Mediterraneo Hotel & Restaurant offers an inviting atmosphere with its serene location and stunning sea views, a hit among many guests. While the lush grounds and tasty food receive high marks, especially the ocean-view dining for romantic outings, opinions on value differ due to some service and room allocation issues.
The staff generally garners praise for their politeness and efficiency, but there have been a few service hiccups. Room experiences vary, with clean and spacious garden-view rooms being a highlight, though some guests report problems with air conditioning and neatness in beach-facing rooms.

Detailed Reviews
I have been visiting Dar for over 25 years and since I discovered Mediterraneo 6 years ago I have been coming back to it every single time. Great rooms and garden, fantastic food, located literally on the beach with great views of the ocean, very thoughtful architecture and feel. Top value for money in the upper-middle range.

We spent 9 days here, over New Year 2021-22. Thus hotel has kind staff, good rooms but plagued by long waiting for drinks or food. So much so I had put a 1 / 5 but changed it as the reception staff were very helpful.
We arranged trips both to the islands and to another resort which had a beach, all through reception.
This resort has no beach. It's only views of the ocean. Unfortunately it was often full of scrap, plastic bottles and other such rubbish. That's why we took daily trips to White Sands and paid an entry fee each day.
Any review saying you can be on the beach is really stretching the truth.
The island trips did come with 15 -20$ per person entry fee on top of the trip cost.
The pool is small and simple, with typical African pool beds. Too much chemicals caused many of our white outfits to discolour, so watch out for that.
Food, when it did arrive, was very good. I recommend you make your order 3-4 hours before dinner, otherwise you will receive food dish by dish, even if you ordered the same food!! The lack of any Service skills was obvious but we enjoyed ourselves even so!
We had half board, note that water and 1 round of soft drinks is included. The cashier got this wrong nearly all dinners, so again we needed to often wait 45mins just to sign for the evening meal.
Our agent helped us with discounts due to these issues but we were lucky.
The gardens are beautifully kept and the relaxing are is lovely and breeze from the ocean is constant. Shame again that smokers are allowed to be in this area.
Very relaxing hotel, just be aware of the lack of beach and food orders.

We really liked the lounge area facing the beach to relax. Great place to hangout and spend the day before continuing to travel, it was perfect for our short stop in dar es salaam.
Reception staff was welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was included, which was nice as well.
The rooms are a nice size, really spacious and functional, good wifi.
-
Some employees at the breakfast could be more welcoming. When asked for help it's almost as if we were bothering them, no smile + a bit of attitude.
The AC in the room didn't work at all so we resorted to the fan, but it was really hot.
More attention to details would be nice to upgrade the whole experience, especially if marketed as boutique hotel (eg: better quality body wash/hand wash instead of cheap soap bar etc...)

This hotel must have paid people to write their good reviews. The WIFI never worked properly in four days, the food quality was abysmal and the restaurant service so slow delivering it on the back of a tortoise would have been faster. A hair on my pizza, stained sheets with a hole in changed twice because the second set had stains too.
I changed rooms to get better WIFI reception but it was the old hotel excuse about the router not working. There is no consideration to customers barring smiling and saying hi. The room maids were friendly but that is all. The assistant manager Mwana was rude and obnoxious. She dismissed my concerns and complaints without even checking why.
The food was overrated and expensive. Do not eat here, eat at the restaurant across the street which has at least one chef who cooks well.
The whole hotel is overrated and expensive. Don't bother with this one.

I am sorry to hear about your experience. It's surprising you found the service bad since our team is helpful and always available to help with any problems you may have during your stay. Firstly, we have never paid for reviews- our clients genuinely enjoy Mediterraneo and the service and leave here very happy. It's unfortunate you don't feel the same. It's a shame you didn't enjoy the menu, but we are happy you enjoyed Pweza Pweza our new restaurant better. Our prices are very reasonable and we follow all health and safety procedures in our kitchen. All our sheets are also cleaned for every guest, we understand you wanted to brand new sheets for your room- which is a special request which we tried our best to respect, so we changed the sheets for you. In regards to the Wifi, we will look into this further and ensure that the connection is strong in the rooms as well. We tried our best to help you and not leave disappointed. However, if you still feel strongly about your experience you can always contact me directly. Thank you.

This is a hard review to write as I have such mixed feelings about the place. On the one hand, the actual setting is so much more beautiful than the pictures do it justice (aside from the swimming pool which is weirdly below average for such a beautiful hotel). The rooms were lovely, the whole ambience was magical with lights everywhere at night, lighting 4th paths and each individual cabin/room. But aside from the women who cleaned the rooms and one lady on reception, the staff seemed to be annoyed when you even said hello to them. They literally were ALL on their phones the entire time. Or chatting loudly to each other and if you interrupted you were lucky to get a reply but don't hold out for a smile. Honestly, I've never experienced such a warm, beautiful hotel with such unhappy staff. As I said, there were a few exceptions, one woman on reception was lovely, sadly she only appeared on the last day, and the housekeeping staff were delightful and so hard working. I assume it's the person in charge setting the standard here as even the waiting staff were rude, not even just unfriendly, but rude. It's SUCH a shame as the hotel was great.

I was here for work for a few days. The room was OK but it was a shame that there was no view from the outside seating area. A few simple touches, like providing flip flops and proper towels in the bathroom, would have made it more comfortable. Food was good but a bit pricey for Tanzania. Fantastic view from the restaurant and bar area and innovative use of old dhows for wine racks and counters.

Based on short stay late 22. Reception staff very friendly. Staff in other areas more mixed and sometimes less friendly/felt like we were being monitored not welcomed! Bed was nice but room felt a bit cramped and dark - limited daylight due to large dark patio area outside the window and net curtains that were both dark and fairly ineffective for privacy . Tap water is salty and only option for filling the kettle. Only a small bottle of water provided each day and restaurant water very expensive (huge markup on shop prices). It would also be more environmentally friendly to have large water coolers where guests could refill bottles. Nice to have trees and birds around, better if there were seating areas in the garden and a written guide or someone on the staff to help identify the birds. Breakfast OK but would be good to have better bread (eg nice wholemeal rolls) and more variation plus healthier options for the hot food. Pool is nice in that it's by the sea, but very shallow for swimming and felt like a lot of chlorine - skin uncomfortable afterwards. Cleaning lady was nice and helpful, and I'd repeat the comment on how nice the reception staff were.

Up to this time we are discussing on what to add in variety of breakfast. We look forward to have you back again. Asante sana na karibu tena!

Room was spacious and the Bed was big enough. Internet was fast and free plus the breakfast even though not much variety, it was served next to the sea which was a quite a bonus.
They need to improve in responding timely to their customer care line, the AC isn't cool enough given the fact that Dar is hot, water was salty with low pressure to effectively shower, the TV remote was broken and didn't have a replacement even after the room service attended to it, the kettle wasn't working and cups nor glasses were placed in the room. Otherwise it is a nice place

I was recommended to stay at Mediterraneo by a Kenyan business associate who goes there for some rest & relaxation from time-to-time. It was a gem. I stayed in the smallest possible room, as I find when travelling I only use my room to sleep - the rest of the time I'm out, or working / reading / relaxing in the lounge. And there's a wonderful pool right next to the lounge, which together with the dining areas all face directly onto the swimmable sea.

Dear Vishal, the rooms are all equipped with AC in the bedroom. You should be able to find vegetarian options on the menu since they serve entrances like hummus and Italian food such as pizza.
It can take anywhere from 20-1hr depending on traffic
not sure you would have to contact the hotel for that
can't find their email address -but here is their phone numbers
Mediterraneo Hotel & Restaurant. Tel: + 255 754 812567, Mobile: + 255 777 812569
The Hotel Mediterranean cuisine is excellent, based on Italian cuisine (Lady owner is Italian, and also cuisine chef), so no peanuts or other are used to prepare dishes, and shellfish only if you order it. So perfectly safe and very high quality, nothing to do with tasteless South African food.
