In February of 2020, my group of 4 (one couple and two singles) spent two nights in three tents at the Karibu camp’s ‘The Woodlands’ southern Serengeti location. It was a beautiful setting on a hillside overlooking the plains. The tents were very clean and well kept and has just about every amenity you would need for your stay. Even though it was summer, It got pretty cold there on the plains but I always felt so warm and snug in bed at night listening to the far off hyenas and the not so far off lions around camp. On the second night, we were the only group in camp and were taken care of superbly by Francois and his colleagues. Big shoutout to these kind gentlemen!!! The food was great and The Woodlands was actually my favorite camp of our nine day safari. If I can mention one disappointment in hopes of gaining improvement, it is that the camp does not take credit cards to settle incidentals upon checkout but is strictly cash only.! We were not informed at checkin of the and this seems to be the case with all Karibu properties. If you want to enjoy extras like beer or wine it forces you to use the cash you may have allotted for other purposes, thereby challenging you budget. When I mentioned my disappointment to an employee his answer was that they were out in the middle of nowhere. But I can’t help but to observe that every other camp we stayed at except for the two Karibu properties accepted credit card payment with no problem. And that includes this trip and a previous safari in 2018. All others accepted credit cards. I even am very happy to pay any surcharge that may be associated with having this service. I hope the Karibu company will reconsider their policy and find a way to add this convenience to their guests when using their properties. Otherwise, I had a great 2 night stay and I look forward to returning someday, possibly to their Northern Serengeti location. …
My husband and I stayed at the Woodlands camp for 2 nights and were expecting a tent. We still can't believe this is a mobile camp! The accommodations were beyond our expectations. Out large 2 room tent had 24 hours of electricity, 2 comfortable beds, a couch, coffee table, desk, and a separate changing room with a flush toilet, sink, shower, and large changing area. We were met with a cool towel to wash our face and the staff was friendly. There is a tent with several couches and chairs for lounging and it has WIFI! Another tent is used for dining and the food was delicious. The location was ideal as we started our game drives right from camp. There were giraffes, zebras and wildebeest nearby.
Great staff, food good. A very welcome hot shower. Lovely tent, the view of vast numbers of zebra and wildebeest right out front. Our guide Ellison of Unique Safaris made our profile game drives wonderful.
This location of this mobile camp is beautifully situated to allow for easy game drives to the Naabi plains. The staff are genuine, helpful and kind. When one of our party became sick, they went out of their way to check on them and make sure they were comfortable. The food was the best we had in Tanzania. You have to be prepared to ask for hot water for showers, having moths in your tent and them running out of your favorite alcohol. These are minor inconveniences that are part of being in the middle of nowhere. Roll with them and you will have an unforgettable experience. It has been our favorite place to stay in Tanzania since we arrived over a week ago.
