The location of the Dar es Salaam Serena Hotel is great and the food is also good. The Pillows are nice and provide good support. A majority of your staff were pleasant and Elia (a Manager) was excellent! People can make a huge difference and Elia made a difference to my stay. I highly recommend a visit and stay at the Dar es Salaam Serena Hotel.

The hotel is wonderful but the following actions need to be taken by senior management in order to restore the hotel status from 4 star to 5-star: 1. Replace the salt and pepper pots in the main restaurant. Most of the existing pots do not function. 2. Ensure that all the staff in the main restaurant smile. 2 of the staff never smile. This breaches the hospitality mandate. 3. Provide more training to some of the reception staff. The current level of training is inadequate to meet needs of guests and provides a poor image to them. 4. Improve the quality of food in Jahazi restaurant. The current quality is too low.

Breakfast buffet Walk In We where pleasantly surprised by the buffet ! The outside seating area was truly relaxing and super beautiful manicured garden !! Only minus was the surprising lack of pastries ! Although the savory side was very good with fresh made omelettes and 8 chafing dishes full of interesting ideas unfortunately the pastry side was lacking !

The last time I travelled for internationally for business was in 2020. I was not sure I would remember how to maneuver around airports. We were set up a Dar es Salaam Serena. I wasn’t expecting to see this. My expectations were not high as my previous visit at previous hotel were quite lackluster. Serena was serene. From the lobby to the rooms, it was worth. The staff were all working as though coordinated. Very friendly and inviting. This is the first time where I had housekeeping coming to check if I needed anything. I was indeed amazed. The food is sumptuous. Tanzanians are known for making great food. The first time I arrived, I was served a double portion. I looked like I had not eaten in ages. I ate to my full and stretched myself away. The consistency and the variety of meals was also quite well organized. You will find yourself eating a lot, well I did. The gym is very inviting. It has everything you can think of to pump up that heart rate for a long workday. They also have bottomless apples for you to snack on. The rooms are spotless, with clean white linen. They are big enough and well arranged for meetings. The bathroom is clean, but it was small. There was a bath. I am not a fan of bathtubs, but the shower water was sufficient, absolutely the right temperature to make you forget the small bathroom. The pillows are so fluffy they make you forget you are on business not holiday. The ambience was inviting, after a long day work, you walk back in and relax. Thematic nights, amazing that they have on weekdays. I thought people leave the office and go rest. No, they have lives and a nightlife for that matter. They had Bongo on Monday night but did not get a chance to savour it. If you have sometime, take a walk from the hotel to the Tanzanite bridge. The morning walk is surreal and the ocean views therapeutic. Dar es Salaam Serena, I will be coming back.

Old hotel that has seen no upgrading or investment in a couple of decades. Rooms are damp and musty with broken lights, wardrobe doors, furniture etc. Executive Lounge is far from being Executive. It’s a couple of old rooms pushed together with some tired, dirty old chairs and sofas. Trying to get a straight answer on what drinks and snacks are available and/or included in the ‘Executive’ package is impossible…as the staff either don’t know or won’t say. The staff do try hard - but it must be depressing working in such a decrepit, failing hotel. Having stayed at the Serena in Nairobi, Kampala and Kigali - which are all great - it’s odd that this Serena is such a failed property. The General Manager - Edwin Chemisto makes me laugh…what’s the point of pretending you’ve taken guest comments on board when you have no intention of doing anything. Aa a GM he should have some pride and tell Serena Group to either refurbish the hotel or resign if they refuse.

Fantastic ambience, spotless linen, towels and rooms. Variety of very tasty meals, extremely courteous and professional staff who looked happy and quite motivated. Special thanks to Chef Ali who made my weaning journey of my infant very easy miles away from home, and Celina for always being at our service and constantly checking if we were okay. House keeping did a wonderful job daily and the evening turn down was really special, giving one a peaceful night. Great leadership, teamwork and motivation by GM Edwin Chemisto. Will definitely be back SOON.
