I got to stay at the Al Uruba for a few nights and cause it is cheap for the location one needs to call ahead to make a booking as the rooms are almost always full. My wife and I spent one terrible night in this hotel in the beginning of ‘13. Some points: dirty rooms and bathrooms (I say very dirty), bad location (not walk around at night, stay alert during the day), no restaurant near (walk something like 30 minutes), noisy air conditioning and little or nothing prepared staff. I really like the AL URUBA ..it is situated very close to Kariakoo market , yet safe to walk and explore around during daytime. I stayed at the Al Uruba for one night after getting the boat accross from Zanzibar to fly back home the next day. Just stayed a couple of days in this hotel in Kariakoo, Dar es Salaam. Kariakoo is near the city center mainly known for it's market. It's a very vibrant, hectic place with a lot bussiness going own. Dar Es Salaam is not tourist central, but this hotel is an excellent place to stay while in transit. The neighborhood is like so many in the region...busy, not very attractive, etc,. but the convenience of having a clean, better than average restaurant downstairs is a big plus.
