love Taasa." He was absolutely correct. And I will ditto what I read in another review. "Please come prepared to tip your personal team (butler, tracker, and safari guide) and the general staff! We personally worked through a travel agency, and they gave us the heads-up before our trip about the tipping culture. They deserve every penny and go above and beyond on their service."

Overall Rating - 5 star My husband and I stayed at Taasa for 4 nights / 3 days. It was the most amazing and unforgettable experience. From when we stepped off the plane on the Lobo airstrip, to when we flew back to Kilimanjaro airport, we were treated to extremely attentive service. We highly recommend Taasa Lodge to anyone who has the pleasure to visit Tanzania, Africa! Customer Service/Staff - 5 star service - personal butler is assigned upon arrival; we had the pleasure to work with Wilson; he always had a smile on his face, paid careful attention to our needs, and always greeted us and sent us off on our game drives; we love Wilson! - a safari guide and tracker is given to each group; we had the pleasure to work with Eto and Erick; they are both highly skilled in what they do; we would name animals that we wanted to see that day, and they would find them! They are not afraid to get us up close and personal with the animals, and we loved every game drive; Eto (our tracker) is very good at what he does; he found a chameleon on a tree branch, at night, as we drove by! We stopped and he shined the spotlight on it so we could see; we were blown away by both Erick and Eto’s skill - general staff was amazing; the room was always clean; the staff was always smiling and greeted you happily Amenities - 5 star - the personal “tent” rooms were beautiful; the bed was very comfortable; at night, there were always hot water bottles tucked under the covers to warm the sheets - the pool was cold and refreshing; clean; and it is impossible to beat the view! - they offer massages at an additional cost; I highly recommend the indulgence! Food - 4 1/2 star - the food was always delicious and beautiful! - the scenery of the meal in the brush is unbeatable - the quality of the food/meals was amazing - only reason that this is not 5 star is because one meal (lamb) was not to my husband’s liking; however, it was still good and he finished the whole thing! So it wasn’t bad! Additional Note - Please come prepared to tip your personal team (butler, tracker, and safari guide) and the general staff! We personally worked through a travel agency, and they gave us the heads-up before our trip about the tipping culture. They deserve every penny and go above and beyond on their service ❤️

They employ mind-readers here, staff knows what you want before you have uttered a word. Every tent gets a personal butler and ours was wonderful - interested & interesting and genuinely nice. Great views, exceptional food (maybe the nicest chocolate desert I have had - ever). We did not spend enough time to try all the activities. The tents are super equipped (yoga matt anybody?) with lovely views and lots of privacy. It is still a tent of course so if you are the kind who wants air con, does't like the sound of the wind or fusses about a few rain drops in the bathroom during tropical showers stay home (or in a concrete hotel). Nice to be able to walk on the grounds with children and a guide. The boma dinner is lovely, with a great fire being lit during apéro. What I really liked is that there is a sense of pride and ownership among the staff - not top down it seems, but just genuine pride and savour-faire at all levels. As you are not allowed to wander outside of the tent after dark, you get a whistle and a phone so you can call a guard - my one advice would be to check the battery before guests arrive ;) (there is always the whistle of course). As to improvements to the top notch experience - 1. think about the arrival experience at the first gate, maybe on purpose, but it seems a bit run down compared to the understated perfect atmosphere beyond the gate. 2. many "travellers" prefer not to be too intrusive on game drives, no need to blind the wildlife for the "tourists".

We spent three nights at Taasa. The staff--mostly local Maasai--are extremely attentive, friendly, and eager to serve. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Shower and toilet areas are of masonry while remainder of each large room is of strong but flexible tenting fabric. (This can rustle if nighttime winds become strong.) Rooms are well-lighted. Beds are not covered with mosquito netting (as many in Tanzania are) but staff explains that tenting material is treated with repellent. I saw no mosquito nor insect of any kind in my room during my three-day stay. Wifi very strong. Food is well-prepared after taking your individual choice from 2-3 options offered by the waiter. Our lodging fee included all accessories--drinks of any kind, all meals, laundry, and game drives--a policy designed to be welcoming and relaxing. A free bottle of South African wine was even provided in each of our rooms. Our guide-driver and game spotter were very well informed. The lodge benefits from having its own private concession immediately adjacent to Serengeti park. This allows game drives to depart from the roadways, a practice not allowed inside the park. During our stay we enjoyed early-morning game drives, a nighttime game drive, a sunset buffet dinner around a campfire (lions roaring not far away), a hot, individually-cooked breakfast at a scenic point while on the early morning game drive, in addition to two excellent dinners in the regular dining area. Drinks of any kind are available in the lounge area at any time. A short brochure in each room provides background info on the mission and origin of the lodge (to offer employment opportunities to local Maasai), and clear guidance on optional tipping practices. We stayed in four lodges during a ten-day visit to the Arusha-Serengeti region. Taasa was by far the best.

Trip of a life time !!…….An experience never to be forgotten !! We stayed at TASSA lodge in Tanzania from July 21st to July 24th. A group of 10 with 2 kids. TASSA is a complete package with the staff leading the DELIGHT factor ! The warmth and eagerness coupled with the ability to anticipate needs was incredible ! This is what differentiates FANTASTIC from GREAT!! The game drives were amazingly productive and informative. Eric’s knowledge, patience and a sunny personality gave us an incredible experience ! He knew when, where and what of the entire viewing experience. Upendo and Wilson were simply brilliant enough to make us “MISS “them !! Smiling, sweet and always there !! The lodge is beautiful and so are the rooms. From the concrete jungle (New York) to the beautiful jungle…..Asante sana !!!
